Rating: Summary: Easy Access Review: I got this for the office after using the linksys at home, the idea of a router was fixed in my head. The print server and the serial port were almost necessities for the office environment. It was a fairly easy installation hardware wise, of course. the Software had a few issues but upgrades from their web site and a quick call fixed them, I found tech support to be helpful and patient. Theproblem involved needing to do a hard reset of the router, which is a pain, use a paperclip and jump two of the pins on the serial port. I could not believe that this was their answer, but it worked. Since then I have had a few months of no problem connections. I just wish they would implement a fax sharing program into the unit or even a modem sharing for other than Internet connectivity. I still giv eht eunit 5 stars for the print server and the ability to use the dial up if my DSL goes down (too frequently).
Rating: Summary: Lots of bangs for the bucks! Review: I got this SMC7004BR router from ...(the website) because of the rebate offered by SMC and the discounted price ...(on the website) as well as free shipping.I figured that, if all things fail, at least I would have a firewall for ...(a good price) for my always-on cable connection. Lo and behold, I have a working 4-port router, a working print server, and a firewall. All for ...(such a good price)! Installing was basically without complications. Just follow the instructions in the leaflet. As others have noted, because I use @home, I have to enter the complete mail server IP address in order to get Outlook Express to work. Get that complete address from @home. It took a little bit of fiddling to get the print server feature to work. One thing that the leaflet doesn't mention when installing the print server function is to reboot the router after plugging in the printer cable. Once I did that, it worked fine and my print/network speed seems unaffected whatsoever (contrary to what others have experienced) by this function up and running. Now, I have two computers and a laser printer on my home network and the capacity to extend that to another two more pcs. What a deal! Buy it..........especially when SMC/...(the website) offer an undeniable deal.
Rating: Summary: Simple and effective Review: I had been investigating routers and read that this was faster than the Linksys and other comparable routers, so I decided to buy it. It was surprisingly easy to set up, even though I am in the computer industry and don't find these things difficult anyhow. I had some issues with my e-mail after setting up the router, but that was solved with a trip to the support site and a phone call to @home to get the fully-qualified mail server name (not an SMC issue, but an issue with routers in general)...
Rating: Summary: Looks good for home, no good for NFS Review: I have a Netgear RT314 for home, and bought this for the office to give me more ports and to allow me to use DHCP at work as well as at home. Very easy to configure. Easy to configure it with my old fixed IP address etc. to spoof my static IP laptop. Worked fine on general stuff (web browsing, email etc.) but I could not get Hummingbird NFS Maestro client to work through it to map NFS drives. First of all my NFS client complained of "will not work with weak security", so I configured my laptop to be DMZ to enable all port access, no filtering. At this point it did not return the same error, but could not map the drives (I think it timed out or something). I have no time to mess around with tech support, expecially for something so "weird" as NFS where I would expect to get not much help from tech support. It's going back to the store. Maybe great for you, expecially for home use, but no good for me.
Rating: Summary: Web interface seems to hang Review: I have symptoms like a previous reviewer stated: the router seems to hang frequently when printing. Also, the web page access also seems to hang frequently (especially if you don't logout from a previous session).
Rating: Summary: Great product !!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I just recieved my SMC router and just plugged in and i was surfing the web. Very easy to install. Good price too !
Rating: Summary: down PPOE forever!!!! Review: I've used it for a year now on a single computer. If you have a single computer, you still need one of these. It works without a PPOE client and logs in all on its own. When I turn the computer on the ol' DSL is ready and waiting. When I visit the security checking services I grade at the top of the class without a piece of firwall software wasting memory. I'd give up DSL as easily as giving up a router...and that ain't a gonna happen... P.S. Works great with a cable modem too...

Rating: Summary: SMC7004BR is a good bang for the buck & works w/Linux to... Review: I've very happy with this little cable/DSL switch/router and the print server comes in very handy also. Best of all is that it works quite well in a multi-platform environment with proprietary operating systems and Linux. The firewall feature is very effective and easy to configure via its web interface and stands up quite nicely to the security test probes that can be used at... - it passes all tests in "stealth" mode; good by ZoneAlarm & ipchains; SMC7004BR has replaced you. I highly recommend this; it's a good bang for the buck.
Rating: Summary: Easy to setup, great price Review: It only took me about 2 minutes to hook this thing up and access the Internet, and the print server is a nice added feature. So far my only complaint is the system file. It informs you of an attempted intrusion or probe, but it doesn't really define whether or not this person was denied access or not. Just somewhat confusing.
