Summary: How could anyone......
Review: give this product a bad rating. I installed it and had it up and running in under 5 minutes. It doesn't get any easier than this. I have installed an SMC and US Robotics equipment on other peoples computers and they were not nearly as easy to get up and running.

Summary: Incredibly easy to set up and maintain
Review: I couldn't be happier with this product. It has lived up to all of the good reviews and then some.For me it was literally a drop in replacement for a hub. I unplugged this hub, plugged in the Linksys router and everything worked. It doesn't get easier than that. Of course, most people are going to want to configure the router a bit. No problem, the web interface makes it simple. Just open up your browser and point it at the router's IP address. You are presented with a set of web pages that allow you to configure all of the router's settings. If you need to run a server or two it takes no time to open ports through the web interface. On the downside, there are some inconsistencies between the router's documentation and the Linksys website documentation. For example, one set of documentation says that DHCP must be disabled if you are going to use port forwarding. Another says the opposite. As it turns out, DHCP works fine with port forwarding. Overall, this router is a great addition to your home network. It will allow you to share a single broadband connection without purchasing additional IP addresses and provide enhanced security through its firewall features.

Summary: Great product for home networking.
Review: I bought this item a few days ago and it is great. Both my laptop and desktop can access the DSL line. Plus, I setup my laptop to share the desktop printer. I think it is a great product and has saved me some time.

Summary: Steer Clear - Great Product, Terrible Support
Review: We have DLS service at home hooked up to our home PC. For the last year I have been bringing home my work laptop and dialing up using the phone line. Someone at work suggested a DSL router and I finally got one. What a super product it is. I am now able to connect my work laptop at DSL speed without having my wife remind me every 10 minutes to get off the phone line because the mother-in-law is going to call! The installation was a mess. The product arrived with an installation wizard CD and a flyer that said "use the wizard". So I did. It blew up half way through and I had to fumble through the manual. Eventually it was set up and once it was, it worked like a charm...for about three weeks when it abruptly stopped working. But that was just the start of my troubles. I called Linksys tech support. Spent two hours with three different support persons over two days. Each time someone from "customer concern" was going to call me back but never did. Each time I had to repeat all the previous conversations as none of the tech specialists made notes or if they did there appeared to be no way for the next one to access them. Each tech support bad mouthed the other one. They could not fix the problem. On top of that they were rude and did their best to make me feel stupid. Not exactly a happy customer experience. After the third tech support person could not help me, he swore up and down that a tech supervisor would call within two hours to help me. That was three days ago. Have not heard from them yet. So I boxed up the product and shipped it back. For a while I wowed not to have anything to do with the DSL router. But it's just such a great product. So based upon some of their other reviews, I am getting the NetGear router. Bottom line, this is a fantastic product and a must have if you have DSL or cable modem access and have to use more than one computer. However, based upon my experiences I'd recommend you steer clear of Linksys and check out some of the other makers.

Summary: they are still selling version 1???
Review: version 2 (BEFSR41 v2) has been out for at least 9 months. If the information is wrong and this is really version 2, then its a good deal. otherwise find a version 2 elsewhere

Summary: A no brainer
Review: We finally went with broadband cable access and wanted to share the cable between an iMac and a Dell. I hooked everything up to a Linksys modem and router using Cat-5 cables and hit the power switch. That was it. The router pulled the IP addresses and we were on line in less than 10 minutes. I would suggest using a network card as the USB install seemed rather complex. I have no complaints with the router or modem.

Summary: Networked in less than 10 minutes!
Review: The hardest part about installing and configuring my home network was getting my Cat5 cables from the PC upstairs to the router, Cable modem, and PC downstairs! After I got that done, I was on the internet surfing in less than 10 minutes. The Quick Installation guide was all I needed, mainly for configuring the router. The default settings work just fine. This is excellent for the newbie networker!

Review: I literally opened the box, plugged in the cat5 cables and was up and running within minutes. I am using VPN without problems. If you only get a single IP from your broadband provider (as is the case with Cox Cable), then this is a good selection.

Summary: One awesome little machine!
Review: I don't think I can come up with anything really bad to say about this cool router. I have two of them, and know a networking guy here in town who uses them a lot for small businesses and home installations, and it is impressive. It not only has a built-in firewall to protect your connected devices, but it also saves you money on getting extra IP addresses from your high-speed 'net connection provider... And it lets you share your printers/files at a full 200Mbps if your network cards support Full Duplex (otherwise you'll top out at a whopping 100Mbps on the LAN side :-) The web-based configuration is very nice, if you have problems or are missing a feature, check the Linksys website for firmware updates. They've added many new features in the new version, made older ones more flexible, and added advanced login methods for different types of fast internet connections and so on. The port-forwarding options help if you're trying to run a server or connect to certain sites, and the DMZ feature is good for some games and stuff (but please run a firewall on the DMZ'd computer!). I've had mine since they were the only ones out, but the nice thing about the Linksys routers is that they've combined them into all kinds of network "bridges" as well. This is the basic model, which is just awesome for a simple, wired network. But if you want the same thing plus a wireless access point, they have that, too. Or with a USB connection rather than just Ethernet. Or with phoneline or powerline networking. So whatever networking combination solution you need, Linksys probably has a router for you! It's been my favorite brand for quite a while, and I'll probably stick to it until something that's this cheap with the high-quality value comes along in another brand (I sure haven't found it so far!).
