Summary: Good for internet BAD for Quake II Games
Review: Was up and running with internet access for all four machines at home in no time flat. Dificulty is, as the port mapping(I no nothing of networking, my bud's do it for a living though) is poor. The problem is that no two of my machines can connect to the same server at the same time. That kinda takes ALL the advantages of having a fast switch/router for my home. Aparently LinkSYS didn't figure on some of us actually using this as a gaming solution. The UMAX model supposedly does a better job of port allocation for such games. Good luck..

Summary: Great for the price. SOME Problems
Review: For the price this is the best router on the market. It has a 4 port SWITCH, which is actually faster than a hub. It integrates flawlessly into the network and installation couldn't be simpler. All you do is plug all the computers in, set them to use DHCP connection, set up the router with the easy to use internet interface, and you're ready to go.

SOME PROBLEMS though... Many users have reported that large downloads become corrupted. Also, it is difficult to upgrade with MacOS. Most of these issues, however, have been fixed with new versions of firmware. I would recommend this router to anyone needing a simple wasy to connect their small or home network to one internet connection. ...

Summary: Fantastic
Review: This is a great product. I hooked up 5 PC's running Win NT 4.0 Workstation Sp6, Win 95 and Win 98SE using PPPoE over DSL Modem (Had to flash the router with the latest firmware 1.23Beta).

Summary: Easy set up, smooth operation
Review: This is a terriffic product. Very easy set up, even for a networking novice. Smooth/ transparent operation and a very reasonable price. When I purchased it, the single port was not yet available, or I might have opted to go that route since I am using it primarily for the firewall. The single port is also a good option for folks who are considering going to a wireless network- but, I have absolutely no complaints with this choice & for folks who are interested in setting up a network this is a very good choice. The literature says it can support more than 500 simultaneous users- well beyond the needs of most home or small offices users.

Summary: Great product (when it works)
Review: The Linksys Cable/DSL Router, on paper, is a great product forsharing a single ISP-provided IP over LAN for those of you unwillingto shell out more cash to your already unresponsive broadband provider.

In practice, I'm having to reset the router every two to four hours, as none of my PC's are able to connect to the WAN side of the router. I haven't had the pleasure of contacting Linksys's customer support yet, but I may have to resort to those desperate measures if I can't get my machines to stay connected for longer than a couple of hours at a stretch.

There are reported instances of data corruption during upload and download, even with the newest (or even newer) firmware. I have yet to experience any of that yet, but that probably has to do with the fact that I can't stay connected long enough to make any sizeable uploads or downloads.

That said, when this unit works, it works quite nicely. When it doesn't (which seems to more often than not), it's almost enough to cough up the extra cash to buy a few more IP addresses...

Summary: Its nice but...
Review: The good.

This runs right out of the box. I was literally up in seconds. And it only took me a few minutes to get some of the advanced features working.

The Bad.

I couldn't get certain things working. FTP sites with port numbers other than 21 wouldn't respond. And only 10 ports to forward, it just doesn't seem like enough. Especially if you're going to be running more than 2 computers off of the router.

If you're a "power user" I would just recommend getting a linux box set up with IPMASQ going, its cheaper, you'll learn some cool things and its more configurable.

Summary: This router is great.
Review: I had three computers surfing the web withing 15 minutes of opening the box, Setup was completly painless as long as you understand TCP/IP networking basics. Well worth the 200$.

Summary: Unabled to make work with my GTE DSL
Review: I was not able to get the Linksys to work with my GTE DSL service. The Linksys was never able to acquire an IP address from the ISP. Linksys Tech Support was unable to resolve the problem. I subsequently bought another similar product from a local computer store and it worked right off the bat. I have no idea what the problem was with the Linksys whether it was a defective unit or some other compatibility issue with the Fujitsu/Orckit DSL modem which GTE supplies.

Summary: Works well
Review: I have found this product works very well. It is much easier and faster than a software solution. Keeps the internet out of your lan.

Summary: It works very well
Review: Well I plugged it in, did the confguration. Made no changes (dhCP both sides) for frontier / Global Croswssing. and it works. The onlything is when I power up the first tiem I MUSt do a reboot for the computer I am loggning in from the be able to access the web. it tracert's and eveything else but needs a reboot to web. over all the device is excellent. I think it might be a DhcP thing and restart resets it. Way to go Linksys and amazon for making it so cheap. Happy puppy. I just wish they made and 8 port version.
