Summary: This works great!
Review: I am very impressed with the features this little piece of wonder has built in. When I upgraded the firmware even more buttons to click were added in the web based setup. UPnP is now officially working in this router and officially supporting Xbox Live. It's hard to believe that a couple years ago a one port router with less features was more than double this price.I haven't actually had to use all of the settings, which I am not sure anyone could/would need to, but knowing they are all there lets you rest assured that you are just about ready for anything in the future of your home network. I would recommend this to anyone looking to provide top security for this price range (SPI, NAT), and who wants to enable thier other computers to share thier broadband Internet access.

Summary: Consistant with its performance
Review: Within the 3 months I've had this thing up and running, I have had only a few snags in operation. Two of them were when our ISP went out for a couple hours or so, and the other was when I was figuring out how to allow certain ports to be passed through to a certain IP address. It didn't take long to figure it out, but I did have to get out the manual. Other than those issues its been working perfect since day one. I have upgraded with all the firmwares that were released since I bought it and although I didn't know I needed it UPnP came in quite handy when I got XBOX Live for my birthday. All I had to do was plug in my XBOX into an available port on the DI-604. Next thing I know I can play games online. I haven't had to call tech support since this is so easy and everything I've needed has been in the manual. I highly recommend this Cable/DSL Router. It has worked for me and all my games, PC or XBOX.

Summary: even D-Link Tech Support says it's low quality
Review: Aside from the earlier remarks about the cheap design and manufacture, there is a very annoying "bug" with this product: it will not *automatically* log in to your ISP via PPPoE. To log on to your ISP, you must log in to the web browser configuration screen and click the connect button. If you leave the power on to your modem and firewall-router, then you're O.K. If power is ever lost, you will have to log in and connect from the web browser every time. I confirmed this with D-Link Technical Support. The D-Link Technician said that this is a cost-reduced product with fewer features and lower quality. So, if like me you don't leave your broadband modem, firewall-router and/or PC on all day, you should avoid this product. There are firewall-routers from SOHOware and Netgear that automatically connect to your ISP whenever anyone on the LAN side needs access.

Summary: Very simple install anf great performance
Review: I haven't noticed any flaws with this thing yet. I bought it because the PCMagazine review rated it an Editors Choice, and it costs less than any other router out there, plus it has better security than the other routers. With the SPI and NAT this router tops the others in security and with the easy setup and exstenive amount of features this is the easiest and most robust router for the money you spend. I am very pleased, expecially because of how quick I was able to be all set up. I basically plugged it in and I was on the Internet in about 5 minutes. I then upgraded the firmware and set some security options to not allow my children to access certain sites with certain "keywords". very useful.

Summary: You get what you pay for (and more)
Review: When i first got this router it gave me some trouble. Mostly frequent disconnections and aslghtly buggy interface. The new fimrware however fixed both of these and now i'm quite happy with the router. It offers many options that other routers in the price range don't. Tech support is non existant. However DLink is nice enough that if you do require the router to be replaced, they'll send you a new router before you have to send yours in. all in all, the router was easy to install, easy to maintain, and did what it was supposed to. After insalling the newest firmware I would surely buy this router again.

Summary: Dissconnections
Review: This product work terribly with aol. We are dissconnected every ten minues or less, which has only happened after we put in the router. Do not buy this if you have aol.

Summary: Why no network?
Review: I had four computers running nicely in with a hub and an ISDN hook-up. I changed to a cheaper and faster ISDN hook-up and bought a modem and a DI-604. Easy to get onto the net from each computer, but impossible to get my network up again. D-Link's support was non-existant on e-mail. After four phone calls managed to talk to incoherent youth who said D-Link did not give support on networks. Finally spoke to seller of DI-604. He talked me through several attempts to get the network running, but failed after trying hard. This is in Sweden. I would avoid this product after two days of headaches, a crashed computer and lost Outlook and Outlook Express. D-Link also wiped out all my installed programs. To pay money for this nightmare is crazy.

Summary: Can't understand why it's so highly rated...
Review: This unit has the typical features found on other similar router, nothing about it stands out. There are however quite a few flaws. In an effort to cut cost, D-Link made this unit very small, and it is constructed out of the cheapest plastic you can find. It's so light in terms of weight, that when you plug in the power cord, WAN port cable, and a couple of LAN port cables, the unit would not sit flat on the table. The cables would exert enough force to tilt the unit. The spray painted on silver color would peel and chip after only a few weeks. There are also quite a few firmware bugs, but some of them did get fixed with newer revisions. Update of firmware is however very tricky, the file browse/apply options don't always work as they are suppose to. Furthermore, resetting of the unit would reset the time to April 1, 2002? (April fool's?) The build-in NTP support won't sync up the new date and time automatically. In theory, this unit might be more advanced than early D-Link products, but the build quality don't come close...

Summary: Best router out there.
Review: Plugged it in and was online in 5 minutes with ATT DSL. The configuration (via any java-compatible browser) is straightforward and simple. The DI-604's firewall also has many options for power users, such as special applications, scheduling, and VPN passthrough. The 604 automatically synchronizes its time to internet time servers, so schedules will always be exact. For security, traffic can be filtered via ip address, mac address, url, and domain. This router even works with MSN messenger's voice and video chat! Messenger's audio/video chat is notorious for not working with routers, and Microsoft says that the solution using a Universal Plug and Play (Upnp) router. D-Link hasn't officially released upnp support for the 604, but their firmware beta version 2.03g from their support site works with upnp. I was only able to use Messenger a/v after upgrading the firmware, which was quick and easy. One caveat: I haven't been able to make a phone call with net2phone. I suppose that it would be fixed as upnp matures. Performance using the router wasn't noticably any different from plugging the computer directly into the modem. (I confirmed this using dslreports' speed test.) Neither was there a noticable increase in ping times, especially important for multiplayer games. //Dec 2002 Update: Dlink has officially released firmware 2.10, with support for UPnP and Xbox Live.

Summary: Great little router for the money
Review: This router works great. Set up is simple with my cable modem and no problem with DHCP mixing PCs and SUN. The software is already pretty upto date so I didn't even border to flash it for the minor version change. I was a little worried about routing performance so I ran a check with 2 PCs downloading files from the ISP's news server. At 120k bytes per second (thats close to 1M bits per second), no noticeable slow down comapred to connecting directly to the cable modem.
