Summary: Good for the price, and it works!
Review: Now, I just got the thing today, so I may want to change my review later, but so far, it has worked perfectly. Windows XP identified it automatically, and my external hard drives appear to be working at full usb2.0 speed now. My only complaint is that it installs three root hubs into device manager, but hey, if it works, it works!

Review: This device didn't work with my HP laptop running XP. It destabilized the system and I had to return the product.

Summary: Good Hardware, Bad Documentation
Review: This is a fine piece of hardware, but on some systems it may not be as "plug and play" as the scanty documentation would have you believe. From what I've read about other USB 2.0 adapters, this appears to be a common problem, so you might as well buy this one.
If you are having problems insalling it on an older Dell laptop (like the reviewer above), you'll need to update your PCMCIA Card Controller. [...]
Windows XP may default to older USB Host Controllers. Check "Control Panel/System Properties/Hardware/Device Manager/Universal Serial Bus Controller" and make sure that that the "NEC" drivers are listed. If not, you'll have to select "driver/update driver/install from a list/don't search" and force Windows to use the drivers that came with the device. Windows will complain they aren't digitally signed. Ignore it. In my experience, at least 50% of drivers aren't.

Summary: OK but flawed
Review: This product is fairly easy to setup in WinXP (basically plug and play) because the operating system can automatically recognize the card and install the driver.The card comes with a DC power for use whenever necessary. However, it wouldn't be good if extra power is ALWAYS needed. I have a USB2.0 flash drive (really really tiny and supposed would consume much power), which is recognizable on other computers. This flash drive is ONLY recognized by Addonics Cardbus when it has the DC power plugged in. I see it a big drawback: who would want to take another DC power with a laptop all the time?
