Summary: Truly plug and play experience
Review: The Linksys Wireless 4-port Cable Router arrived from Amazon.com in just 4 days with ground UPS shipping (free shipping too!). My pc connected to the WAN port is running Windows XP and the laptop runs Windows 2000. I was able to install the router and one of the pc's (laptop) in under an hour! It was so easy to go thru the setup with the Installation Wizard along with the CD provided. I had no trouble with any portion of installing the router or the software. Worked like a dream. I have one more desktop pc to connect which is running Windows 98 (linksys wireless pci card) and can only hope it is as easy. The Linksys Instant Wireless series is very user friendly. Even a novice would have no trouble at all. Next on the list, the wireless print server! This is a really good product for the money.

Summary: Beware of firmware updates
Review: I had (emphasis on had) a befw11s4 ver. 2 router. In an attempt to remedy some strange VPN problems, I tried upgrading to the 1.43.3 firmware. BIG MISTAKE. The update program lost connectivity with the router during the flashing process, resulting in a dead router. I even managed to duplicate this activity on another router just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. A call to their tech support confirmed that this is a problem other users are experiencing, yet the faulty firmware is still available for download. If it works out of the box for you, great. But be careful if you decide to update the firmware.

Summary: Great Product!
Review: I set this up with a DLink cable modem and 2 computers running XP. I have used both an Orinco and Cisco wireless card in my laptop and they both worked great with the router. My desktop computer has Linksys PCI network card that works great with the router too. The setup was very staight forward. I have a small home with 1000 square feet and have great signal strength throughout the house.

Summary: Much better than the original!
Review: I had to sell my version 1.0 Linksys router due to problems I was having using FTP. Everytime I would try to use it, the router would reset itself...very strange. I think it might have to do with the fact that I'm running a Mac network, and Linksys primarily caters to Windows users. Plus, I was having trouble using the wireless connection throughout parts of the house.

I tried several other routers and wasn't very pleased. They didn't perform as well as the Linksys, despite the FTP problem. After Linksys released this new version, I purchased it hoping that it would work better than the original. It does! The wireless signal works better now that it's a 2.4ghz signal. Plus my FTP problem went away (once I went to Linksys' website and upgraded the router's firmware to the latest version). I highly recommend it.

Summary: My wireless home network
Review: I own a Linksys Wireless 4-Port Cable/DSL Router and Linksys Wireless Notebook Card. I am impressed with the Link Quality and the Signal Strength. As I write this review, I am in the bedroom typing on my wireless Vaio Notebook. My Linksys ROuter connects the server in the family room - other side of the house. I further use the Linksys Wireless Router to stream a live daily webcast in stereo from my home office. The Linksys WIreless Router and Wireless Notebook Card are a smart buy and will offer you tremendous value!

Oh yeah, I drink coffee on the front porch with my wireless notebook. Video streams, mp3 streams download at 300k and up from my cable modem in the house.

Summary: Good product with some minor problems
Review: To identify the clients allowed to use the wireless service, user can set the WEP key and/or
lock the MAC addresses. However, the setup interface for the client MAC addresses is
not clear. You have to try it few times to understand how it works. The other problem
is the disconnection after an idle period. The router will disconnect your connections
such as ssh after an idle period. This is not good if you are remotely running long jobs and
need to wait online for the results. For everything else so far, I would say this is a good router.

Summary: Extremely easy to use and configure
Review: An excellent administrative interface and installation guide have made it clear that this is a second or third generation product. I installed it without even consulting the documentation, with the only snag being a need to change the default IP address to account for the fact that I actually have it chained to a second router. All in all an excellent product, with much better range than the results of paring it with Linksys's client cards would suggest.

Summary: configuration and tech support suck big time
Review: This product may or may not work. I really don't know, because I was unable to connect to the URL for the web based router configuration utility. Rather than including a configuration program on disk with the router, Linksys chose to have their configuration program reside on their web site. You need to access this utility in order to change anything to do with either the router setup or the wireless setup. After literally hundreds of unsuccessful attempts to connect, I called tech support. They said that the site was "busy", and that I should keep trying. Do yourself a favor and buy a product from another company, like d-link. Make sure you buy a product which you can configure without having to go online.

Summary: Linksys Wireless 4 Port Router
Review: I purchased the router and two instant wireless network PC cards after reading several positive reviews. I was up and ruuning in about 25 minutes. I have not tested the extreme limits with the laptops, however it works well anywhere in the house.
