Summary: It worked right out of the box
Review: When my wired router went out i decided to upgrade to wireless, with the aniticipation of getting a laptop. I first bought a D-link wireless router (my wired one was a D-link and was happy with it). After setting it up i did a internet speed test and was shocked. i was getting about 300kbs. I was normally over 2000kps. I called d-link and they told me that was the nature wireless. I did not believe them. I then bought the Linksys. I installed the router, then installed the ethernet card. I then turned on the computer to install the software. Running on windows XP i did not get that far. It recognized the card and routher and i was on the surfing internet in about one minute withoug loading the software. I called tech support to make sure i still did not need to load the software and they told me that it would not be necessary. Then on the speed test i was back up to 2000kps. I now have a laptop and tested the reception by walking down my street. after about 200 feet from my house and my neighbors wondering what i was doing, i was still getting a signal. I highly recommend this router.

Summary: Its worth the installation headache
Review: Yea... it was a pain to setup. Especially because I'm using AOL DSL. I tried the setup disk and everything seemed to be going great but in the end, the computer didn't recognize my modem. I looked online at Linksys.com and under support I typed in AOL and then it showed a list of Q&A. I read a couple of them and tried it. I figured out that the instructions were a little off and eventually got it all working in just under 3 hours. If I were to do it again, I think I could set it all up in like 20 minutes.

As far as performance, My Sony Viao PCG-Z1VA has a built-in 802.11b but I wanted the best performance possible so I got the Linksys WPC54GS Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster to match. Connection to the web from my laptop is unbelievable. Its as if I was on the desktop, wired directly in the modem. I ran some speed tests and it shows that I'm on par with the desktop.

My signal strength is around 80% throughout the entire house. The transfer rate is consistently around 125.0 Mbps.

Its as if the notebook is just another drive in my desktop. I couldn't ask for better performance.
