Summary: Insanely Easy to Set Up
Review: This has to be the best [money] I've ever spent on my computer. If you're running multiple computers from one cable modem, this is for you. It took all of seven minutes from taking it out of the box to my wife and I web-surfing on different machines. Most of the seven minutes was plugging in wires. Highly recommended.

Summary: Linksys BEFSR41 router
Review: Excellant choice especially for the money! The SPI and NAT seem to do a pretty good job protecting the PC's behind the router. Speeds seem to be the same with or without the router and the four port switch made an excellant upgrade for my netgear hub! Linksys seems to be supporting this product with upgrades but I have yet to hear back on an email I sent three weeks prior to this review. This message was in regards to using dialup internet on one of the networked computers to serve the others on the router. I was able to figure out how eventually as I occasionally need this to access the networks at my place of employment. It is easy to see why this is the or one of the most popular cable routers! ...

Review: The product is great as long as you keep using it isolated of a business/intracompany environment. What I mean is, if you try to login into your company VPN, you will have a hard time.Hugo Garcia

Review: Ordered in December, 2001. Easy to install and works perfect. Plus the rebate was mailed to me as promised promptly. What else can you expect. Quality product plus quality promise.

Summary: Network novices - don't be afraid
Review: Installation after all was smooth but the CD wizard didn't work; it was telling me it couldn't establish connection to the Internet. I went then with the manual approach, which was pretty straightforward.
By the way, for those who are new to the networking I'd recommend to try running a useful configuration utility program "winipcfg" from Start->Run command. It will display all those IP, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS addresses, which you will need during the installation. No calling your ISP is necessary at this point. After clicking the "More info" button, it will show you everything you need. Just make sure that in pull down menu you see the name of your Ethernet Adapter that is used for your high speed connection, not AOL or PPP for example. It should be displayed there by default, though.
If you already have firewall software on your PC, you can still use it after the router's installation as an additional security from within your system. If you don't have it, you need to get one. Router itself shields you pretty well only from the outside intruders. And don't forget to disable firewall during the router's installation.
As a new user of this router I'm giving it my highest ratings for the price and currently very good performance.

Review: WORKS GREAT, EASY TO INSTALL! If you're looking for a quality router that is easy to configure, this is the way to go and the connectivity speeds are much better than wireless.

Review: I've had this router for about two years, and it functions beautifully. At one point, I had trouble sending email, and it turned out that the trouble was with my ISP. Setting the MTU to 1492 soved that problem. Russel Patterson

Summary: A Pleasant Surprise
Review: Out of the box, it's ready to go. It acts as a network switch (better than a hub), a broadband (high-speed network) router and a firewall. Although Linksys offers no Mac-specific support, it works with Macs, even with an AirPort hooked into it.
Linksys has released several firmware upgrades, which can be easily uploaded to the BEFSR41. A TFTP program is included in the firmware update package, but it's only for PCs (no surprise there, based on my previous comment.)
Mac users will need to download MacTFTP, a shareware implementation of a TFTP client. Search on versiontracker.com for the latest version.
Macs and PCs can share the same internet connection.
The BEFSR41 also acts as a DHCP server, so you don't need to pre-assign IP addresses to the Macs and PCs in your network.
The firewall prevents others on the Internet from snooping into your network; an important consideration if you have a high-speed Internet connection that is constantly online.
Changing the settings is easy and can be accomplished through a web browser on either a PC or Mac. Simply use the IP address of the router as the url. ...
It will prompt you for a userid and password. Leave the userid blank and enter just the password. (If you haven't changed the password yourself, the original password can be found by reading the owner's manual.)
Unless you have some very specific network requirements, the out-of-the-box configuration will work very well for most people. Make sure you write down any settings you change. When you upgrade the firmware, all settings are reset to factory defaults.
The best features: extremely easy to set up and it works.

Summary: Great and Effortless
Review: I feel since I have written a negative review of the D-Link DI-704, I need to talk on the replacement. This unit is great. Up and running in five minutes. A lot of good documentation included that was really not needed. The start up CD guided me through process. I will buy Linksys products for my home network needs now.

Summary: Great router and switch
Review: This is a terrific product. I am using it with an ADSL connection and have extended my network with another Linksys switch (EZXS55W) via the uplink ports. I also purchased the Zone Alarm Pro software which works in conjunction with the BEFSR41 (it's a package deal between Zone Alarm and Linksys and is cheaper than buying Zone Alarm Pro separately). It all works like a charm and I have full speed simultaneous internet on each computer in the house plus full firewall protection through the combination of the NAT (Network Address Translator) in the router and the Zone Alarm software firewall. I have had this router now for 12 months and am currently running three desktop computers, a laptop (occasionally) and a print server from it. One setup thing to note is that it is worth selecting the "Keep Alive" option and the router automatically pings the ADSL provider every 30 seconds or whatever setting you have given it. The other thing to note is that if you connect another switch (as I have) through the uplink ports they need to be connected with a crossover cable.
