Summary: Pray you don't need tech support
Review: While this product does what is advertised, the speed degredation is unacceptable. Prior to installing the router I was pinning at 10mbs on virtually every speed check I used. After the router was installed I was only getting high 4s.

After days of phone calls and countless emails back and forth to tech support, they were unable to come up with a solution or reason why I was getting the speed decrease.

I will continue to use the product for now but I will be replacing it with another solution in the very near future.

Summary: Speed lost
Review: This piece was very easy to setup(10 min). Works fine. I think thats the best according its price. But the reason i gave 4 star, is ,i have some doubts about the speed. I think there is some lost comparing a direct connection to dsl. Anyway i recommend it.

Summary: Easy as CAKE
Review: When I wanted to share my cable connection with another of my computers, I was hesitant about the connection process. I had heard about cable routers, but I was skeptical that it could be as "plug and play" as they say they are. Well, 'they' were right.

This was EASY as CAKE. I connected the cable modem to the router, ran an ethernet wire to each computer from the router, and I was all set. All I had to do was enable something to do with my ethernet card in my control panel. SO EASY. The directions are very clear and easy to follow.

If your looking to spread out that cable connection, a router from lynksys is the way to go. It's cheap it's easy, go for it.

Summary: Easy and effective
Review: Being a person who only has (what I would consider) basic to intermediate knowledge and no experience in the operation and set up of networking hardware, this Linksys Router worked wonderfully! It includes a CD-ROM start-up and configurer program, which helped me get up and running quick. I bought it to allow my compter and Xbox share my home's internet access, and it works flawlessly. I connected the appropriate cables, plugged it in, started my computer and ran the CD. Within 20 minutes (had I looked at the instructions sooner, it would have only taken about 10) I had my computer running the 'net and my Xbox live network settings configured. For Amazon.com's price, this is a great router for simple, easy-to-use home networking.

Summary: Outstanding networking product...
Review: When Linksys first marketed this router I was probably among the first 50 to buy it. After receiving it it took me less than 10 minutes to get my home network going. Prior to it I had been toiling for MONTHS to make Windows 95 accept two Ethernet cards. So the decision took less than 10 seconds after I finished reading one of the early reviews. Product worked without a hitch for almost 4 years when I lost it to a lightning strike outside the house. Immediately repurchased it and my network was back within 24 hours...
Makes networking so easy even Grandma could do it...

Summary: Own it and love it... needs a fan
Review: I bought this router from amazon, it was at my door within 4 days of ordering and set up and running in under 10 minutes, including installing 2 network cards.

The computers on my home network consist of Redhat Linux and Microsoft Windows 2000 pro driven machines though at times we've had XP Pro Machines, and windows ME machines. Obviously we had the least difficulty with The linux Operating systems since it's much better and networking and security than windows is, and I'm a linux sysadmin myself and can't figure out window's networking and IIS settings for the life of me, but the cd included with the router did all the work for me on the windows machines in about 5 seconds. The linux machines automatically detected and configured everything on their own.

We are constantly downloading and uploading things at the max rate that our cable internet provider allows us and I have an FTP server set up on one of my computers that the Router forwards one port to (which was easily set up in the browser based configuration menu that it has) so this router gets pretty hot considering that it has no fan whatsoever. We also had a big scare one night when someone had laid a magazine down on top of the router blocking it's ventilation holes while we had been downloading at 1500k and uploading at 256k and sharing mp3s over the network with each other at 100 mbps for a couple of hours and by the time we noticed that the magazine had been left on the router it was so hot that it nearly burned my hand to touch it.

However I easily took a CPU fan off of an old computer that I had laying around and I screwed it down into the ventilation holes on top of the box and wired the fan into the 9v ac (the fan was for 12v ac but works fine, just doesn't spin as fast) power line for the router and now it always runs completely cool and it even performs better since it's not getting so over heated.

I really love this router though and the lack of a fan shouldn't be a problem for the average user however adding one on is a cinch and I would reccomend doing so to anyone who uses this router for long time (more than a half hour at a time) high bandwidth downloading/uploading/LAN transferring.
