Summary: Quick setup, no problems
Review: I previously set up a computer with windows 2000 and ICS. What a mistake. I should have gotten one of these to start with. It took about 5 minutes to set up and hasn't had a problem in months.

Summary: Run far, run fast from this product
Review: We will NEVER buy another Linksys product again, based on our experiences with this product. At first we thought it was great - set-up was very easy and the router integrated immediately into our home network. After 5 months, the router up and quit working - it appears the WAN port got fried, so we no longer were able to connect our network to the Internet via our cable modem.

Called tech support and they were nice, but after their scripted help procedures, essentially clueless, and passed us off to a promised escalation call sometime soon. Call came the next day, by which time we had run to the nearest Wal-Mart and gotten ourselves another one. So far so good. Got the RMA for the original router in a timely fashion and sent it back. (Still waiting for replacement at the time of this review, which we will stick in a closet, if it works, and hope we never need to use it.)

7 days later, the router (same model)that we purchased from Wal-Mart died, same symptoms. Did not bother calling tech support, but took this one back the next night and got a fresh one after work. Dead out of the box. Went to a different Wal-Mart after dinner, took the dead one back, and got another one. Again, dead out of the box.

Hooked up one computer directly to the cable modem and researched this router a bit more, and completely concur with all the negative reviews on this product, after our experiences. Next day, we bought a Netgear RP614 router, and after an initial call to tech support to work out an issue with the router talking to our kind of cable modem (a "telco" or 2 way modem, which needs a cable connection for the downstream, and a phone line dail-up connection to complete the upstream), we were up and running smoothly, and have had no more troubles with the network since then. Bonus on the Netgear RP614 too - it comes with its own ethernet cable, so you don't have to buy one!

Summary: don't do it
Review: it {does not work well}, it is always resetting, and kicking us off the net, then it takes it 10 minutes to turn back on.....not worth the money. I gave it one star, because it won't let you put no stars.

Summary: Excellent hardware, easy to configure & use
Review: I've worked on networked systems for years, but am rather new at setting them up myself. I approached this task with more than a bit or fear and anxiety.

Fortunately, Linksys has created a product that almost installs itself.

It literally took more time to unpack the router/modem and string the Cat-5 cable than it did to configure the router and have several machines sharing a DSL connection. The printed manual is very informative and well-written (other hardware manufacturers could take a lesson from Linksys here), but the help feature in the web-based configuration system is even better. Explanations and suggestions abound, and Linksys phrases things in a manner that makes users feel like they're not being talked-down to. How refreshing!

The basic setup will probably suffice for most home users, but there are lots of configurable advanced options for experienced networkers and geeks (like me) who like to tweak things. A couple of nice features for neophyte network admins: built-in NAT (network address translation), which effectively acts as a firewall, hiding your internal network from outsiders with evil intent; integration support for ZoneAlarm Pro and/or PC-cillin, which allow you to enforce these programs' safety features over the entire network. For the geeks: port and address blocking, path routing, and lots of more esoteric funcionality that, frankly, I will never be likely to use. But it's there!

At this price, and with this ease of use, there's no longer any reason the home user should dash from room to room, or make the kids wait to use the only "connected" computer in the house. Buy a Linksys router/modem, a few network cards, some cable, and do it!

Summary: How can anyone not appreciate this device
Review: I bought this, brought it home, unpacked it, and had it up and running within 5 minutes, and my connections seem much faster. This is a great product for a small price. Why pay $5 a month for an extra IP address when you can buy this. It works great. I would recommend this product to anyone.

Summary: Nice Router - Easy setup
Review: I bought this router to enable my fiance' and I to network our machines together and access our DSL line. Previously we had been using a NetGear hub and dial up internet access. Let me say the setup was a snap. The only problem we encountered was with the internal network settings on our computer. We had already had IP addresses set up for each machine due to the previous network we had running, and on initial install the dsl modem wasn't able to communicate with the router. Upon reflection I figured out that I needed to delete our old IP addresses because the router was now assigning them. Once that was done..wham, instant internet access. I now have 3 pc's hooked up sharing files and the internet. So far, the router has performed flawlessly.

Summary: Outstanding NetMeeting and Msn Messenger Support
Review: With the latest firmware this is the only SOHO router I know of that has a built in H.323 proxy for full function outgoing audio/video calls from NetMeeting.

It also includes UPnP NAT traversal support for Msn/Windows Messenger incoming and outgoing audio/video calling support which only a few other routers have.

Summary: Sub 7
Review: Before buying this product, I was being hit with at least 30 different attacks an hour on my segment, yes I am using Road Runner, Not only dose the router not answere, but having the Firewall and Anti-virus program part of it's filtering system has kept my CPU's free from virus attacks. Don't get me wrong, you have to keep up with your virus dat update's. My firewall on each of my 5 pc's has Macafee virus scans and have not picked up anything since adding the router to my LAN. But the router has; and I was able to delete those file even before they reached my pc saving me time and money.. For the money it's a must buy..

Summary: When it breaks, you'll be sorry!
Review: I bought one of these three months ago and it broke. I've spent almost two months trying to get a new one because of my warranty but Linksys has done nothing. Good Luck!
