Summary: It All Started With This Router . . .
Review: This was the Router that started it all for the SOHO/Home Users and the others came after. This eye popping product set the computer industry on its heels. No one could believe a router that was compatible with both cable and dsl modems was this good and this cheap. It also sports a 10/100 4-Port Switch and is capable of supporting 253 connected computers by adding hubs. The setup interface for the router is via your Internet Browser via its default IP address of 192.168.1.1 . Before the rest of the industry caught up and came out with their own cheap routers, the company Linksys made millions, killer product!! The router works flawlessly and is very fast. The routers firmware is never out dated since it can be flash updated via your computer by downloading updates from Linksys. It handles firewall security via NAT and has an option to reject all connection attempts from the internet no matter what type they are while still letting you get out.

Summary: Worst Product EVER - World Customer Service EVER
Review: You should be able to hook up two computers to the router and do some configs to access the internet, but no, never worked correctly, never, never, never. Spent hours on the phone with the most incompetent tech support ever. They barely speak English and read directly from databases. You can't understand them and get the same "tech support" again and again. Even their tech support manager was "too busy" to talk to me. I will NEVER BUT LINKSYS PRODUCTS AGAIN. I'M WARNING YOU NOW.

Summary: Quick and Painless
Review: What can I say....less than 30 minutes and had two computers on different operating systems networked to my DSL connection. Very detailed installation instructions walked this computer illiterate person through the process without a hitch. Highly recommend this product.

Summary: Incredible router
Review: After finally signing up for DSL in January 2001, I decided to get a router that could handle PPPOE since the PPPOE program I was using lacked features and the sheer number of hackers port scanning my computer distracted me from my usual computer work. A few port scans aren't bad, but when my firewall was constantly going berzerk with alerts and warnings, I decided I'd had enough.

The router comes with a built-in simple firewall that blocks most of the simple scans, however be sure to place a LARGE password into the router login screen. Secondly, you get a built-in PPPOE handler which frees up needing that utility installed on every OS you boot (BSD presented a problem for me).

Installing my unit took about 5 minutes, after the ritualistic tossing aside of the manual, I simply plugged it up, hooked in my computers and rebooted the OS's. That built-in DHCP helps quite a bit but my only gripe after some years of use is you only get ONE DMZ IP.

Over the past 2 years, Linksys has had some very minor problems that they've patched quickly and allowed me to download/flash the hardware without any difficulty, along with some nice feature additions. Flashing this unit couldn't be easier, especially with Linksys' web-based interface.

Overall, I've not had any issues with my Linksys router and would purchase another one immediately if mine died - especially since Amazon has lowered the price significantly since I first purchased it!

Summary: Linksys BEFSR41 performs flawlessly
Review: This thing is amazing! Follow the Quick Start guide, but in most of the installs I've done, you can plug the device in, reboot your computers and everything will work.

Summary: I'm mystified
Review: I'm mystified by the review written by the engineer. I plugged in my Linksys router a couple of years ago and have pretty much forgotten it. I have hard connections, I recently plugged in an Airport module, I have Macs and windows machines running both wireless and wired to the router. Never a problem

Summary: Works Great
Review: I have multipile PC's now finally able to share my DSL line and surf at the same time, and for $... you can't beat the built in fire-wall. A Hub, router and firewall the size of a paperback, amazing, to me at least.

I know there are other products out there - I have seen some posts on Netgear products so check that out, but I am very satisfied home office user.

I only wish I had spend $... more and bought the integrated router and wireless access point by Linksys. Recently went ahead and installed the stand alone Linksys WAP11 device and that is working away and now I can take my laptop out to the pool and get my work done. Freedom, Finally!

Summary: BEFSR41v2 Review
Review: I've used several BEFSR41 routers. I feel that the v2 model is an excellent product. I've only had an issue with the first version of the product where the power needed to be reset. The later version 2 of the router seem to have fixed that problem and has been running perfectly fine for several months now without ever having to touch it. If you are purchasing the product new from Amazon.com, they will most likely send you the newer v2 model. If you're purchasing used, be careful that you are not getting the older (non v2) model.

Summary: Excelent router!
Review: I've used this router in big or small networks, I can configure internet access to certain network cards, and a bunch of useful features, like DHCP for plug and play networks. It's a must!

Summary: Nice blue paper wight
Review: The router's firmware corupted after two weeks of use. I bought it for [$$$] and found the firewall features not worth the money. When the firmware corrupted, linksys tech support said a lot of ummms and ahhhs and told me to take it back. My cat provided better support and seemed to have a higher technical background. I bought a D-link router that came with a print server for [$$] 60 bucks. It doesn't have a switch but for my uses I don't need one. My friend bought a linksys router and has returned his as the firmware corrupted shortly after he bought it. Buy a D-Link and buy a four port switch and you will be way better off than buying this cheesey little router. :)
