Summary: If you are using ATTBI.COM do not buy!!
Review: This modem is on DOCSIS 1.0 and ATTBI.COM is on DOCSIS 1.1. If you use this modem with ATTBI you will only get about 10% of your bandwith. Im trying to get the firmware upgraded on this but Im getting the run around between ATTBI and 3com

Summary: 3COM CR29220 Cable Modem
Review: This modem was very inexpensive compared to other cable modems. I tested 3 different brands ... and this 3COM gave me the best throughput. The modem is a bit larger than other comprable brands of cable modems, and it does not easily stand upright on its own like other brands of Cable Modems, it is designed to sit flat, presumably to stack with network hubs. I plugged it in, and it took 5minutes to warm up, but I had no problems connecting it to COX COMMUNICATIONS ROADRUNNER in Fairfax County, Va. This modem is a plug and chug solution at a good price after rebate offer.

Summary: This modem works fine - but 3com support is terrible!
Review: This modem works well with southwest COX.NET! Plugged it in and voila - no problems. If you have any technical questions that go beyond basic, the 3com website and documentation is too general and the phone support is terrible with high wait times.
I would recommend the modem, just don't expect any support from 3com!

Summary: Worked right out of the box
Review: This was one of the best deals I had lately. The 3Com OfficeConnect Cable Modem worked right away after I switched it on. No software installation was needed. I was using a Surfboard 4100 from ATTBI in Chicago far north suburb (Palatine). It took about 5 minutes for the modem to sync. The internet connection was up right after that. However, I had to call ATTBI product support to register the new cable modem with them. Otherwise, it would not work anymore after a few hours - I suppose ATTBI has a timelimit set for a new modem to register. The registration was down on a special web page: http://sas.r5.attbi.com. It requires your ATTBI account number and a certain registration number (more like a password). Best is to get a ATTBI tech support person online with you. The styling of the 3Com cable modem is not impressive. I wish it had the Standby button as on the Surfboard 4100. Overall, it worked right away and no hussle.

Summary: Cable Modem Delight
Review: This was one of the easiest modems to hook up! And the speed is quite fast. No Latency prepared to d-links cable modem. Runs very cool as well.

Summary: No probs here with ATTBI in Pittsburgh
Review: Well, picked up my modem today. Plugged it in and was searching for my customer papers. I even went and got my headset phone ready to settle in for a long haul. But as I had just navigated the phone menu to get a rep, my modem status went green with activity. I was able to ping, surf, whatever. Even checked my bandwidth with a 2-wire check and it came back at 141k. Told the girl on the phone that it provisioned itself and gave her the MAC address anyway just in case they realize that the modem was provisioned and allowed on the network without them even allowing it in their BOOTP tables. :) Total time from plugging in to on the net, approx 15 minutes.

Happy customer here in Pittsburgh with ATTBI. Definate good deal.

Summary: Important thing to know...
Review: While looking for a cable modem to replace the one I currently rent I saw this inexpensive model and decided to investigate. It may be an excellent cable modem but according to the 3Com website: "This model is not compatible with the @Home cable setup." Since I have excite@home I could not use this modem. Just wanted to let others know.
