Summary: Working product; lousy manual
Review: The thing itself works fine, and is especially useful if you have ADSL (no need to "login" every time you want to establish a connection; it does it for you). A nice user interface when you get to it. However, the manual is completely indecipherable. If you are depending on it to help, you're out of luck. Also, it says *nothing* about MACs although of course the product works equally with MAC, IBM-clone or any other thing that has an Ethernet connection.Summary: buy it if you understand these things, or have a friend who does. Otherwise, buy something with a good manual.

Summary: Nice product but DSL users need additional info in manual
Review: This router is great once set up but some simple additional information in the manual would have saved me time when setting it up. I have DSL through SBC Pacific Bell and the Enternet software it uses to connect requires you to "logon" with a username and password (sort of like dialing in without having to dial in). If you have this same way of getting online through your DSL, you'll have to authenticate through the Router after you install it and not through the Enternet software - meaning you'll need to put in your username and password when configuring the router. After you connect the cables, type 192.168.1.1 into the browser to type in your username and password - and don't forget to check the PPPoE box! This may be second nature to more advanced users but the manual doesn't mention this. In fact, you can delete your Enternet software altogether (I'd recommend uninstalling it before you connect and power up your router). As a beginner, I didn't know this and spent a frustrating hour trying to connect through the normal DSL Enternet software. However, after it was set up, it worked flawlessly and is a great way all your computers working on the same DSL connection. Customer service from Linksys is OK, but like most tech support, trying to explain my problem to an undertrained rep who didn't seem to care much made me want to pull my hair out.

Summary: Extremely easy to use!
Review: I'm a novice to networking and wasn't exactly sure how this was going to work. I have two computers and have a cable internet connection. I've been using the cable internet on just one computer but I wanted to have it on both but with just 1 IP ADDRESS. Mainly wanted it across 1 IP address for 2 reasons: first of all, my cable provider wouldn't issue me a 2nd IP and if they did it'd cost me [amt]/month. So here's what I did: I got the router, plugged the cable modem into the WAN port on the router and then connected both computers to port's 1 and 2 on the router. Included with the router is a website address to visit to configure the router. I visited that site and entered my computer name (host name provided by cable provider) and then selected Obtain IP address automatically. I also made sure DHCP was enabled and it was and I then pressed Save Changes. Then all you have to do is unplug and then plug back in your router (DO NOT RESET IT OR IT'LL LOSE CHANGES) and then configure each computer (in network properties) to obtain IP address automatically (that's it you don't have to enter your host name again) and you're done! With this one router you can link up to 4 computers and run them all off 1 cable connection and just 1 IP Address! I love this router and while I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to set it up or not (because I'm new to networking) - I didn't have a problem at all! Thanks Linksys!

Review: after almost 3 years working with different proxy server programs, none of them gave me the transparency, easy config and compatibility with my games and applicattions that my linksys does.

Summary: Great Value for a Powerful Peice of hardware
Review: I just bought one of these puppies for christmas and it works great. Upgraded the firmware, faked the mac address and it even saved the same ip from the cable mso around here. The added option of the 100baseT signalling for local networking makes it a whole lot faster than the hub i was using before. Port mapping is a breeze, currently im running, IIS,CVS,IDENTD,SSH,REMOTE DESKTOP for mapped services. The built in dhcp server had no problem working with my freebsd 4.4 server either. Overall for the price i'd totally recommend this product. only thing they could improve is the stateful part and the forwarding should have more spaces eg fill up em all and there's a scrollbox or something.. i think this is a limitation of the config dialog (havnt tried hacking in a fake submit or nething). As for the "Zone Alarm" kickin. It's really just serial number spyware for Zone Labs and is totally useless. That part of the firmware update bothered me. but that's all. Overall this is a good buy for the price.

Review: It took me two minutes to set it up and one minute to configure.
I'm using earthlink DSL, so I just enabled the PPPOE option. All you need is your earthlink user name and password. That's all, easy and fast. At user end, you might need to configure your internet browser to connect the internet via LAN.

Summary: Very easy to setup....no headaches.
Review: I was very impressed with the Linksys Router. I did nothing more than plug my cable modem into the router and plug my pc's to the router. Everything came up perfectly without any headaches, special effort. The default settings worked perfectly and all my pc's in my house were up on the net sharing the single cable modem.

Summary: Very pleased with my Linksys BEFSR41
Review: My Linksys BEFSR41 4 Port Cable/DSL Router was very easy to hook up and install. I am connected to a cable modem and two computers and am planning on connecting another computer to it for the grandchildren. I've been using it 3 months with no problems at all. I don't believe I could have made a better choice!
