Summary: Poorly Run Company
Review: My router arrived not working. That wouldn't be a big deal but when I contacted Linksys for an RMA number they never got back to me. Not the first time. Not the Second time. Not the third time. Not the fourth time. Do you want service like this??? I think not.

Summary: LinkSys BEFSR11 Works great
Review: I have to say this one of the best products i have seen, I tried a lot of software solutions but each one had some problems supporting a protocol or two. But this one jsut worked out of the box, and you are up and running in less than 5 minutes.

The cool thing is that it has a tiny little webserver so you can configure the box from your desktop. Its been very realiable works. IF you have DSL wher your ISP is giving you a DHCP address and want to connect more than one computers to the internet this is a great tool.

Summary: Excellent Product
Review: I'm a Cox@Home subscriber, and my PC was the 'Server' for 2 other PC's for my kids, through an ethernet hub and the use of Wingate internet sharing software. Wingate was good, but could be temperamental at times.

This little jewel (Linksys Router) solved the problem of my PC having to be on all the time for the other two PC's to access the internet, and eliminated for a second NIC in my PC, which of course frees up resourses in my machine.

Installation was a snap, just by following the instructions. However, it took a few tries and I did have to tinker with the TCP/IP settings a little. If you have @Home cable service, on the first PC you install, you will open up your browser with the address of 192.168.1.1, and input the following data per the instructions:

1. No "Host Name" needed. 2. "Domain Name" should be set to your assigned @Home name, i.e., CX000000-X. 3. You should click "Specify an IP Address" and enter your static IP address. (if you don't know it, it should be on your @Home paperwork, or there are instructions included on how to 'ping' yourself to get it.) 4."Subnet Mask" should have automatically filled-in itself (255.255.255.0) 5.The "Default Gateway Address" I found on my Cox@Home paperwork, and it was similar but not identical to my IP address. 6."DNS(Required) 1: and 2:" were also included on my paperwork, but for Cox@Home subscribers, these items were listed as: 'primary dns server ip address' and 'sec dns server ip address'. An entry under "3:" was not required.

On #5 and 6 above, if you don't have your paperwork from your original @Home installation, you will probably have to call your provider to get the numbers.

Performance has been the same or better as before with the hub. My son does some interactive gaming on the net with some state of the art graphics and programs. No problem! Napster works fine. The added benefit of a REAL firewall is nice. "GRC.COM" doesn't know any of the 3 PC's exist! No more superfluous Black Ice or Zone Alarms hits.

I wish I'd heard about this product sooner. I read all of the other 180 or so reviews on this site before I bought it, so I had professional networking friend standing by if needed, but I did it all myself! ....

Summary: Linksys 4-Port Router Great Value
Review: I purchased the Linksys router originally because I was having troubles connecting all of my home's PCs to the cable modem via a hub. That's another issue altogether. After purchase and installation, the Linksys router was both a great asset as well as a source of headaches. It's advertised features are great; namely, the built-in Firewall, the built-in switch and hub functions; those are all great. Internet security is a big deal to me, and at about $150, the router offers the best value for the money. One of the drwbacks to the router is that the advanced features are hard to configure. Linksys' website does not do a very good job with supporting the router's advanced features. Though Linkssy says they don't support these features anyway, the complexity of the advanced features justifies improving the instructions on them. For example, if I wanted to set up an FTP server from a computer, the instructions are no vey clear on hwo to do this. If I want to set up an internet phoen call, the instructions again are mediocre at best. I relied on third party websites to try and utilize the router to it's fullest potential.

Summary: Great Product, but can be volitile
Review: Yes, the product works like magic; I plug my 4 PC's to it and in my Windows TCP settings set everything to automatic, and vola. But beaware, try not to change the router settings when there is activity on the router. What happen is that I changed from Enable DNS to disable DNS and after that, the Router hung with the red diag lights on. I called tect support and they say it is dead. So i had to return it. Good product, but be carefull. :)

Summary: Works Great!
Review: Install was quick and easy and worked well with my Road Runner Cable modem. I am running web/ftp/pcAnywhere services on one of my machines and the forwarding feature works great. I was a little concerned that I might have problems with my PPTP VPN connection to work but it also worked through the Linksys without a problem.

Summary: Update to my earlier reviews: PPPoE now works fine
Review: I had previously written reviews in early/mid July for this product. At that time I was impressed with the product but was having problems (may or may not have been related to my use of DSL and/or PPPoE with my ISP).

I have since upgraded to v1.36 of the firmware and am happy to report that I am no longer experiencing problems. My Linux machine automatically PINGs an IP address every five minutes - this is logged and I am no longer seeing outages.

So overall I give the product 4 out of 5 stars. It's a great product, but unfortunately I feel Linksys should have tested/discovered the PPPoE problems in advance. The documentation for the product could also be enhanced/improved.

Summary: Is this the Greatest?
Review: I was wondering if this item is the cable modem everyone is talking about? I have a few questions if anyone could answer these and email it to James9714@hotmail.com I would really appreciate it, thanks a lot. Heres my questions 1. Does it hook up on any computer, like a PC 2. Does it speed up internet a lot faster, for downloads and web searching, i heard you can go to fourteen websites in a mere 4 seconds, is all this true? 3. I also heard that you have to make a monthly payment on this thing, is this true too or do you just pay for the modem and that is all. Thanks a lot to whoever will email these answers to me at James9714@hotmail.com
