Summary: Defective Product as recived & Zero support.
Review: The instruction manual and set-up make extensive use of the reset button, which on the unit I recieved was not there. When I called Linksys to see if they had an easy fix, I was put on hold (not unusual), but finally a message came on telling me that no one could assist me and to leave my number. It's been 5 days now and still no one has called. No matter how good the product, if the customer support is not there, the product becomes usless. In additon, where is Linksys's quality control?

Review: Ok, so clearly there are a lot of people out there who don't know anything about networking. Perhaps they shouldn't be trying to setup a home network.This product has some really great high end functionality that can't be any single product. If you understand those numbers you're typing into your computers TCP/IP confuguration, you'll have no problem.

Summary: Highly Recommended-Fantastic Performance at a Good Price
Review: Me and my fellow geeks often have LAN parties (no, they're not what you think-we set up the lan, but really spend most of our time blasting music at ungodly volumes, bbquing, and swimming...) anyway, we recently (as a group) purchased this actual hub. It didn't bonk out on us the way in which our old one had, and it also allowed easy (or as easy as could be epected) file sharing. The only downside that I can think of is the fact that this thing takes FOREVER to set up, especially when you're dying to frag all of you buddies to hell. It took at least three hours to set this up, including installing NIC cards into all of the computers. If this is your first LAN-type of thing you're buying, I would recommend this. It's generally pretty easy to set up a small in-home network (just get a few books on TCP/IP networking (UUCP is a pain), perhaps a bottle of wine and an empty afternoon...you'll be golden).

Summary: Finally makes an Ethernet LAN live up to its promise...
Review: This arrived at 4:00 pm today and by 4:30 I had it installed, including reading the manual word-for-word (it's not long) and rebooting all PC's (required). I've had a fast Ethernet LAN for > 3 years and a DSL connection for > 1 year but never until today was I able to get any PC other than my "primary" desktop (where the DSL modem connected directly to the internal Ethernet NIC) to "see" the Internet. Now they all do, and the beauty of "always on" is suddenly real. Not only that, but I tested the Linksys' firewall/security features by asking "Shields Up" to probe all protocols and ports on my LAN (www.grc.com--use it right now if you never have), and my LAN is completely invisible to the world. If you have a LAN and fast 'net access, Buy This Product!

Summary: Must have for Cable/DSL users
Review: If you want to squeeze the bandwidth from your Cable/DSL to use it on all your computers, try this toy. Amazon sells them cheap - they just dropped the price after I bought it. It worked right out of the box on my 3 computers (1 Mac). I could not believe it. After sweating to get NetBEUI to run my internal network, I would never think that setting up a network could be this easy. As long as you have Networking and TCP/IP enabled (you have to have it to read this), it should work. If you can, get the version with the 4-port switch - it is fast and replaces the need for hub/switch. This device has a basic functionality of a router without expansive gear and complicated setup. Those of you who had a chance to program a real router know what I am talking about . If you do not feel comfortable setting up filters and ports, do not use the advanced setup. If you want to learn, read about it on Internet and try. This is a great networking tool. It is very easy to use - you don't even need to know what the router is. My advice is, download the newest firmware upgrade as soon as you feel comfortable with the device. The new version has some fixes. Ping and tracert now works correctly. The firewall is foolproof by default (make sure that the "Block WAN Request" is enabled in Advanced setup). Before getting Linksys Router, I was using a free ZoneAlarm firewall, which worked well on the stand-alone computer. It always came up "Stealthy" on Gibson Research "Port Probe". Right out of the box, Linksys Router did not come "Stealthy", but showed the ports closed. I guess "Block WAN Request" was not enabled. I would not like any hacker who is scanning addresses for fast Cable/DSL starting in the 24. range, to know that I have any ports. The update takes care of this and it seems to speed up downloading.

Review: Very happy with this product, but am disappointed with the DMZ feature, it doesn't seem to work as I understood from the reviews. (DMZ is demilitarized zone which opens up a connected computer "live" to the internet for apps such as NetMeeting)

Summary: This Router even works with my Macs!
Review: After reading many reviews, both at Amazon.com and elsewhere on theWWW I was a little recluctant to purchase a product that had no, zip, zero Mac support. From what I read on Amazon.com reviews there is very little actual Windows support. Lucky for me the Linksys router worked right out of the box with my AT&T/TCI cable modem. To be more accurate I must have avoided a double whammy because AT&T/TCI does not offer phone support for networking users for $39.95 a month. The unit I purchased had fairly new firmware installed, so I haven't had to wrestle with doing a firmware upgrade. The results have been favorable. My cable internet speed has increased on both my Macs, and I've even seen an increase in speed while using Explorer under Virtual PC. My fears about losing streaming QT, and AOL messenger capability were unfounded. So why only three stars? Hey get a clue Linksys support Macs (and do a better job with the Windows machines you claim to support). Asante just introduced a new cable/dsl router, and they support Macs. With OS "X" coming down the pike, and at least one more classic OS upgrade I've got to wonder if the little Linksys lights are going to keep blinking green when those throbbing OS "X" buttons finally grace my desktop. I hope they do because I can't fault the performance of this product. I can only complain about the total lack of support for my favorite platform. Good specs and decent price are little consolation when invevitable upgrades kill your internet connection and you need support/new drivers.

Review: This is a very good product but I agree with some of the other reviews, "THEY NEED NEW TECH WRITERS". I know computers but I didn't know networking. After setting this product up, I now know networking.

Summary: Great product - works with PPPoE DSL
Review: I'm a user of Bell Atlantic's PPPoE DSL. I had a hard time getting software NAT's to work to share my internet connection at home, and when I saw that Linksys was providing support for PPPoE DSL (all Bell Atlantic DSL is PPPoE, Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) I had to get this. Be sure to install the firmware update for this hub before using it. You can get the firmware at [their website]. That will update your router with better support of PPPoE. If you have DSL or cable, get this product! It's easy to configure, all of the settings are done via a web browser. It's got port forwarding so you can have all web requests from outside your LAN go to one IP, all FTP to another internal IP, etc. Highly recommended! This one's a keeper!
