Summary: Fast and super easy
Review: Just setup this unit and it went smooth as pie. Some of the reviews indicated that it was trouble. I had no problems at all. I had 3 computers with internet connections up and running with in 10 minutes. I took longer to set up my internal networking configuration but this went well too. As far as documentation the paper book had just enough info to get you going. The online manual at first glance seemed very informative. Also no problems as far as resetting anything on the router or my cable modem. I was a bit worried about this unit doing so many things for so little money but I would say that for the price it is a great deal.

Summary: Easy to setup and works as expected
Review: I have two computers running on Win 98 Second Edition and an @Home network. Just got the router today from Amazon. Five minutes were all that took to get both up and running happily (basically just followed the simple instructions and plugged in some ethernet cables).

If you are a lazy user that likes good solutions to problems, this one is easy to set up and works as expected. (I didn't set up the printer-sharing for both computers, BTW -- no need here.)

Summary: easy to use
Review: aside from the fact that the menus are slightly confusing, this is a great and easy to use piece of hardware. definitely a good bargain for home users.

Summary: It has done the trick!
Review: I'm technically challenged, and even I am sharing a cable modem connection across 3 machines with different OSs, one a business laptop with VPN requirements. A SNAP to set up. I was a little worried buying one of the least expensive routers I've seen, but there's nothing cheap about this thing.

One problem -- the install disk did not include the print server client. Tech support picked up after about 5 min on hold, and promptly e-mailed me the missing file. Problem solved. Smooth sailing since. The print server was an unexpected feature but one that has been real nice; I don't have to keep a machine running just to have access to the printer, and it connects up with a standard printer cable instead of a NIC. I don't remember seeing this feature in any of the comparably priced alternatives.

Summary: Plug-n-Play Really Lives
Review: As a new @home cable modem subscriber, I am disinclined to 'share' my resources with other subscribers, any where, anytime. ;~) I have been satisfied with my BlackIce *software* firewall, but wanted to add a bit more protection, this o/s being a Bill Gates hackable special. I read dozens of the user reviews of the LinkSys and the SMC products on Amazon, and decided to go with the SMC.

Glad I did!

Quick delivery from Amazon, no hassle plug-in, and easy step-by-step instructions that didn't miss a beat. I was able to go 99% with the default settings - choosing to belay the ping response being my only variation. Interestingly, the perceived performance seems faster - it takes several seconds less to bring up the Amazon homepage.,

All in all, a bargain. Highly recommended.

Summary: an Excellent product for the Price
Review: It was a piece of cake to setup. The nice thing bout this unit unlike the Lynksys or Asanti units is that u get to disable the firewall which I needed to do. An excellent value! One has to remember to ask for the email and news server names from your ISP though.

Summary: It's So easy to set up!
Review: I bought this router to use with my cable modem. When I got it I pluged it in and followed the setup instructions for my Macintosh and in about 30min. I was up and running. I ran a check on the firewall at dslreports.com and It said that it worked just fine, where as before when I was connected directly to the cable modem the test came back with a lot of security errors. I think this is a good router and it has the four ports so you don't have to buy a switch if your using it for a small LAN (I run a 100 foot ethernet cable too the other side of the house and have no problem). Best router for under one hundred dollars.

Summary: Package missing some stuff
Review: I was able to install using the quick install. However, only 1 CD was the documentation CD. Was missing the printer port drivers etc. Was easy though to download the stuff from SMC website.
Printer port is not working for my Canon BJC5000 series printer. That is the only problem for me.
Connection went up after I added the router. Overall quite happy.

Summary: Terrible
Review: SMC does not make mention the fact that there product is incompatible with Cisco Aironet devices. Since I have an Aironet device the router is useless to me. Tech support is also useless. I would never recommend an SMC product. Get a Linksys they work perfectly out of the box.

Summary: Awesome
Review: Other than some minor compatibility issues, this product is wonderful. It does its job and it does it well. The bonus of course is the print server. Can't touch the price of this device with that additional option.
