Summary: Simply the best "residential" cablemodem out there!!
Review: I was currently using the 3Com "Sharkfin" modem until my ISP said they would no longer be supporting it, so I did some reviewing of cable modems online and since I already have a linksys router and NIC I said what the hell, Ill try this cable modem even tho its pretty new to the market. Boy am I suprised at the simplicity, speed DEFINITLEY the SPEED of this modem. I am rated and paying for 1.5mbits and I currently am constant at 3.5mbits almost 4. This is outstanding. The COX techs were really suprised at this modems capabilities as well. GIVE IT A TRY YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!. A+ 5 stars whatever GET IT!

Summary: works with cox.net NW Florida - fast setup
Review: Got tired of paying cox $15 a month for cable modem rental. Bought this, plugged it in, and it worked! Didn't even have to install any software. Using it with Windows XP and a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL router. Didn't have to call cable company with new MAC address either. Probably not this easy for some cable internet configurations, but for mine it was a snap!

Summary: Works fine with attbi.com
Review: Works fine. plug & play. both ethernet and usb.
works perfect with SMC barricade
I'm impressed how I didn't have to mess with a single thing:
it all worked. Period.
(p.s. to the XP problem: if you're using the ethernet, it could NOT possibly interfere with XP [MS trash])

Summary: Literally plug it in, call your provider and reboot...
Review: I finally took the step and bought this Linksys modem (I've always liked Linksys). I LITERALLY unplugged my rented modem, plugged this one in and called COX to update the MAC address in their system. Took a whole 5 minutes! Since I didn't need to connect via the USB I didn't have to install anything. COX said it could take up to an hour to begin working, but it was up in a few minutes. Very nice! I highly recommend this to anyone using a cable connection who thinks they will be using it for more than 10 months.

Summary: WARNING -- Major issues with BEFCMU 10 and Windows XP
Review: After purchasing this modem I started to have an annoying problem where my PC would spotaneously restart in the middle of working on the internet. I contacted Linksys technical support, and they refused to admit that the problem traced to their product. After spending many hours with the Microsoft technical support help desk, we definitively isolated that problem to BEFCMU10.sys -- the software that came with this modem.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MODEM IF YOU PLAN TO RUN WINDOWS XP OR UPGRADE TO IT AT A LATER DATE.

Summary: ' Cable LED ' confused the Cable Guy
Review: After some confusion on the 'Cable LED', the product is working great. The Cable Guy, misinterpreted the meaning of the Cable LED on the front of the Modem. On the modems they try to get you to buy, the Cable LED is an indication that the Modem has sync'ed up to the cable connection. On the Linksys, the Cable LED is more of an Tx/Rx Activity Indicator -- the Status LED indicates Cable Connectivety. After calling in for help six times, the Cable Guy tried to get me to toss the Linksys Modem and buy their Modem. I resorted to opening the manual and convinced him that the Modem was fine and working. He agreed.

I would rate the Modem a 5, but Linksys should probably rethink the 'Status' and 'Cable' LEDs since these didn't seem to be the standard -- according to the Cable Guy.

Summary: Works great with attbi.com cable service
Review: I purchased BEFCMU10 and activated it with att broadband service. It worked out of the box. It supports both ethernet and usb ports (the respective cables are included). I have mine hooked up to a linksys dsl/cable router directly. The linksys cable modem seems faster than the one i had leased from ATT.

Note, the cable light on this modem does not stay lit. it will come on only when data is being transferred on the cable medium unlike my earlier modem. so keep this in mind.

speeds supported by this modem are 42.88mbs downstream and 10.24mbs upstream. This is a DOCSIS 1.0/1/1 compliant modem says it right on box. Works great with attbi.com service.

Summary: Linksys Cable Modem (BEFCMU10) with Linksys Router (BEFSR41)
Review: I get my cable modem service through ATT broadband. I have my home networked using a Linksys router, which I consider to be an excellent product. I'd been monitoring the price of cable modems and when I saw the Linksys cable modem for less than $100 (with rebate), I decided to make the purchase and save $10 a month from ATT. The installation couldn't have been easier. I powered down the PC, removed the RCA CM and connected the new Linksys. I powered up, started my browser (IE) and was immediately redirected to an ATT website which asked me for my account number and registration number (last 9 numbers of the account number). I entered them and was forwarded to a page to register the Linksys CM's MAC address, which was automatically placed into the box. I clicked OK and, voila! Done! The next day I returned the leased RCA CM to my local ATT center and they (I hope) adjusted my monthly bill. ATT said they would pick up my CM but that carried a $49 charge.

Prior to the purchase, I called the ATT support center. This proved to be an absolute waste of time. I was on hold for 20 minutes and then the rep was not very helpful. So I started a chat session with another ATT rep and got the exact information I needed. And it worked just as she said it would. And, I was immediately connected to a rep as opposed to the telephone call where I was placed on hold. My advice - skip the phone call - start a chat session instead. More advice - you CANNOT go wrong with Linksys!

Summary: quick and easy
Review: I have ATT Broadband and after unpacking and setting up the modem, I called ATT and gave them the MAC address and it was up and running. So far, the modem works well and it will pay for itself with the lease fees I will save.
