Summary: Great Modem * * * * *
Review: I ordered this modem after reading all the great reviews and thought I would add my two cents. The modem is a breez to set up! I did have to call the At&t and run through a simple process but it worked great after that. They did hit me with a modem swap charge of 9.99 which figures. The modem appears to be even faster than my Surfboard modem from At&t. FYI: It does have a large AC/DC converter plug in case you are short plug space. All in all a great buy for the $$ and fully At&t/Excite compatible!!

Summary: Highly Recommend
Review: The Best Data CMX-110 cable modem is the best value available if you decide to own rather than rent a modem. It worked perfectly the first time it was connected to my AT&T internet broadband service with speed that exceeded my expectations. With a price of $84 after the rebate, it will pay for itself in just over 8 months. Set-up is a "no-brainer".

Summary: couldn't be easier
Review: I was sort of dreading getting a new modem to replace the one leased from AT&T Broadband. You know how every new thing for a PC takes a day or two out of your life to get it set up? Not with this! AT&T support had me up and running in less than 20 minutes. (The support guy said his record for Best Data modems is 8.5 minutes, but I held him up because I hadn't even unpacked it, yet.)

Seems to run faster than the 3COM I had before, but I don't really have an objective way to measure that.

Summary: Better cable modems are available
Review: In brief, I bought the modem and it worked ok for about a month. After that period, I began having intermittent connection failures, lasting a few seconds to a few minutes at a time. After my ISP checked out their end, they sent a tech to replace the BestData modem with a Motorola Surfboard 4100. I've had no problems since, and it's been a number of months now.

Note that they replaced my modem at their own cost. I've my own suspicions about what this might mean, particularly since they recommended the model.

Summary: Better Than Paying AT&T
Review: Thought I'd get rid of the $10 monthly charge from ATTBI and this modem worked great (though it did take ATTBI awhile to get things switched in their system due to poor tech support). I swear the speed jumped up a bit, but I could be imagining things. It is fully compatable with ATTBI in the Portland, OR area and is at a great price.

Summary: Terrific modem ... fast, with easy installation
Review: This modem worked beautifully, right out of the box. Much faster than the 3Com modem I was renting from @Home. Dropped off the old modem, gave them the new MAC Code and Serial Number from the Best Data Modem. Came home, plugged it in, and it worked the first time. Superior speed.

Summary: Easy replacement for leased AT&T 3Com modem in St Paul, MN
Review: I had been looking for a cheap replacement so I could save the $10 per month lease from AT&T. I had my doubts that it would work after reading some of the reviews for this and other brands of cable modem. But I was able to swap it with no problems what so ever. One thing I will note is that the setup software tells you to look for the 'cable ready' LED to be lite. Make sure you give the unit some time to communicate with the cable company. That cable LED will not come on right away like the power and LAN will. The instructions should have noted that possible delay.
After I hooked it up I checked dslreports.com and got a 1.6Mps connection when in the pass I never got close to 1Mps. That may be coincidental but regardless, I'm happy!

Summary: Not Compatible with the Knology Service
Review: This modem will not work with the Knology Service in Panama City, FL. even though both Best Data and Knology claim DOCSIS 1.0 compatibility. I suspect it will not work with any Knology Service (located in the Southeast), so beware! I had to return my unit for a refund.

Summary: Great Modem Value
Review: Just purchased this modem after reading the other reviews. I was tired of paying the cable company $10 a month to rent their cable modems. The setup could not have been easier, truly plug and play. My only complaint is that the unit does not have an on/off switch. If you never turn it off, then no problem. Great value for the money and the footprint is small on your desktop.

Summary: Great modem for a GREAT price!
Review: Cable Modems are basically a commodity item now that the DOCSIS standard has completely consumed the known broadband world; so, I can't say this modem has any special features that you wouldn't find in any of the other 100 models of DOCSIS cable modems. But I *can* say that this is absolutely the best value you'll find on the market today. It is fast, accurate, and simple to install. The CD that accompanies is has a very useful HTML-based troubleshooting guide that helps you understand any problems you may be having with your installation.

The only problem I had was that after installation the modem could not acquire block sync. with my cable provider's network (the "CABLE" light kept blinking slowly rather than staying lit). After several hours of work with my ISP's technical team, and even a visit from the cable company, I was still unable to get it to work. I had it packed up and ready to send back to Amazon when someone from my ISP call me to let me know that they had figured out what was wrong. It turns out that there is a RESET SWITCH inside the modem, which must be activated after power is applied and the self test is complete. After activating the reset switch, the coax cable can be attached and block sync. will be acquired immediately. I tried it and it worked perfectly the first time.

The gotcha is that the reset switch must be activated by pushing an unbend paperclip into the center of the coax connector on the back of the modem, where the "stinger" portion of the coax cable would go. Once inserted, just keep pushing in until you feel it "click" and that is the reset switch. I wouldn't have believed it unless I had done it myself to get it to work.

Overall, this is a great cable modem. I've been using it for about a week now and am loving the speed and reliability!
