Summary: Eventually locks up, buy a Nexland or Netgear instead.
Review: The BEFSR11 (1-port) and BEFSR41 (4-port) are great when they work, but are notorious for having a bug that they will eventually lock up hard and not work. Resets and flashes often even will not fix them.

Read the hardware forums at dslreports for more on this. Dozens of people have reported the same problems, and Linksys typically has denied it. I thought I'd be spared, but it happened to me. After about 10 failed attempts, I managed to flash it to newer firmware. It worked for about a month, then locked up tight.

Buy a better brand. I wanted to like this; I use all Linksys network cards, hubs and switches and swear by them. But the routers, I swear AT them.

Summary: If I can do it, so can YOU!!
Review: THINKING about networking the computers was harder than doing it! Linksys made it all SOOOO easy. I might begin by telling you that I know NOTHING about computers or networking! This is as close to plug and play as you get. Windows XP did the set up for me. In ten minutes I had 3 computers (2 desktops and a laptop) all hooked up and running at once. I am VERY impressed!!

Summary: Router [is really good]
Review: This router [is really really good] and handles everything I have thrown at it, from 2 comps on home network playing online with a ping of less than 50 at the same time 2 other computers downloading from web at 150k + @sec (the most I can get from my cable co)

Summary: Very easy to install
Review: Working from home is great!... When you need a router to supply the cable modem line to two computers the only way to go is the Linksys BEFSR41! I waited 2 weeks after I got the router to install it. I was waiting for a technical friend of my husbands to install it for me...tired of waiting I opened the box, knew I needed some cables... and hooked it right up... the only thing that I didn't know was that I needed to call our ISP to do something on their side... otherwise, I was up on running on both computers with cable modem in 15 minutes. Awesome!

Summary: As good as "they" say...
Review: `
For most internet service providers, all you have to do is plug it between your cable or DSL modem and your PC and its ready.
`
I currently have only one machine using a cable modem connection and chose this router as a hardware firewall - with a view to future networking. My service provider, however, is a bit more protective about potential sharing of a connection than most. Even so, one phone call to a very helpful member of Linksys tech support had the system running perfectly.
`

Can't ask better of the router or the company. I recommend this product specifically and Linksys generally.

Summary: Good, but not great
Review: I've owned this product for a few years now, and it recently just died - the ethernet switch portion is completely dead, which means no computer using ethernet can be attached to it, although the WAN connection still works (which still renders it useless).
Perhaps my negative impressions are mostly due to me being an early adopter of this product. I found the docutmentation to be poorly written, and some features half-implemented (the firewall/Internet security portion of the product). I use a Mac, and the firmware upgrades only work using a PC (since I use Virtual PC, I was able to perform updates). I paid nearly $200 for the product, but now it costs a lot less. So is $200 a good deal for 2 years of performance? I'm not so sure.

Summary: Home networking even I can do ...
Review: OK, so I'm not a computer moron, but up until now, I had not been willing to tackle home networking. The Linsys hardware is completely stable and reliable, and sharing our DSL connection through the router is a breeze.

Summary: Too Safe
Review: The linksys works great as a router and I dont even notice a slowdown in speed as I have in other routers but the problem is the firewall options dont work that well and you cannot send anything via ftp or anyother way of sending besides attaching via e-mail. So if you think you can handle that(I have) then it is the best. Otherwise you might want to consider something else

Summary: Great when it works. terrible when it doesnt.
Review: The title seems obvious but reveals the true nature of this contraption. When this device works you dont ever think about it (as should be the case). However, when it fails (2-3 times in the last year) it takes hours of cajoling re-setting to get it to work again. Tech support takes a while to reach, but is helpful and knowledgeable. When wont it work? Whenever my cable modem stops working for a period of time the router gets screwed up when the cable modem is back up. So when the cable modem is back up I have to reset the device, re-program my MAC id and release/renew my DHCP address and hope it works before giving up and calling tech support.

Summary: As good as advertised.
Review: It seems like there is a big difference in reaction when it comes to this router. Either people love it because it was a breeze to get it up and running or people hated it because it simply didnt work. Reading all the reviews i found that there were more satisfied buyers then unsatisfied ones. I was also convinced by many of my firends who have said that linksys products have excellent support and that this particular router was the best around.

Unfortunately when i first set up this router it wouldnt connect to my ISP. Afer about an hour of fruitless attempts, i gave up. Since our DSL modem had multiple ports, All of my home PC's could access the internet however not simultaneously. So for about 3 months the router sat quitely on my desk collecting dust. Then one day after a friend suggested to update the firmware of the router i decided to give it another shot. In between that time i refreshed my system and did a complete install of XP. Whether it was a function of the new firmware for the router i downloaded from linksys or windows XP i had the router up and running in minutes. I have two XP systems and one 98se system on our home LAN and they all share the internet seamlessly. Even Gaming was noticably faster.

I highly recommend this router. Its easy to set up and linksys is known for great support. You really can't go wrong.
