Rating: Summary: Excellent product but Amazon sent me a broken piece Review: I recently bought this KVM kit. It is really good and for this price, you can not get a better deal. The only lowdown is that even though the unit arrived in excellent packing condition and a new box well sealed, the switch to flip between two computers (heart of the system) does not work !! I was going to return it but there is an alternate way to use the [Ctrl] key twice on the keyboard. That was the only reason I did not return the product. ... But if the swtich in yours works, this is a very sweet deal. GET IT NOW.
Rating: Summary: Nice Review: I have been very pleased with this product. The included cables made it very convenient, and I was up and running within minutes. I use it to switch between two home computers. The only drawback is that the keyboard switch (two consecutive control key presses) cannot be modified, and occasionally this is inconvenient. I'd give it a 4.5 if I could.
Rating: Summary: Perfect for PC home users Review: I use this switch with a 21" monitor, Microsoft Office Keyboard, and Microsoft Intellipoint mouse on one computer running Windows 2000 and another running Win98 and Red Hat 7.1. It has been running perfectly without losing any of the advanced features that the Microsoft peripherals offer on the Microsoft operating systems. The inputs and outputs for the switch are all PS/2. I had to use USB to PS/2 adapters for both the keyboard and mouse to connect to the switch and they barely fit with the monitor plugged in (real estate is pretty tight on the unit). The kit also comes with two 4' cables, which are short; you'll almost HAVE to put your CPUs side by side in order to use it. Installation is easy: just plug your peripherals into the switch, then run the cables to their respective units and you are up and running; no additional software installation is required. Toggling between the two units is easy as well. Since the cables are short chances are the switch itself will have to be in an inconvenient location (like under your desk if you have two tower systems on the floor), so although there is a button on the front of the unit to activate the switch you'll probably use the hot key (left CTRL x 2 OR right CTRL x 2) more often than the hardware. This isn't the best choice of keys, but less of a killer for gamers than one may think (although the right CTRL key was used quite often as a "Fire" button in the days of "Doom", most first person shooter gamers use the left mouse button now). Nonetheless, if you are a hard core gamer it may be best to look elsewhere, as game developers often use the CTRL key in some capacity. Overall, a great buy (I've seen other switches without cables that run for almost twice as much as this kit), and perfect for home users.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't pass extra mouse buttons! Review: BEWARE: This KVM doesn't pass the roll-up, roll-down and the thumb button on a Logitech MouseMan+ through to the computers. I would assume it has problems with the new Microsoft roller mice too. If you don't need these, it's a nice box, but if you EVER need them, you'll keep cursing it until you replace it.
Rating: Summary: Great buy - no ghosting etc issues here Review: Originally I was discouraged from buying this product based on some of the reviews here, but decided to chance it. The product works very well. I am running at 1280 x 1024 and have no noticable signal degradation. I ran Serious Sam and it looks just as good as ever. To be fair - I do have a very good flat pannel display from IBM - so maybe it's a little less sensitive to signal degradation. The CTRL hot switching is very convenient, but I can see it causing issues if you use that key for rapid fire in games. It looks like the sensitivity is at the 1 second threshhold, so you should be OK for most other tasks. One other feature that I really like about this unit is that it draws its power from the keyboard connector - so it's not neccessary to sacrifice yet another plug on my power strip.
Rating: Summary: Very good product simple and efficent. Review: Easy to setup. Works as indicated . The good part is that the cables are also included. The switch between two computers can be done by pressing the CTRL key twice. There is also a manual switch on the device. Sleek and good looking.
Rating: Summary: Nice KVM for the price Review: Switching between Windows XP and RedHat Linux and it works well and is easy via a buttong on the unit or by double 'ctrl' clicks. I also use a 17" flat panet LCD monitor and the video quality is very good. The only thing I don't like about the unit is that the cables for the 2 pc's are on the sides of the unit. If it were a bit bigger and all the connectors on the rear... I would have rated 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Great little kit!!! Review: This is a great little kit for running 2 PCs at home or the office and trying to save space. The only two strikes against it that I have, (1) is the cables are a little short at 3' and (2) I wish all the cable connections (where they plug into the switch) were on the back instead of 3 of the 4 sides. Neither of these make me regret purchasing it, I still think its a great little kit for the price, but more of a wish list for the next version of it. These two things are the only reason I didn't give it a 5.
Rating: Summary: Much Better Than Expected Review: I read many reviews on this product. Concerns were raised over compatibility with Linux and mice with rollers. I am using this product with both and it works great. Its ease of use and low price make this a best buy.
Rating: Summary: Good entry level KVM Review: Purchased this a couple of days ago to manage my two servers. Have it attached to Logitech mouse and MS Natural keyboard w/15" Flat Panel LCD. Small foot print and inexpensive. I have seen complaints about the CTRL button being used to switch between systems, but since I don't use that button, I have no problem. This product works great so far. Will definetly purchase the four port.
