Rating: Summary: Works great, cheap! Review: Anyone who uses their home computer a lot knows that you can never have enough usb ports. I quickly realized after getting my new computer that I would need a usb hub, and the D-Link DSB-H4 hub is perfect. It was [price] from Amazon, free shipping (at the time) and you get a [price] rebate. I can't think of a better computer peripheral buy for under [price]. Functionally, the hub is simple; you just plug it into the computer and the power outlet and away you go. I hooked my scanner up to the hub and then tried it directly into the computer and didn't notice any change in speed. Not much more to say; you can spend more for a hub, but why?
Rating: Summary: SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK! Review: This is my second D-Link USB Hub and NEITHER of them worked. Both worked for about a day and after that the computer simply wouldn't recognize them. And good luck dealing with the company--difficult to contact, won't return your calls. Very frustrating. Needless to say, after this experience I will never buy D-Link again.
Rating: Summary: BEWARE! Same power problem as others & BAD customer support Review: Worked for about a week and then it simply went dead. Tried to get an RMA from D-Link to replace it, but D-Link was so incompetent and bad to deal with that I eventually just gave up. Definitely go with another company!
Rating: Summary: D-Link doesn't link Review: Being a novice, this out of the box product's directions are extremely vague. I suggest the booklet was written in a non-english speaking country. Just vague and uninformative. This product actually was plug n play, My personal expierence however, was that it plugged in and played for about 1 hour. When I powered up my computer the next day, it had discontined working. Trying to contact this company thru their website was another trick. When I did get to the tech site and asked for help or suggestions, a week had passed without any contact. I've decided to forgo this particular product and try another...too bad.But for the price, I guess you get what you pay for...
Rating: Summary: D IS FOR DOOKY Review: Owned 2 in a span of a week. I put both the printer and scanner on this hub, used the external power on both, and it still whacked out on me. 1st) One of the ports burned out 2nd) It was no longer getting power from either source. By the way, this thing was made in China. I'm going to try Belkin.
Rating: Summary: D STANDS FOR DOOKY Review: I've owned 2 of these bad boys and returned them both within a week because 1) a port burned on the first one and 2) main bus burned on the second one.I'm going to try a belkin.
Rating: Summary: Self Power Review: My computer has 2 usb ports, but I needed 4, so I bought the unit. My computer was on when I first plugged it to my usb port. Then I plugged it into the wall, so it would become self powered, and it worked fine for that session. But when I pressed shut down and then tried to turn it on again... The power button was useless, it didn't work. I had to run the unit on non-self powered mode for my computer to run correctly. I don't know if this is my computer's fault, or just the unit. But otherwise it works as advertised. Thanks D-Link
Rating: Summary: 2 of 4 ports broken, plus not for Visor users Review: Unfortunately, this hub was defective. Problems encountered when I hooked it up to my iMac: --I connected a printer, scanner, and Visor. The 1st two worked but the Visor didn't (no matter which port used). The Visor works fine when I hook it up directly to a USB port on my computer. --The hub feels shoddy. When you plug things in, you're afraid you'll break it. --Two of the green lights blinked on and off. Does this indicate that these ports are working/ not working? --I then tested all 4 ports on the hub with my USB mouse, and realized that 2 of the 4 ports didn't work. Decided to return it and try a different brand.
Rating: Summary: Works well! Review: I needed an inexpensive USB Hub, and orderd this one. A few days later it was 14.95 in the local Best Buy flyer, after a 10.00 rebate. I only wish it came with rubber feet, so it would not slide all over the place. I taped it down :) I'm still happy with it, and would recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Bummer. Review: I'm revising my rating downward after failing to get my printer to operate consistently with this hub despite its bulky and heavy-duty power supply. When I switched to a lighter Asante 4-port hub, I no longer had any problems. Maybe the problem was in my USB cable, because the D-Link seems to be a solid, well-designed piece of equipment. The price is right, so you could do worse than give it a try for yourself. The D-Link hub initially worked fine with my iMac for lighter tasks. But as Harry Carey would say whenever a fly ball fell short of the bleachers, one more biscuit for breakfast might have insured a home run. Lately I'm finding that heavy-duty print jobs involving photos are requiring me to unplug the printer from the hub and directly into the USB port of the computer. Occasionally, the unit causes everything to freeze when attached to its power supply, then resumes functionality when I unplug its electrical source (the instructions claim the unit is 5 times more powerful when run by electricity). Fortunately, at these prices you can afford to just toss it and try something else.
