Summary: Linksys PS2KVM Switch KIT
Review: I purchased this item to free up space on my desk and words can't express the ease of installation. (Were it not for my weak knees and bad back, I could have completed the installation and move of equipment in less than 2 minutes.) Removal of the monitor, keyboard and mouse has given enough space to actually work at my desk. The switch comes with built in hotkeys that make it extremely easy to switch between my two systems.

Summary: Exactly as advertised.
Review: The Linksys PS2KVMSK ProConnect 2-Port Compact KVM Switch Kit is without a doubt the best value on the market today.

I'm studying for a Red Hat certification and I have 3 computers networked together. Two of them (a Red Hat machine and a Win98 machine) are used extensively on a daily basis. Space constraints in my home office had been forcing me to wiggle under the desk and swap out cables each time I changed Samba parameters or added/removed users. With the purchase of this KVM those problems are over.

One reviewer mentioned that some games use the control key and two presses active the switch. Well, we need to remember that most action games allow you to re-map key bindings.

At this price, with all of the required cabling included, there is no better value today.

Summary: Short on space
Review: If you have as many computers as I do , you will love this item as well as a four port KVM switch offered by Linksys. You can use one minor to run 2, 4 four more computers and save a ton space in your house . I use this to run 2 computers with a limited desktop area . I use the 4 port for a file server , laptop and two other PC's . It works great . Check it out for yourself .

Summary: Poor craftsmanship but good idea
Review: The button on the unit gave me problems from the very beginning. Had to punch it several times to make a switch. Now it doesn't work at all. So, I have to use the unreliable method of hitting the ctrl key twice. It simply doesn't work all the time. I've had this about 1 1/2 months and already need to get it replaced .... Too bad, though. Nice to be able to eliminate the input devices for mulitple computers.

Summary: Quality control is needed for the Compact KVM kit
Review: Having read other Amazon reviews for the PS2KVMSK Linksys switch kit, I decided to take my chances and buy one. I hook up a Win2K thinkpad (via docking station) and a Unix machine, and things almost worked. The problem is not with the cables, but with the main module: it does not have a good internal connection for the mouse between the Console and the PC#2. (I did a lot of analysis to pinpoint this.)

Since it is not worth my while to get the mouse problem fixed (shipping things back and forth is a real hassle), I will simply use two mouse.

Summary: The one I got didn't work!
Review: Despite several attempts and cable changes I was unable to get the video portion of mine to work and am sending it back to Amazon as soon as possible for a refund. Perhaps I got a bad one. I do know however, that I did everything to get it to work, including changing cables.

They bost that it supports 1920 x 1440 resolutions (at 85hz). My display adapter is set at 1600 x 1200 and it didn't work. I dropped the resolution setting down to 640 x 480 and that didn't work either. I tried several different refresh rates... and even changed the cables (all shielded cables were used)... still no video! The kayboard and mouse switching however, worked fine.

With regards to the switching process though, I have one problem!
To switch between monitors, you either press the button on the front of the unit, or press the CTRL key. Sounds good in theory.

However, there is no way to disable the CTRL key option, nor can you assign it to another key. Now, I would image that if you're a gamer and you need to slap the CTRL key a lot to blast some alien or something... then this is going to drive you mad! Same thing if you use CTRL to toggle features withing programmes, like photoshop perhaps.

I like the compact design, although Linksys could have provided longer cables (the 4' cables are a little short). I am hoping that this particular one is just bad... so I plan to order another one.

Summary: incompatible with linux
Review: This KVM switch doesn't work with linux -- beware. There's nothing to indicate this in the literature. Other non-M$ users (e.g. mac) might also be affected.

Summary: Very good product, if just it reliable....
Review: Got this for one month. Has Win2k server & Linux connected. Suddenly the mouse started to shaking for the linux box. After switching the cable, find out that one of the KVM cable has the problem.

Summary: Worked great for about 30 minutes
Review: What a piece of junk. I've had to return two of them and that was an absolute nightmare. Linksys' customer support is the worst! I'm not kidding. I waited 2 days for a call back, then the technician did nothing but insult me. When I finally got the replacement, it didn't work either. They finally sent me a working unit (I have about 3 weeks invested in this now) and it is all scratched up, obviously used. Oh well, at least it works.

Summary: Good deal for the price...but there's still ghosting!
Review: This is a great deal for what comes in the package...since cables are included. Also since this switch allows you to boot without having the switch selecting the computer that's booting.

But much to my disappointment I have a little ghosting at 1280x1024x85Hz. Doesn't seem to improve at 75Hz. The specs say that this thing can run fine at 1920x1440x85Hz. Maybe the cables that came with it are just [not very good] and I need to get better cables to make the ghosting go away.

But the switch works fine with my cordless mouse and AT keyboard through an AT-PS2 adapter. My computer doesn't think I'm using a cordless mouse anymore...it detected it as some other mouse...but all the buttons still work so I don't care.

I don't seem to notice a lag when I hit the CTRL key...maybe I need to use the switch more and play games. But I like the idea of being able to switch computers using the keyboard instead of having to reach for the button on the switch (and yes there is a button you can use to switch computers, even though I've seen no mention of it on this site).

So even though there's a little ghosting I don't want to spend a lot more money for a better switch. And the ghosting isn't all that bad...
