Summary: CK - I bought this a month ago
Review: This is a very good box. It replaces the NTS software(EnterNet100 software -- required if you are just hooking your DSL modem to your network card) and is MUCH faster than the software. It also doles out IP addresses to my two machines. I had initial problems because it was not clear that I needed a cat 5 CROSSOVER cable between my DSL modem and this box. Once I used that, and removed the PPPoE software from my two machines, I could connect. DSL is great -- out in my little suburb of Atlanta I am getting 1,150 kbps down and 210kbps up. For you folks in Palm Beach, thats 15 to 17 times faster than a 56k dial-up connection. It's teriffic to be always connected. This box shares my connection and gives me a measure of security. You need hardware protection if you are using DSL or cable modem.

The Linksys support folks are good, but you can't be in a hurry. The one time I called them, they had a 5 to 7 hour backlog. If you really want to get fancy, the configuration software also lets you program some packet filtering. I haven't investigated that yet.

Summary: Very poor support
Review: So far I've called three times and sent one email. It has been four business days. Just got a phone mail message to call back if I still have problems. Support is not acceptable.

The product performs as advertised, relatively easy to setup. My problem is that it went braindead at 6 months

Summary: Great product - even better price
Review: This is an extremely useful and a easy-to-us product. I'm not a networking expert and I was able to plug this router into my DSL gateway, hook up my PCs, set up the firewall and I was protected and happy in no time.

Summary: Reliable and fast - Awesome!
Review: Just set up this Linksys router along with a Westell Ethernet DSL modem to network 3 PCs and it works a treat!

Setup is easy - just use your browser to view the configuration screens and setup your ISP parameters - you'll be up and running in a couple of minutes! Connections through all PCs on my home network are fast and reliable.

Used to have an Efficient networks USB DSL modem and used Wingate software to share the internet connection - it worked but was VERY unreliable, most of the time I was rebooting every 10 mins. Now with the new modem and the Linksys router it has been 100% reliable.

Summary: Excellent for Home Use... Horrible for Power Users
Review: For home use, this Linksys router is a lifesaver. It's quick, easy, and has extensive firewall controls. However, the ports are limited in speed for broadband sharing to 5 megabits per second. In network speeds, it can accomodate 100 megabits per computer. However, the cheap NAT processing software is horrible for hosting. For 3D games, the NAT processing unit produces strange graphics and lots of latency. I heard a few beta firmware upgrades can cure this problem, but I haven't tried any out yet since it's still a beta. If you host files or games, go with the Netgear RT314, if you surf and like to share broadband, go with the Linksys. Linksys has one of the best NIC's and PCMCIA cards, easy-to-use hubs, but their routers are a little shady.

Summary: Save time/buy Router
Review: After numberous different hardware, Hubs, Switches, ect... with no results, I was directed to use a Linksys router. I could have saved myself alot of time if I had tied the router first. After plugging in my ADSL, I expected to be kicked offline in a matter of seconds. But to my surprise, it worked!! Easiest application so far. I did have to wait one hour on hold for Tech Support to talk me though hooking up the other PCs on my network, but it was worth the wait. The Tech was humerous and patient. So spend the extra money for the Router, it's alot less than another ADSL modem plus monthly fees.

Summary: works fine, but
Review: the router works perfectly. But only after fixing a bug with the firmware, (it stopped working and it had to be reset to connect again). I recommend that if you buy this product, you download the latest firmware upgrade located in the linksys website. Other than that hassle, the router works perfectly.

Summary: Simple and Easy to do
Review: This router is by far the easiest and fast router to set up and maintain I have ever seen.

As a small business I could not afford to hire anybody to visit and assist with my networking needs.

The LinkSys router was a God send.

Summary: Poor technical support
Review: I purchased a BEFSR41 in December 2000. To date I have yet been able to talk with a rep at linksys technical service. If I do succeed at getting through voice mail an operator takes my name and number and tells me that a tech person will return my call. To date, nobody has ever returned my calls. The unit works but locks up every 30 minutes when used with internet tunneling s/w. Uploaded 1.37 and problem still exists. Not a good experience.

Summary: Linksys four port router for dsl is great!
Review: I had two bad linksys 1-port routers with my own hub until I finally caved and shelled out the extra cash for a Four port model. It works wonderfully, is easy to setup, and is really quiet. I have tried calling tech support which usually results in a 30-40 minute wait on hold. However, since they clain that it's "24 hour" support, you can call at the odd hour and get a quicker response. Uses a "web page" interface to set up so it's easier than the other text based ones. An easy and quick way to set up a network, especially to share your dsl!
