Summary: Mac users beware!
Review: This router is fine if you are only running windows machines. However if you have a hybrid network stay far away from this product. The manual and linksys themselves are no help when it comes to setting up a macintosh for use with this router. It can be problematic to say the least.

Summary: Easy to install, works great
Review: Previously I owned a 4-port hub that I used to share a Cable modem with 3 computers. This meant mucking with configuration changes to each machine and also waiting on my ISP to set up multiple IP addresses for these extra machines to use. Even then my ISP consistently managed to forget to provide those IP addresses (sort of like 'keys' to connect to the internet) and my other computers would be down for couple of days while my ISP got around to fixing the problem.I was concerned that setting up a router would be much more difficult than just plugging in a hub. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the installation instructions were easy to follow and worked well. The software provided to configure this product is HTML-based, which means that if you know how to surf, you know this software. In addition to allowing you to share one internet connection amongst many computers, this router also offers features to make is work like a firewall (something that helps keep hackers out of your computers). On other benefit that isn't emphasized enough is that via Windows, you will be able to set up your new network to share printers, scanners, hard drives, etc. I use this product with desktops, laptops, and my Pocket PC and all worked well. Be sure that you check with your ISP to see if using a router to share your connection is covered by your agreement. Also, if you ever need to get techical support from your ISP, you'll need to first bypass this router as most ISPs will want to ensure that the problem isn't with your new network.

Summary: EZ to setup - Watch out for advanced features
Review: The Linksys router was easy to setup as the entire management software is web-based. (including the advanced features, so you do not have to telnet into the box). I have few machines behind the firewall some with dynamic addressing, other with static configuration. VPN once setup properly (no enabled by default on the router), works great, but I read you can only have one VPN connection at a time which can be a limitation. VPN is mostly used nowadays to access corporate servers using your Internet connection. So if you have two machines that need to access your Corporate at the same time on two different companies (yours and your spouse if you work from home), you won't be able to do so. If you need some technical support on advanced features, be careful, linksys web site says Linksys provides no phone or e-mail support for the advanced features of the router.

Summary: Don't Buy the BEFSR41 if you xDSL provider is Bell South
Review: I had hell with the thing. It worked great for the first 3 weeks then downhill. Amazon shipped me a replacement, Linksys said that it was bad also. Finally, after dealing with their aweful and I mean aweful tech support, Linksys told me that they had issues with Bell South. I am still waiting for their high level tech support to call me back after 5 days of waiting. I download Sygate and NO problems.

Summary: Works and installs like all equipment SHOULD!
Review: Already had two computers running Windows 98SE via 10/100 network interface cards and a 4 port hub. When I had DSL installed, I could surf on one or the other computer, but not at the same time. Did not make much sense to have a broadband access and only use one computer. Now several members of the family can surf on the computers, simultaniously, at 1.5Mbps. Removed my old 10/100mbps 4 port hub and replaced it with the Linksys hub/router. Standard Windows 98 software and network interface cards in each computer is all that is required (use 10/100 cards to get the full effect of the broadband speeds). Attach the external DSL modem to the Lynksys router, and follow the straight forward instructions. Very simple! You even get to get rid of the pathetic Enternet300 software (PPoE) that comes with the DSL access as it is already built into the router! The DSL people do not like to tell you that your broadband can be shared . . . . . . One benifit that I did not count on was that a very effective firwall was part of the hardware. With the hardware firewall and Norton Internet 2000 on each of the computers, it is bullet proof! Internet based snoop-ware does not even show that there is a computer on this line! Very important when running an "always on" DSL connection (Norton has caught several cases of "Back Oriface" trying to get at my computers . . but no dice!) This is the way all hardware should install.

Summary: This is one of the most amazing products...
Review: I have dealt with real routers and firewalls for business applications, and when I heard about this thing I thought it would either do nothing, or be far too dificult for an average user to setup. I ended up suggesting it to a very small business that I do some occasional contract work for. This device is simply outstanding. If you know nothing about networking you can set this thing up and make it work, and if you know anything more than nothing you'll find it extremely powerful. You can run public servers, make your network stealth to the Internet, and do full routing functions. Amazing, I couldn't believe it. OK, it's not a full-fledged firewall. It is limited, but for a very small busines, or home user this is an excelent sollution as spending $$$ just for the firewall portion is probably not an option. The other great thing is with 4-ports it doubles as a hub. I doubt most home users need more than four ports. So this could very well be the sollution for every home Internet user in America.

Summary: OK for Cable not for SNET DSL
Review: I cannnot get router to work with SNET DSL. Linksys NEVER NEVER EVER answers the phone. If I ever have to buy a DSL router again, I will buy something else.

Summary: The standard for home Cable/DSL routers....
Review: The Linksys is a dependable, easy to use product. It took me about 30 minutes (including downloading firmware upgrades) to get my four computers on the Internet. I was able to unload my DSL PPPOE software and personal firewall (although, for the most protection you can run ZoneAlarm along with the Linksys firewall). Everyone I know recommends this product. The only thing lacking, in my opinion, is a print server component, like the Asante and SMC Cable/DSL routers.

Summary: Accuracy a plus
Review: I have a friend who bought one, he loves it. My note is for the "Editor" - FYI... A T-1 runs at EXACTLY 1.544Mbps, with 1.536Mbps being the usable bandwidth for data. It doesn't "max out between 1.5 and 3Mbps".

Review: I installed this router to network a couple of computers in my home. Installation was a snap and it works GREAT. I highly reccomend this router to anyone of any computer experience level.
