Summary: Good Router, but has some limitations
Review: The Linksys 10M Phoneline Cable/Dsl Router is very easy to set up and use. I was able to share my cable internet access right after I hooked up the unit. I currently have two computers in the network (One with Win98 SE that is connected to the cable modem upstairs and one laptop with Windows XP downstairs). Sharing internet access is no problem with this router, but you do lose some speed. Cable access is definitely much faster without the router (up to 100X faster than dialup) and the speed reduces after the router is installed (10X faster than dialup), but it is still a lot faster than dialup and doesn't tie up the phone.

Overall, this is a good product if you want to share broadband access over long distances in your home without running wires. I feel that it is better than wireless networking because with wireless networking there may be distance limitations (up to 300 feet I think), but you do have to sacrifice some speed. I'm planning on using the router on weekdays (reduced traffic) and just using the cable modem on weekends (high traffic).

Summary: Awesome, simply awesome.
Review: This Cable/DSL router is so cool. It works like a charm. I was concerned about security after adding a DSL hookup with a static IP address. Plugged in this puppy, added my IP addresses to it and the automatic DHCP worked like magic. All the PCs on my home network are set to obtain IP address automatically, instant access to the internet on the whole network. Plus it functions as a firewall. Awesome.

Summary: Nothing But Problems...Go with ethernet routing instead
Review: This phoneline networking technology is not ready for the big time yet. I don't think it ever will be. Sometimes it works ok, but most of the time, it doesn't. You lose speed on the computers that connect to the network through regular phone lines. It is very seldom that you can actually see other computers in your Network Neighborhood. Sometimes, I can't even get on the internet, and I have to reset the entire network! I have to reboot in this manner at least once a day. I've only used this technology for about a month, and I'm already fed up with it. Don't even think about using the Linksys HPN200 cards for your phoneline network if you decide to actually waste money on this type of networking. I bought 2 of the HPN200's, and neither of them could install on my Win98 machines or my Win2000 machine. I ended up having to buy Netgear cards instead. Tech support is no help at all. When I called them, I was helped out by a kid that sounded 15 years old. He basically told me that a lot of customers were having the same file-sharing problems, but there's nothing they could do about it. This guy basically told me that's the way it is and there's nothing they can do about it. He gave me some website to go to for third-party help! DO NOT GO WITH PHONELINE NETWORKING! THERE ARE BETTER, MORE WIDELY USED AND SUPPORTED METHODS OUT THERE!

Summary: An excellent product
Review: This product is a cable/DSL router/firewall which will allow two computers to share an internet connection and IP address independently (neither has to be an "always on" server). I am using it with an HPN200 homePNA card to connect to one of the machines, and using standard Cat. 5 cable to the other machine. Setup was easier than expected, though the actual instructions are lacking at times (nowhere in the manual is the homePNA part of the router mentioned). I did not need tech support. All in all, the setup is working great at a fraction of the cost of other homePNA compatible routers (netgear, 2wire) and adds incredible functionality (and security). One thing not mentioned in the documentation... HomePNA wires do NOT go through DSL filters!

Summary: Great Labor Saver!
Review: This router is a very effective means of connecting multiple computers to a high speed internet connection and sharing files and printers. Installs in minutes, virtually idiot-proof.

Summary: Great product but...
Review: This router was easy to set up, worked like a champ for a year, then died. Linksys admitted it was dead, but so far five calls and an E-Mail have yielded promises to send an RMA but no actual RMA. I used this to set up a network and share a cable modem in an older home where Ethernet wasn't practical, and both the networking components and the router worked well. So go ahead, but be prepared for some potentially not-so-great support.

Summary: Great router, but speed drop in Internet at first, now fixed
Review: This was the cheapest place I could find for the router. All in all, it works great! Just hook up the cable modem to the WAN port, and then the phoneline from the router to the wall. Have all the other computers connect to a phoneline in different places, and all can go online. Others have said they had trouble getting Win2K to get up and on the network, but I did not have a prob (since I am pretty computer savvy). On top of that, the built in bridge works great to connect via LAN using a regular Cat5 cable.

The reason for 4 stars is that I can notice the drop in speed of the internet after hooking up this router. It's still faster than dial up, but not as fast as having the computer hooked up directly to the cable modem. Linksys website says that the newest firmware will not fix this problem, so I have not tried to upgrade the firmware.

This router is great if you don't like to run Ethernet cables around the house, which can get fairly expensive. I plan on keeping the router since I do not have the time to run cables all around the house.

***UPDATE*** I just downloaded the flash upgrade for this router, and did the CNET internet speed test...(drumroll please)....The internet speed picked up and is almost just as fast as the cable modem itself! The flash was easy to upgrade, just download the file, unzip it, and view the readme file. Simple! You can even flash it while you are online! works great now! Enjoy the router! I still highly recommend it!

Summary: Couldn't have been much easier.
Review: Using a cable modem with a desktop and laptop connected via HPNA 2.0 devices. Original setup used ICS to share the modem, but required that the desktop remain on to act as the "server." Followed the instructions provided with the HPRO200 and was up and sharing within 20 minutes. The longest and hardest part of my setup was untangling the jungle of cables behind my desktop. Incredibly easy. The only thing missing is a print server.
