Summary: oh yes this is the real deal
Review: Some folks have cried foul that this product doesn't work properly...well i am here to say not only does it work fantastic straight out of the box for the $$ you will never EVER find something better. It took all of 5 minutes to connect. Then as a bonus you even get all the required cables to do the job. Yes buying the cables seperate is more [costly] then this kit. .... Linksys makes usually real good stuff for the money. This product is a great example of that. Also of interest to some people I am using this KVM on 2 older systems WIN98SE networked in house (on a seperate switch) then routed (another box)out via cable modem to the internet. One of the systems keyboards connection has an AT/ps2 converter on it from the box to the switch. Even though Linksys claims this "isn't supported" i am here to tell ya it worked just fine first time. This WILL NEVER work properly however with a serial port mouse unless you take the time to "work around it"(its all about the pins) The hot keys are good for a fast switch between machines. I usually game on one machine and do serious internet downloading surfing on the other. What else can I say but way to go fellas this Linksys PS2KVMSK ProConnect 2-Port Compact KVM Switch Kit is the business and an exceptional value.

Summary: Works great!
Review: This is a great product, at a great price! Keep in mind that it is only a 2-port switch, and that it is only for PS/2 connections. If this is what you need, this switch is great! Keyboard hotkeys work great, and I have had no problems with it. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a simple 2-port KVM solution!

Summary: Great Product for the price!
Review: I purchased my Linksys KVM switch quite a while ago (1 year plus) and have never experienced any problems. One port, I use for my main Windows 2000 pc while the other port is used for setting up new pc's on various OSes (W2K, WXP, W98SE, WinMe, Linux). I'm happy to say that through continuous use (plugging and unplugging), this is still working like a champ. When I purchased mine, it was double the cost of what you could get now so this is an excellent price! If you do a search for the KVM cables, you'll see that they easily run close to [$] each!

Summary: Good deal. Good price and performance, with minor flaw
Review: The switch worked as promised. It worked well. Only complaint is not being able to change the hotkey from <cntrl>,<cntrl>. Also note that if you have a serial mouse, the serial -> ps2 adapter will not work. There is a workaround, but I didn't do it.

Summary: Works like a charm.
Review: Bought this KVM to switch between both my computers at work to save desktop space. I also use the MS Office keyboard w/ the onboard mouse so I was concerned at first, but have had no problems. The hotkey is also a great feature. With the supplied cables and the low cost, this a great buy.

Summary: Not for MS Office Keyboard owners
Review: I had this on 2 computers (in another room) with a regular keyboard, and it was working great. I purchased another computer to use with my current computer (one for gaming, one for productivity), and borrowed it from the other room. It wouldn't work with my MS Office Keyboard (the one with the scroll wheel on the left side). The keys would repeat at erratic rates, and gameplay was near impossible.

I purchased the IOGEAR GCS82A (ASIN B0000683E8), and it works great. It's a little more sturdy feeling also (metal instead of plastic). One other major plus for the IOGEAR model is that the cables all go out of the back, except for the actual mouse and keyboard which are in the front. This Linksys has the cable going out 3 sides, and it takes up A LOT of space compared to IOGEAR.

Summary: Doesn't work with IBM Thinkpad
Review: I'd like to quote the manual for this product for the benefit of anyone considering this product:
"Some notebooks, namely the IBM Thinkpad and some Toshiba models, will cause problems when used with the KVM switch."

It would've been really nice to know this up front, since I intended to use this product for the sole purpose of hooking up my desktop and Thinkpad to this switch. It works fine on the desktop, but the just freezes on the Thinkpad.

I'd also like to quote technical support, who I hoped had a workaround: "Yeah, we have a lot of problems with using laptops and with this switch in general, there's really no workaround for it."

I think that this should be clearly stated up front, and the fact that it's not lowers my image of Linksys products on the whole.

Summary: Our office has had problems with this model
Review: We use many KVM switches in our offices. This specific model has created a big problem for our users and IT support staff. The KVM often fails when the computer is switched on, leaving the user without a keyboard and mouse. The first time this happened we thought it was simply a defective KVM or cable. However, we have since experienced the same problem with many other units of the same model. The only solution we've found is to keep rebooting the computer until it finally "sees" the keyboard and mouse. It is clearly a design flaw of some kind, though the severity of the problem does vary from unit to unit. This KVM does, however, work great once it gets going. Yet, I still wouldn't recommend this KVM to you based on our experience. -RW

Summary: Useful Gadget
Review: Ordered the Linksys KVM with some trepidation since the reviews were not all great. After using it for a couple of weeks, I have to admit it was a great investment.

It was easy to install the KVM, took me less than 10 mins to hook up both boxes. The wires are a little short but it was a relief to find them included with the switch. Made it that much easier to setup. To switch between the two computers I use the hotkey, and it works like a charm.

One of the issues reported was a problem with the wheel mouse; I am glad that didn't hold true. I use a Microsoft Intellipoint Explorer mouse with 5 buttons (back and forward), and I am addicted to it. I was definitely going to return the Linksys if I couldn't get the mouse to work. Interestingly the problem never arose with either machine. I run Win NT on one and Windows 2000 on the other.

Definitely recommend this switch for someone who wants a cheap and hassle free solution to reducing desktop clutter.

Summary: Great product just like the linksys Router
Review: Great price (the cheapest on Amazon.com) and great product. I was sharing a monitor and two computers within a minute of receiving the switch!
