Summary: Excellent product at breakthrough price
Review: This is an amazing price for this piece of equipment. It lets you connect multiple users to one cable modem. It also comes with a 4-port network switch, so if you have 4 or less users you don't even need another switch. However, if have more users you can uplink it to another switch. It also helps keep outsiders from seeing your computers (but use ZoneAlarm on each computer as well). It is small, the instructions are great, and sets up quickly. This is the router the insiders are using to share a cable-modem, as revealed by a persual of the relevant usenet groups. Way to go again, Linksys.

Summary: Fast, easy install and secure!
Review: Very impressed! The web interface is very cool and easy to use. Configuration was a breaze. Once GTE figured out how to make my DSL modem connect (took them 2 days). I rebooted the router, it synced up, got an IP and I was surfing away! I haven't had one problem yet. Downloads are very fast and stable. I downloaded a 90Meg file constantly pegging my bandwidth (768Kbs Down from GTE) for over 10 minutes without any slowdown or corruption. As well, all security test. . . I have used show the router to be very secure, you can even set it not to return pings. As far as a hacker can tell, you don't even exist. Not that looks matter, but the styling is very cool. It looks very nice on my desk with all the flashy lights. I don't know about you, but I like being able to see a status light to clue me in on what is going on. Very cool!

If you want a fast, secure, flexible broadband connected LAN, this is your Router!

Summary: Two words ¿ Simply Awesome
Review: I own other LINKSYS products and have found them to be of very good quality, but this router is just awesome. I was running a Linux server with IP masq. but replaced that with this unit and I am very pleased with the performance.

As for the set-up it is very straight foward. I had 2 of my 4 computers up in less than 20 minutes after I opened the package. If you want to share your cable or DSL connection this is the way to go.

Summary: Corrupts downloads! It's true!
Review: I read through the many reviews on this product and thought the good far outweighed the bad...so I thought I'd give it a try.

The first evening I tried to set it up, I followed the instructions to the letter. Entered all of the required information and I couldn't browse the Internet from any of my client machines. I could ping and tracert, but I could't get any website to come up. I gave up for the night and turned everything off. When I came back the next day to try again, I turned it back on and it worked...go figure.

Anyway, I figured it's working now so I'll upgrade the firmware as Linksys recommends. I tried numerous times to download their firmware, but each time I tried to unzip it I either got an error telling me the file was corrupt, or it would generate an illegal operation.

I'm going to give it some time and see how things go simply because this was the solution I needed. I hope that I (or Linksys) get the problems ironed out.

Summary: Excellent product!
Review: After setting up the router and figuring out which programs required what ports and forwarding those ports, everything worked smoothly. I highly recommend this product, as it does exactly what it is supposed to do, and setup is simple!

Summary: It works just like that
Review: I felt confident that this product would work as expected despite some users' bad experience. I've always had my home computers networked using software-based router/proxy. When I saw this inexpensive router, I thought it would be a perfect replacement to the proxy software which sits on a powerful machine that often crashes.

It only took me less than five minutes to connect the cables and turned on the machine. It works just like that. No configuration whatsoever. The only thing I had to change was my e-mail setting which previously did not use the full domain name of the mail server.

Summary: Almost too easy, it's scary.
Review: I purchase this router to work with my DSL modem, sharing the connection with two computers and an Apple Airport basestation. The installation was trivial, I was online with an iMac and Windows box in less than 15 minutes! Even though the company and documentation only support Windows, I think the only reason they don't include setup instructions for a Mac is that the Mac was so simple to configure it was a joke. I even did the router setup from the Mac since it is used a webbased interface. Will be putting the Airport basestation on in couple of days but that should be a breeze also. Don't forget to get your CAT 5 cables when you by this (none come with it) and enjoy. This thing is pretty amazing, especially at this price. For those having to use PPPoE to connect to your DSL, it is built into the router, you just enter your info and click a button to turn it on. I have noticed a slight lose in speed with the router in, over just putting the modem on a computer, but not much and that could be a time of day issue too.

Summary: Rox
Review: Per LinkSys, USE DHCP. I have a Linux box on my LAN which I was planning to forward FTP, Telnet, etc. requests to. The user manual suggests DHCP should be turned off for this to fly.

Not true.

In the router configuration, specify the starting DHCP IP address as 100. I then configured my Linux box to a static address of 192.168.1.2 and forwarded accordingly via the router's Forwarding tab within the Advanced configuration.

Everything flew as advertised.

Finally, be sure to specify "Client for Microsoft Networks" as the default Primary Network Login and be sure to give your ISP the "WAN ADDRESS" of the router if needed. (my cable modem ISP only hands out a dynamic IP addresses to a specified MAC address - 5 minute phone call to change it)

BTW, the LinkSys tech support number is 800.326.7114 and is as 24-hour shop. Unfortunately I was picked up by an operator that took down my name and number to be called back "due to heavy call loads". The turnaround time was about an hour and the staff was XLNT once I finally got them on the horn.

Definitely 5 Stars.

Summary: Great product!
Review: What a solution, I recommend this product to all broadband users that are plagued by their ISP's limit on purchasable IP's. Great hardware, but the Tech Support is a little lacking...no problem though.

Summary: Not restricted to one person, GREAT PRODUCT!
Review: I just read a review which stated the product would only allow 1 person on the internet at a time, this is not true. I have setup my router and have had up to 3 other people playing on the internet at the same time. There is a little programming which is involved in releasing the ports, but it is explained in their documentation, or you can call their support if you are not sure. I give this product 5 stars, because you can have up to 254 people on at the same time (though it would seriously cut your bandwidth) and it protects you from hackers reaching your computer. This is worth the money if you have a cable or DSL modem.
