Summary: JWJewell
Review: This is the best item for the money you can buy to share your cable modem connection with more than one computer. Out of the box it worked perfectly with four different computers in my house, two with Windows Me, one with Windows 2000, and another with Windows NT 4.0. I have never had such a carefree installation of a single piece of computer hardware. You can also plug your present network hub into it and keep adding more to it as you go along, so it is almost infinitely expandable. It sets it up so you only have to buy and pay for one cable modem connection, a considerable savings for me with Road Runner charging ten dollars more for each computer connected up to the system. The cable guy who installed my cable system and modem chatted with me honestly and said all of the guys in his shop say that this is the best unit for this type of set up you can buy, and I believe them all. He said, "We are supposed to tell customers that this thing won't work so they buy more connections, but I don't owe the company anything." If you have not surfed with a fast connection like cable you do not yet understand what the Net is and need to find out. It will change your perspective on everything.

Summary: Worth the money
Review: This is what I call plug and play. I am using it in Montterey, Mexico. I wasnt really sure that it will work but it did. Initially we solve the connectivity problems of our branch office in the city, at a very low cost. Now I have it at my soho.

Summary: Poor customer service....Do not buy
Review: Bought the 8 port Linksys at a store. Was excited to hook up a few pc's to share a dsl connection. Could not get it to work.... called tech support, only to wait approximately 45 minutes to get disconnected. Called back, waited another 45 minutes to finally to talk to a tech. This tech was very rude and inconsiderate, he gave advice on what to try...I wanted to try it while I was on the phone with him, especially after waiting 45 minutes but he was insistant on go onto the next call. He told me if I had problems to call back since they are open 24 hours. I told him if I had problems after he gave me his advice that I would return it because I felt as though he was trying to push me off the phone. His advice did not work. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Bought a NETGEAR RT314 had it running up in 5 minutes after talking to tech support. Also, they were very friendly and cooperative.

Summary: Easy and Simple
Review: This router is extremely simple to set up, I just plugged it in to my cable modem and a pc and in minutes was up and running. I spend 10 times the setup time in reading the instructions, but getting it working was simple. There was absolutely no need to go into the setup to connect to the internet (although I had to contact AT&T as they lock the connection to a mac address on the network card).

I have two computers networked using this and they use a full 100MBs, transporting data has never been this fast before. I still have two ports open for future use, and if I wanted more there is a wan port that I could use to set additional machines via another router, this devices supports up to 256 unique devices through its ports and wan connection.

Summary: Short and sweet ...
Review: ... this is _the_ way to hook multiple computers to a broadband modem! Installation is simple (my three-computer system installation flew "as was" with no modifications required whatsoever!), and operation is transparent to the user. This system, coupled with ZoneAlarm -- the freeware version will suffice [UPATE 1/21/2002: no it won't, if you need to control open ports created by file-sharing apps; spring for ZoneAlarm PRO, you'll be glad you did! -- jct] -- will protect your home network from all "bad access" known to date. This router should be considered a critical resource to any home network, or to any system that maintains an "open" web connection!

Summary: Outstanding price/performance value. Setup a snap
Review: This was my first experience with a DSL connection and in setting up a network. The Linksys documentation is clear and precise and everything was up and running in just a few minutes. I never expected that I could find one product that would provide a high speed network, DSL sharing, and firewall protection for such a modest price. In a word I'm "impressed"!

Summary: Excellent product that runs seamlessly
Review: This is a great item for those who want to share a cable or dsl connection (that's what I have). I have four computers connected to mine. I'm using different network interface cards and different speed computers but things have worked without a hitch for 6 months.

The built-in PPOE support is crucial. I was always having problems with PPOE prior to installing the router.

One minor comment - I have to reset the router every day or so to get things to work right. But this takes a matter of 45 seconds to complete. I don't know if it's the router or the DSL connection (probably the DSL connection).

Summary: Great solution for high speed home networking
Review: I just purchased the Linksys BEFSR41 Router and it has exceeded my expectations. I have an annoying PPPoE (Pacbell DSL), and now with my new router, I don't have to log into "EnterNet 300" anymore. In addition, I not only get the flexibility of having two computers and a printer all connected together, but as a bonus, I now have a firewall! All this for (this price)? What a bargain. I will say it was a tad bit complicated to set up, but once you get the hang of it, it's awesome!
