Summary: Excellent piece of equipment at a good price
Review: Administrate through a browser, set up a firewall, create a DMZ, direct incoming connections, supports VPNs - what more could you ask for? I heartily recommend this product.

Summary: The jury is still out for this product...
Review: When I bought this, I thought this product was the greatest thing since sliced bread. After I installed it, I found some annoying problems with my DSL service, but I attributed those to my provider (PacBell) who has a poor reputation in some parts of the net. Turns out, it was the Linksys causing the problems. Not to worry, there is a firmware upgrade reported to fix the DSL problems. Right?

I have been unable to successfully apply the firmware upgrade, and have rendered inoperable 5 (yes, five) of these units so far. I think Staples is getting tired of seeing me every day back for another unit! Linksys tech support (yes, I've gotten through three times now) seemed certain there was some other problem keeping the upgrade from succeeding. When the "diag" light flashes on and off continually, the unit will not work nor does the upgrade process work. It's basically dead.

I'm awaiting a call back from the "next level" Linksys support to determine what to do next. (If they would just ship me a unit with the latest firmware, that would do it! All my replacement units are at 1.21.1) If they can't figure it out, back it goes for good! (BTW, the highest level firmware on the linksys.com page is 1.30; I've seen people note that they had gotten a later firmware version... 1.30 reportedly fixes the DSL problems.)

Summary: This unit does not work at all for me...
Review: Well, it sure is NOT plug-and-play. The step-by-step instructions were not accurate. The unit now sits as a rather expensive paperweight. I tried 3 times so far, and could not get the thing to work. I can tell from the other reviews that others have been able to get this system to work, but I sure cannot. I will try again and, I expect that I will figure it out and get the thing to work. However, it sure is has not been easy thus far. (By the way, I have Verison DSL and Win2k Pro.) If anyone has accurate, step-by-step, instructions for this, please feel free to send them along.

Summary: Good Product With a Bad Problem
Review: I have two of these units, one at work and one at home.

The one at home works great. I have 3 pc's hooked into it. One Linux box and two win9x boxes. I have had no problems. For a SOHO this is the router to get!

The problem I found was with the configuration I had at my office. The one I have there kept corrupting e-mail attachments and web page images. The only thing that was different was the fact that I had the Linksys unit hooked up to a 24port switch which in turn was attached to 10 pc's on the LAN. I tried to "uplink" the Linksys to the switch and tried to "uplink" the switch to the Linksys with no results. I was forced to use something other than the Linksys for my routing needs. The Netgear RT311 worked great and no problems have occured to date.

I worked with this for a week I hope this helps you avoid the problem I had.

Review: Add my name to the list of satisfied customers. It's flexible, easy to set up and the price is right (Mom and Dad bought it for me). The only 2 suggestions I have are:

RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, go to linksys.com and get the latest firmware upgrade.

Go to http://www.timhiggins.com (really) and get plugged into an extremely well informed DSL/Cable modem users community.

That's it, Have fun.

Summary: A great product for anyone who wants to share access
Review: .

I purchased this unit after considering a number of software/cpu combinations that were either too expensive or way too complicated. The Linksys router does it all for about $150.

Now we can have all six computers in our home sharing internet access. The only glitch (not Linksys's) was with the @home service. The network identification system seems to vary from region to region (I have a fixed IP from Comcast). I simply had to put in the ID and @home domains, then choose automatic IP and zoom, I was on. I had to call Linksys to get this information, they called me back the next day with answer.

Overall, it is the simple and ideal solution for sharing dsl or cable access. In fact, for some reason, access is faster through the router. Go figure.

Summary: GREAT!!!!!
Review: I have Telocity ADSL and used to use TWO network cards in one computer along with Windows Internet Connection Sharing. That worked fairly well, but the configuration of two cards was a problem, AND more importantly, I had problems using NAPSTER. With the Linksys Router, all those problems have gone away. One note of CAUTION, if you're using Windows ICS, be sure to completely remove it before installing the router (you won't use it anymore after that, so it's ok). I as also able to get rid of my hub, and use the four ports on the back of the router to connect my home PC's. The file transfers from PC to PC are faster with the Linksys too... as it's a switch, not a hub. I'd call this item a great value!

Summary: Elegant setup and easy-to-use
Review: I bought this item after reading a review online and I must say that I was extremely impressed! It was easy to set-up and use and I had it set to go in about 5 minutes.

The router is configured via a web browser and the instructions for use are excellent. That is if you even need to use them, you can usually use the standard setup and it will work just fine.

It comes with a built-in firewall protection and allows a multitude of advanced configuration options even DMZ (Demilitarized Zone)

It works with both standard cable modem/DSL IP configurations and PPOE setups.

Summary: what a great product
Review: This was exactly what I was looking for when I got my cable connection. Easy to set up, took 15 minutes! If a friend comes over with his computer, easy to plug them in on the network to share the connection or just swap some files. And the firewall is great for protecting my computer from the rest of the net! I love this cable router and HIGHLY recommend it.
