Summary: Drops connection from time to time w. WinME?
Review: (Updated/revised 2/24/2004). I bought this product for use at home with the Linksys WRT54G wireless AP/router, and for use on the road with various hotspots. The installation and configuration were very easy, and at home I get close to 100% signal strength (albeit its only going through a single wall). I had no problem configuring the two devices to match and interface.

Plugged into a WinME PC, the connection drops frequently, and it requires a reboot of the PC to restore it (even with the latest firmware and drivers on the WUSB12, the WRT54G, and WinME). Killing and restarting the WUSB12 utility on the PC doesn't reconnect, nor does unplugging/replugging the WUSB12, it seems to require a PC reboot, hence I suspect the problem is with WinME or perhaps that PC's USB support.

Plugged into a Win2K laptop, and used with various hotspots (Borders, Starbucks, Kinkos, Holiday Inn), the product however works great, no lost connections unlike above. Its a very nice package and form factor for carrying in the laptop bag, although signal strength in those locations is usually a little poor.

The WUSB12 seems to run quite hot, I'm surprised it gets as warm as it does, almost uncomfortable to hold in your hand, not that you normally would ....

Summary: Painless and quick
Review: Absolutely painless install on my TiVo. The TiVo box even detected that this adaptor needed a firmware upgrade and then did the upgrade for me. Took less than 5 minutes to install and works great!

Summary: Couldn't get it to work and neither could Linksys
Review: Another waste of time beta testing hardware. Tried this on a Sony laptop running Win2K. Software installed without a problem then the WUSB12 installed without a problem. Unfortunately, the software doesn't recognize the adapter and the adapter can't be configured to work without it. Linksys tech support was clueless so it back it went. Next...

Review: Bought this device to connect Tivo and my Apple Airport and it works wonderfully. Installation took about 15 minutes and there were no complications. True plug and play.

Summary: Execellent
Review: I bought a new Gateway desktop computer. I already have linksys wireless router. With WUSB12, my new computer connected to the internet easily. Takes me less than 5 minutes to install. Excellent product. I will buy more from linksys.

Summary: Got a bad one....
Review: I bought this adapter to work with other Linksys wireless products. The range is much worse than the WUSB11, love that product. I tried installing it on Windows 2000 and worked with support for near 2 hours and they still could not get it to see the Internet. It could ping the router and the DNS server but could not ping yahoo.com nor see the internet. The support people were not very polite nor customer oriented on this one, I called at midnight on sunday so maybe that had something to do with it.

My experience with Linksys support suggests that they will want to blame the hardware as fast as possible. This is good for customers and returns but horrible for the company. I really like my networks that I used Linksys for but I would prefer better support and website driver download.

Summary: Wirless USB for Tivo2
Review: I bought this little guy to use with a Tivo2. Plugged it in and it was recognized right away. Very small form factor, and "cool" design. I notice I get only mid-level reception using it - but I attribute that to the placement of the device (on the floor in a closed TV stand)

Summary: TiVo loves it!
Review: I bought this specifically to connect my TiVo to my wirless LAN. Worked like a charm. Plugged it it. TiVo recognized it. Upgraded the firmware. Found the network and runs like a charm.

Summary: Totally sweet!
Review: I have a wired & wireless 802.11b Linksys network, which has been working well for some time (and now works even better since the addition of a Linksys Wireless Signal Booster).
Recently I became a Beta tester for Tivo's new home network (which I'll review +++ once the NDA expires), so my Tivo-2 needed to access the network via its now-active USB ports. I bought this WUSB12, took it out of the box, plugged it into the Tivo, and I was done. Turning on the Tivo, I went to setup and found it had already recognized the network. I selected the network as my connection choice, it tested the connection and then executed an entire day's download in about 15 seconds. Wow.
The device itself is slick, looking like some kind of big Sharpie. Sliding off the pen-clip cover exposes the business end of this USB device, and also allows access to the release button for the little antenna. There are 2 lights in the base, one for power and one for link detection. The package includes a little USB cable (if you need one) and a lanyard to carry this thing around your neck (not me). I did install the software, which was painless and in my case (network is not password protected) not really necessary. I predict this is going to be a very successful product as more and more wireless networks are deployed in public places like schools, libraries, malls and coffee houses.
