Summary: Decent - but they do break out of warranty!!
Review: Decent router / switch... they are prone to stop working out of warranty. The one I have now lasted 13 months before it locked up (all WAN lights stay lit and will not reset).I'm shoping for a new one right now.

Summary: Linksys BEFSR41 Etherfast 4-port cable/DSL router
Review: Easy installation on desktop computers running Windows 98 and Windows XP Professional. Works flawlessly with Linksys Cable Modem and etherfast PCI card. Working flawlessly on AT&T Broadband high access cable system. Tried both wireless and wired router, but found this one more consistent with no drop in access speed.

Summary: Great Product, a must have
Review: This product was so easy that my computer illiterate mother could have set it up. I got this in combination with a Linksys Cable modem, and they are a great combination. All that the Router required for setup was to be connected (picture diagrams included) and you needed to make sure that 2 boxes were checked in the network properties setup page, very detailed instructions on how to do this. Then just shut everything down, including the router, turn it back on, open Internet Explorer, enter 192.168.1.1 and you are automatically taken to the router configuration page where you check about three more things, then just restart one more time and your ready to go. Easiest home network I have ever installed. No networking experience needed, very wonderful instructions. Definate 5 stars.

Summary: Good product - but expect ZERO support
Review: I bought a linksys BEFSR41 a few years ago when I wanted to expand my home network. It was fast, and generally reliable... until it broke. The problem is, it broke just outside of warranty (it figures), and Linksys wouldn't even give me the time of day! I specifically asked Linksys if there were repair options available, or if I could get a replacement for a fee. They basically said "go buy another one." Why would I do that when the first one broke and they gave me no support?

Summary: Effortless setup, truly plug and play.
Review: Previously, I owned a similar Netgear cable/dsl router and after spending hours trying to configure it, calling their unhelpful tech support, and trying everything possible (including some documents they e-mailed me), I gave up. And I work with computers daily, have built my own, do all my own upgrades as well for friends etc. The Linksys required me plugging in the computers and rebooting. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I've had it for months with no trouble. Wish I'd bought this first.

Summary: Works great -- and DOES let you host a site
Review: I used one of these for a year or so, before giving it to my mother when I upgraded to the wireless version; it's worked fine the whole time, and now my very non-technical parents have a home network. To respond specifically to the comment titled "Works great -- as long as you dont host anything" from May 9, 2002: this router does indeed support multiple computers while enabling you to host a web site; mine's been doing exactly that for a year or so. The documentation states that you have to disable DHCP to enable port forwarding, but I've found this to be incorrect: you can still forward to a specific local IP address, if you've given that particular machine a static IP. I just picked a particular address for my Linux server (e.g. 192.168.0.100), and forward port 80 to it; the other machines can still get their addresses via DHCP. Even if it were true that you had to disable DHCP to do port forwarding, this doesn't mean you can't support multiple machines - you can always assign static IP addresses to your machines. This is easy: just make them up, as long as they're in the local subnet range (by default, 192.168.0.xx, where xx is from 1 to 255 - I suggest starting at 100 to avoid conflict with DHCP), and set that address in your computer's network settings. Pick different ones for each computer, of course. I suspect that the "you must disable DHCP" business has more to do with keeping people from getting themselves in trouble by setting up port forwarding to dynamically assigned addresses.

Summary: Great product!
Review: Not knowing anything about networking, I called Linksys for 'tech support' before I bought this router. The tech. support were great. I told the gentleman I didn't purchase this router, but need info before I did. No problem, he answered my questions and it was off to Amazon.com to buy one (the best price too I found). I ran the cable myself and had a pro do the set-up. I didn't want to mess around with setting and the like so that's why I had a pro do the configuration set-up. My computer tech. told me that his company only uses Linksys products. In less then 15 mins. I was online with both computers. 30 mins. later my network (2 PC's) were networked. Full file, printer and internet sharing. Bottom line: Nice product that works great and when you call tech. support a REAL person answers in less then 1 minute hold time.

Summary: Great Econo Router
Review: This is the best router for your money. I do net working on the side and have never had one customer call with any complaint. Easy to set up with some knowledge of the equipment. It is almost plug n play.
