Summary: This Baby Started it All
Review: This is the broadband router that started the revolution. Linksys keeps updating the firmware to keep up with the new technology, but they basically did it right the first time in this area, and they continue to dominate.

The router is very easy to set-up, but if you do have problems, or just want to learn more about it, there are plenty of people in newsgroups and web forums that have this very same router. You're bound to get any question you have answered quickly.

Summary: Perfect solution for sharing an ADSL connection
Review: I purchased this product a few months ago to share an ADSL connection between computers. Had it up and running in a few minutes and it's worked flawlessly since. I'm going to purchase another for my small business. Good documentation, too -- a rarity with home networking products.

Summary: It works as advertised
Review: The LinkSys 4-Port Cable/DSL Router was very easy to set up and in the five months I have had it, it has worked flawlessly. I have two computers running off it with different operating systems and I can detect no degredation of speed.

What can I say? It's great to buy something that does what it's supposed to, is fairly priced, and is also reliable.

Summary: I'd pay twice as much for the ease and wonder of this gem
Review: Simply put - believe the other reviewers who say this is a snap to put together and make a home network. It's so easy, that unfortunately having a network at home is no longer a geek thing, since anyone can do it. This is the easiest, simplest, and best working router/hub combo I can think of. No more silly winpoet on the computer, no more logging into the DSL account. This router stays connected all the time to the account. All you have to do is turn your computer on to be connected.

The most time consuming aspect of setting this up was taking it out of the box, unwrapping everything from the plastic, and fishing behind my desktop to connect the ethernet cables. The actual set up took about five minutes, and was so uncomplicated, I assumed I had done something wrong. But I didn't. Worked perfectly the first time.

And this does work as a hub, which I hadn't realized. I used a hub for a while, and then after moving my equipment around, I experimented to see if it work as a hub so I could remove one electrical device. By golly, I could!

I highly recommend this gem.

The router has a built-in firewall, and works with PCs and Macs. Don't know how it works with linux - haven't tried to connect it to my linux box yet.

Summary: Buy elsewhere
Review: exchanged two already and both were defects......they made a high pitched noise which it is not suppose to do....check around the web and you will read other complaints about this issue.....I repeat it is not suppose to make a high pitched hum and if it does then it is a defect...i exchanged two already and both had the same problem except the first one i had made a lower pithced noise than the second...i wish i would had just kept the first....other than that though it does work good......to bad the sound is so annoying though....I had my computer, tv, and an air conditioner on and i could still hear this thing humming......and no its not interference cause i've tried plugging it in elsewhere

Summary: Excellent for non technical people
Review: I bough this router to be able to share our DSL Internet connection with my wife. I just installed the software (that comes in a CD) and that's it! Windows XP does not need any software and it recognizes the router immediately.
The speed is the same as before (at least I haven't noted a difference) and we are Internet independents now!

Summary: Great First and Last Home Network or Small Business Router
Review: After Trying all the complicated gadgets and sharing tools available, I chanced upon this nifty little router. It is VERY VERY EASY to setup and use. Once setup your done, short of some act of god you will never have to mess with it again, i didnt. And if you need more than 4 ports?, No biggy this thing can handle up to 255 computers, just use a plain old hub and this little router will dish out the adress' all you do is plug in the cable's, use the the web page style interface to tell it how many computers you need adress' for and your done. It can do quite a bit more if you need more, but if you just want somthing that works "Out of the Box" this is your unit.
Also Works fine with Everquest.
Happy Networking,
Rob Cannon

Has built in security (firewall) wich is a MUST for home networks on high speed connections. Very glad I bought it.
