Summary: I bought a lemon
Review: This router is great, it works like it is supposed to and is super easy to set up. It worked for about 2 days, then lights started flashing and now the thing is fried and not coming back! :-(

Summary: Great Router, go get it from Best Buy
Review: This is most definately the best router you can get. I got home and plugged it into my cable modem and it worked great. The web based administration is so easy to use. I can play online games like Half-Life online on multiple computers and still have great lag. Even if you only have one computer on at a time the built in firewall works like a charm. The price here right now is 130 and they're selling used ones for 100. Don't bother, get one for 100 from Best Buy.

Summary: Good for Sharing A Broadband internet connection
Review: This is a good product for sharing my ATT BROADBAND CABLE MODEM CONNECTION. I think this product was worth while. Set up would have been easy if I had all the right information in the first place. However, I didn't, but when I downloaded the latest firmware upgrade, and cloned my MAC address to fool my isp, it worked like a charm.

Summary: Frequent power-offs required
Review: I liked this router initially, as setup was easy and the html interface to all the features was really nice.

Then, it started...my network connection would just go away...I looked in vain at my software applications and then finally figured out that it was the router. I had to powerdown then power back up the router, then it would work again for a while.

I called Linksys tech support and after finally getting through, I was told to reinstall Windows 2000 and that would solve the problem.

I took another tack and bought a NetGear RT314. The NetGear isn't nearly as pretty, and anything beyond simple setup requires you to Telnet into the router (instead of using a Web interface), but....but....but....it has run and run and run and run and I've never had to touch it. I've never had to power it down once.

IT JUST WORKS!

So, avoid the Linksys and get a NetGear

Summary: Good solution for someone with high speed internet
Review: I got this router to share my internet access between numerous computers in my house. I have heard many people complain about Linksys' tech support, which is certainly a problem, but the router has worked perfectly for me. I followed the directions, set it up, and I have never had to touch it in the 9 months I have owned it. It has never once malfunctioned. It gets the job done and is a great bargain.

Summary: Simple, reliable, and replaces PacBell client software
Review: I first started looking for a router in part to share a connection at home but also because the PacBell (SBC) client software (Enternet) would periodically cause my machine to reboot. PacBell technical support is a total waste of breath, so I decided that anything that eliminated their client would be worth a try!

I first tried the 1-port version of the same product but had a lot of problems. It arrived with an old version of the ROM (1.30), but even after a (painful) upgrade to a later version, the router would periodically "go to sleep" for several minutes for no apparent reason, with not even the admin server responding. I returned it and decided to try the 4-port instead, and have been delighted ever since. A minimum of configuration (PacBell ADSL requires certain parameters including PPPoE configuration) and it has been up and running continuously for several weeks now. The Keep Alive option means that I get instant response even when I have been offline for a few hours, and best of all - no more reboots due to crummy PacBell software!

One caution, however: if you do need to call LinkSys, be prepared for a long wait on hold, before you get to talk to an admittedly well-informed and helpful techie.

Summary: Not a good gaming platform
Review: I purchased the Linsys not really knowing anything about homenetworking or sharing a broadband connection. That was about a year ago. Since then I've become very knowledgeable on the subject. I've tested several Routers and just yesterday replaced my Linksys router with a SMC Barricade 4 port wireless router. The Linksys performed well if you are only interested in basic connectivity and ease of setup. However, it is not good for online gaming for the simple reason that it will randomly kick you off of various servers. Its transfer speeds are nothing to boast about, either. I've been using the SMC for only a few hours now, and I am already amazed at the difference in speed from the two routers. If you are looking for basic connectivity and ease of setup and use, then this is your model. But if you want value for your dollar, I suggest you look elsewhere. This is only a medicore router.

Summary: A must-have for internet sharing!
Review: Before purchasing this product, I had to buy additional IP addresses from my ISP in order to share my cable internet access. Even after buying these additional addresses, I was not able to connect more than 2 computers to the internet at the same time. This product solved all of my problems immediately after being hooked up.

The Linksys BEFSR41 is VERY simple to hook up, and not only does the router enable you to connect up to 99 computers (even though it has only 4 ports, you can connect the others by daisy-chaining NIC cards), it also allows you to easily network all of your home or small-office computers. Additionally, the router offers NAT protection, which keeps your computers from being accessible to prowlers on the internet.

If you intend to share broadband internet access, or simply want to build a small network, this product is a must-have. It is the simple, hassle-free answer to your network problems.

Summary: Great Product
Review: This is one of the most easiest things to install and setup. I currently have 4 PC connected and don't see any slow down when surfing. Downloads files without errors. Acts as Fire Wall. I even tested it on .... . OVER ALL this was the best investment I ever made for PC network at home.
