Summary: Works with the Macintosh and Airport!
Review: This router works great. Very easy to set up and use. It works fine with the Macintosh connected to a cable modem via Airport. No problems! If you need to update the firmware, you can do so from the Mac. Just download TFTP, which is available: http://www.mactechnologies.com/pages/download.html.

Summary: Not for Mac's
Review: I purchased the BEFSR41 for a LAN at home - to connect a couple of Macs and a PC laptop to a cable modem and ethernet network. I was unable to configure it from the instructions - which were not Mac-friendly.

Linksys Tech Support tried to help, but finally admitted that they didn't have much expertise with Mac OS, and we were unsuccessful in helping me get it to work.

I ultimately returned the Linksys router and purchased an Asante Friendlynet FR3004 for about the same price. It worked the first time, and Asante knows Macs.

If you are a Mac user, until Linksys get's more Mac oriented, I'd recommend that you consider another product.

Summary: Lemon
Review: This router is a lemon. If you need to use PPPoE, which is techspeak for dial-up DSL, don't use this router. It is supposed to reconnect you if your provider drops the line, but instead, it hangs the router, and you need to pull the power plug and put it back in again to make it start working. It may be cheap, but it's faulty.

Summary: Good router, bad company
Review: This router was excellent, when it WORKED (the first 2 weeks) and ebfore I had to deal with the tech support for a replacement (another month or so). This was the least professional group I had ever dealt with. Good luck.

Summary: Great product - could use very minor improvements
Review: I have been using this product for a few months now. One of the nicest things about it is how easy it is to set up. I did not have a Windows machine when I first got my DSL and my EtherFast Cable/DSL Router, only a Linux machine. This did not matter however, since the device has an internal web server that is used for setup I just started a browser and set it up from there (this web server is only accessable from the internal network of course).

The device lets you forward IP ports to the machines on your internal network so you can run services that are accessable to the internet (like ftp, or http). You can give the router a port number and an IP address. Any requests to that port are forwarded to the same port on the machine who's IP address is specified. This brings us to the only reasons I do not give this product five stars. 1) You cannot forward a request to a different port on an internal machine. In other words, if an outside user requests port 80, you cannot forward the request to port 2000 on an internal machine, it must be port 80. 2) Also, there are only 10 ports that can be forwarded. I am already using four of them (2 web servers, an ftp server, and Napster). I might run out.

Summary: This router is amazing!
Review: I have purchased this product and it has worked like a charm. I alos use the @home network of cable modems. I have 2 PC's networked through it and have not run into any problems. Both computers can be using Napster and/or Scour simultaniously with no performance degredation. After installing the BIOS update from Linksys Both computers have been able to play online games such as HalfLife, Quake3, and UnrealTournament. Both computers can be on and playing these games at the same time. Upload speeds are slow, but that is an issue with the cable modem and noe the router. All in all this router is an excellent peice of equipment.

Summary: Easy to set-up
Review: I found this a very straightforward set-up. Though I am just venturing into LAN territory, the instructions were self-explanatory and the browser interface was easy to understand. Would highly recommend it.

Summary: Good and fast, but gamers beware.
Review: It's easy to setup, does what it's suppose to do, but it is a hassle for gamers. Two people on your network can't log on to the same internet game at the same time. Certain games will permit this if you are familiar with setting it up; I could not get this to work. Game loads were seriously slowed down also. File transfer programs like Napster and MSN Messager were also hindered with uploads. Downloads appeared to work as normal, but uploading through the firewall was stopped. No matter how many adjustments I tried, I could not get it to work. The firewall is secure to keep your network hidden, but as a gamer it's not worth the hassle. I'm switching to a 5 port switch.

Summary: Great alternative to Windows Internet Connection Sharing
Review: I recently purchased this product because I was having trouble with Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing after upgrading to Windows ME.

I was very pleased with the simplicity of setting up this router. I already have 3 computers connected to a hub, with this router I simply replaced the hub, plugged in the line coming from the cable modem and called my serivice provider to tell them I needed to provision a new MAC address. I was up and running in under 10 minutes.

I have heard stories that cable companies do not want you using these. I guess the trick is not telling them what you are doing. The good news is they cannot determine what you are using other than it is a Linksys product.

Summary: Excellent, easy to install, and forget it!
Review: This is one of the best documented, easiest to use solutions I have ever seen for using a DSL line with multiple computers. It practically configures itself. My DSL provider couldn't help me get my NT machine configured to use their line. Using this device, my NT machine now works fine. Now the NT and my Win98 machine both have DSL access at the same time. I'm planning to ad a Linux machine soon. It actually seems to have improved the performance of my DSL line, even when both machines are downloading files at the same time. Built-in firewall protection is a bonus.
