Summary: Easy to set up
Review: I am a novice when it comes to computers. When I wanted to link both of my PC's to a cable modem I was a little worried that I would screw things up. This thing was so easy all I had to do was plug the thing in and hook the cables up. I still am having trouble getting 100mbps on the second computer but it may be the network card. If you have a cable modem, I wouldn't hesitate. Anything else... I'm not sure about.

Summary: 0 stars for PPPoE and 5 Stars for the rest
Review: I had chances to install the one port version (BEFSR11) on both 25 user network and my home. Basically, this is an Ethernet to Ethernet router. This is 5 star product on the NON-PPPoE connection. Unfortunately, I want to share my experience here on setting up the PPPoE DSL connection. I am using Bell Simpatico High Speed ADSL connection in Toronto. First time, I had a test router with firmware 1.2x on it. I tested that for a weekend. It was not workable on PPPoE. After upgrade to version 1.30, I can regain the connection by rebooting the router (unplug and replug). I thought this was OK for home network if that happened once a day. At that time, I did not buy one for home and just want to wait for newer firmware update. Once I saw the version 1.34 came out. I bought one and restructured my home network with 5 PCs. Everything looks OK at beginning. Sometimes, it was disconnected when two people were surfing the Web. I just rebooted the router. I could bear with that. But, one thing I can not stand is that it froze when I attach a document in hotmail. Think about when you compose an email and attach something, you are kicked off the internet. You have to reboot the router and start all over. It is not guaranteed not being cut the second time. It happened quite often.... Then I started looking for alternative. Now I am using Netgear RT311 at home. It's been a month. I did not do any upgrade on it. It has a web based interface, too. It looks more like a ROUTER. It never gives me problem. It's a little expensive and hard to get in Toronto. If your ISP uses DSL with PPPoE and considering this router, please look up their web site and check the firmware upgrade readme file, to see if any major update on PPPoE after version 1.34. Summary: Very simple to setup and use DSL/Cable Routers/HUB/Switch
Review: When LinkSys decided to create a cheap, easy to use box for broadband users, they did not slack off in any way. You can configure everything via a browser so OS doesn't create any problems. I use Linux personally. My setup was as follows. Hook all my systems to LinkSys box. Plug WAN port into Cable Modem. Bingo, I was done. The LinkSys automatically got an IP address and started passing traffic through. All broadband users should get one of theses. It is the cost of a good hub and saves you the annoyance of setting up NAT or IP Masqurading yourself. Good buy!

Summary: Minor Problems with Easy fixes
Review: I purchased my router after many long, pull my hair out hours of trying to get all my systems on the internet WITHOUT having to change connections on my DSL. The instructions were easy to follow and in no time I was internet capable with all my pc's. ONLY one small problem. I found that I could not talk between pc's. The router doesn't like pc's with firewall software on them and running at the same time and I wasn't about to uninstall the soft-firewall from my laptop. The fix was to set each pc's protocols to NetBUEI, this did many things for me. It made my systems more secure (no longer did I have personal information going on the net without my knowledge, at least that's what Norton and Steve Gibsons sites say), and I can talk between pc's with soft-firewalls running. My complaint is Linksys's failure to address this type of issue, the only thing I found was a tech page on the net informing to remove any soft-firewalls.

Summary: Good features at a good price
Review: This is an easy to install and maintain component. The DHCP server is more than adequate for home or small office use and the ability to allocate one of the enet ports to the public side of the firewall is very nice. If you are going to use VPN you need to make sure you have the latest software upgrade from their website and you need to activate IPSec passthru. I find it a little buggy with my wireless home network, though. But a quick IPO reset and it's working again.

Summary: Works great, no problems.
Review: Plugged it in, set it up, it's worked fine ever since. No trouble, no hassle, haven't bothered with the firmware upgrades. The address translation is seamless and neither the network-based or traditional *nix portscanning tools have uncovered any holes or vulnerabilities. The web-based setup tool works very nicely.

Summary: Fantastic product
Review: It is everything as advertised. More importantly, it supports IPSec now. I can use it for VPN. Simple to use, easy to configure, and yet so cheap. It comes with proxy, DHCP and firewall plus 4 10/100 full-duplex switched ports. A must have for DSL or cable modem users. I strongly recommend it.

Review: This is an excellent product. I had no problem with the set up and it is a must have for anyone with a DSL or Cable modem connection. The 4 port 10/100 switch, Firewall, and internet connection sharing capabilities are perfect for the home user who would like to set up a small network or just have internet sharing among PC's. This works much better than a software sharing solution and is secure.

Summary: We were surprised how Easy this was.
Review: We recently purchased a Linksys 4 port Ethernet Router. We really thought we would have to hire someone to install this, but much to our surprise we did it right on the first try. We are thrilled to say the least about this product. Only wish we would have done this sooner, the cable internet works great on our second computer. Thanks Linksys!

Summary: perfect solution for internet sharing - cable or dsl
Review: My home network is accomodated perfectly by this product. I run 3+ computers on my home network; one of which I like to run Linux on occasionally. I was using allaboard internet sharing software (which is awesome for a windows network, but restrics speed, uses ram on the host computer, and does not support Linux connections). Setting up the Linksys router took me literally 5 minutes and my cable connection is shared efficiently via DHCP. Exactly what I needed.
