Rating: Summary: Works with Logitech devices Review: After trying the Belkin PS/2 and USB 2-port KVMs, I finally tried this one based on the other customer reviews. It does indeed work with my Logitech Elite keyboard and MX700 mouse connected to Windows XP and Fedora Core 3 systems. All extra buttons on the keyboard and mice work as they should under XP using the Logitech drivers. (I have not assigned the extra keys under FC3.) I can't make a judgement on the audio quality, since I do not use it on this switch.
This switch even works when one of the systems crashes, something the Belkin switch couldn't do. With the Belkin, whenever one system went down, I had to unplug the switch from the computer just to switch to the other computer.
Rating: Summary: Iogear not upfront in product description about conflicts Review: Despite the mixed reviews here, I decided to gamble and take a chance on the Iogear GCS632U since I've had previous success with their switches. However, I immediately ran into problems with my mouse and keyboard. (Video looked great.) When I contacted Iogear support via their online form, they sent the following blurb back to me. I'm pasting it here so those of you who are still making a purchasing decision can have this information in addition to the incomplete product description provided above:
"Please ensure that you are using a native wired mouse and keyboard as wireless devices or any types of converters/adapters are NOT supported and will not work. Also docking stations or port replicator will interfere with proper KVM functionality and special keys on multimedia keyboards are not supported and will not work."
Rating: Summary: It works with my Logitech Cordless MX Duo!! Review: I bought a MiniView Micro USB Plus 2 port KVM (GCS632U) to go with my Logitech Cordless MX Duo. I plugged in a single USB cable from the Logitech into the KVM's keyboard USB port. I left the mouse port empty since the Logitech's keyboard and mouse both use the USB port. I connected the cables to my computers, and fired them up. My computer that never had the Logitech Mouseware software installed recognized and worked perfectly. My other machine that ironically had the software previously installed, needed to have it reinstalled. After that minor hiccup, which is completely unrelated to the KVM, I had everything working flawlessy. All the special keys worked on my machine with the Logitech keyboard and mouse software installed. The other machine doesn't need the special features so I never installed the software. Anyway, what the Belkin USB (F1DS102U F1DS104U) KVM couldn't give me for $100, IOGEAR gave me for $69.99 :) Repeating keys work as they should and switching machines is so fast sometimes I can't tell if I switched. I also like the fact that the unit doesn't beep! Thanks IOGEAR for telling the truth about your products.
Rating: Summary: Great for Macs Review: I can't speak for the functionality of this product with Sun or Windows machines, but it worked great with my two PPC machines, a powerbook and a g4 tower, both running OSX 10.3.2. The only two bits of strangeness were A) you have to put the device into an admin mode to switch the keystroke for machine toggling to Control-Control, since it is set to Scrolllock-Scrolllock by default (but this is very easy), and B) you have to make sure to plug both your keyboard and mouse into the device (the mouse plugged in to the keyboard and that plugged into the device renders the mouse non-functional - but again - this is really no problem). The device works great and even allows for the use of special keys like eject and volume up/down, just like the package says... This is the best equipment I've bought since my powerbook, and it makes for a great companion piece for using your laptop and desktop machine in tandem.
Rating: Summary: Works perfectly on Macs Review: I did quite a bit of research before buying this model, and I am very pleased that this one works as advertised. To change keystrokes for switching on Mac you need to access numlock which you can do by typing option-clear. I have had no trouble at all with this switch and it works very fast since it emulates a keyboard and monitor at all times, so the disconnected machine doesn't need to wake up. A great product all in all (especially having suffered in the past with manual ADB switchboxes which gave all kinds of problems with slow mice etc).
Rating: Summary: Does not work with the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard & Mouse. Review: I got this unit and it does not work with the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard & Mouse. The keyboard types only 50% of the time and the mouse does not work at all. But the video quality is very good. It would have been an ideal unit if the keyboard & mouse worked.
Rating: Summary: Another happy Logitech MX Duo user Review: I had my eye on this KVM switch because I saw on the Logitech.com forum that this product worked with the wireless MX Duo keyboard/mouse combo. Now that I have this switch, I can tell you that it works with the MX Duo as a previous reviewer stated, including all extra buttons on the keyboard and mouse. I'm running the video at a resolution of 1024x768 and all is well.
As for the audio, it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be based on previous reviews. I suppose it did sound a little thin, but I would've had to be paying close attention to notice. And anyway, I didn't buy this for the audio, because I'd rather have audio from both computers at all times instead of having the audio switch along with the video. For this reason, I don't even use the audio feature of this KVM.
Rating: Summary: Good Switch, Terrible Audio Review: I'm a Mac user who just bought a Windows PC for gaming, and wanted to keep my existing monitor/keyboard/mouse/audio setup. The Miniview looked perfect. Well, it's almost perfect. Hooking it up was no problem, and the switching works fine for everything but audio. Using their audio pass-through, I only got the left channel and the sound was really underpowered -- tinny and quiet. This confirms another review here at Amazon criticizing the Iogear Miniview's poor audio. Still, I couldn't find another unit that would do what this one does for the price, so unless you want to move up to a switching hub, this guy is probably your bet. In my case, I have an external amplifier for the computer speakers (the excellent Cambridge Soundworks Model Twelve), so I can just run a separate audio cable from the PC into the amp and then switch audio that way when needed -- not a great solution, but good enough.
Rating: Summary: Works, but not so well Review: On a *daily* basis, it will stop recognizing the the hotkeys to switch between PC's, requiring I unplug the keyboard and mouse from the unit and then plug them back in to get the hotkeys to work again.
Also, highlighting text, then typing to replace it generally ends up with very random results as the highlighted text is usually not replaced and your cursor jumps somewhere else in the document. Occasionally, for no discernable reason, your cursor will just start racing away from where you were just typing.
If you're willing to get up and unplug/plug cables once or twice a day and lose some of the type-and-replace convenience, this works fine. But the idea behind these gadgets is to increase convenience, not reduce it.
Rating: Summary: Very Satisfied Review: One reviewer said that extra keyboard and mouse buttons don't work with IO Gear Micro KVM's. Well, with the GCS632U the extra buttons on my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer and the extra buttons on my keyboard - which they're aren't alot on a Grandtec Virtually Indestructible Keyboard: power, sleep, and suspend - do work. I'm skeptical that the unhappy reviewer has actually tried the GCS632U model. The mouse and keyboard input to each computer comes in via a single USB connection, which frees up an extra USB port if you need that. I haven't tried the audio switching part because I'm not really interested in that feature.
