Summary: Very disappointed
Review: I have had two different BEFW11S4s and both devices crashed within 6 minutes (diagnostic light would go on and stay on). All tech support could tell me was that the motherboard was bad and they would send me a new one. I have had very bad luck with Linksys access points. I run a very plain three computer network. Linksys could not explain why their devices would not work. I would recommend a different name brand.

Summary: Real Bad Product and equally bad customer support
Review: BEFW11S4- Version 4 is really a bad product. It does not even merit ONE star rating. Negative star rating will be much more appropriate. It fails to keep the connections on, fails in long downloads, hangs up while surfing internet. Customer service from Linksys leaves a lot to be desired. It seems that this product did get top awards for its earlier version. Those who have bought this item with Version 4 have really wasted their money and time. In my opinion this product should be pulled out of the market and Linksys should refund the purchase cost. Before buying this product please look at
various problems faced by people by searching on the net.
Frankly it was a complete waste of money and time.

Summary: Light volume only!
Review: This router should be used for low volume traffic only. I bought two of these, one for my home office and one for a client's office. The setup was easy and router, dhcp, firewall, wireless and ethernet were all fine on the weekend. Monday morning was a disaster! The traffic from 10 clients overwhelmed the device and dhcp was failing and throughput was in the [...]. I thought the device was faulty and swapped it for the one at home that was working fine for two client PCs. Same results. Now we use the office befw11s4 as a wireless access point only.

Also, I've experienced certain ports being blocked that shouldn't have been according to the settings.

Summary: Three computers, 30 minutes, and it was working
Review: After reading some reviews, I was little hesitant to go with this or any other wireless router. But after narrowing down my choices and finding this one on-sale and with a rebate I wasn't expecting, I decided to go for it.

The model I purchased came with the wireless laptop card.

It probably took a half-hour to hook it all up. The router was installed onto the primary computer (Windows XP home edition). A second computer was also hard-wired into the router (Windows XP Pro) -which worked without making any changes. A Compaq laptop was the wireless part of the installation.

The status of the wireless connection can sometimes change from excellent to very good from the same location, but the transfer rate stays steady at 11mps. As long as the status remains at good or higher, you don't even notice you are operating wireless.

If you are downloading large files, such as PDF docs and such, you will notice a performance decline over your wired computer, but for surfing the net and reading email, I have trouble noticing a difference when using the wireless laptop.

Outdoor range (with the router inside) is strong enough to surf the net from anywhere in my yard. The signal is also strong from my basement.

I haven't really experimented with router location or the position of the two antennas on top of the router, as I haven't had a signal strength problem.

Summary: blocked by wet roof
Review: The unit works great. However, I ended up having to run a cable to my wife's computer because the wireless signal was completely bocked when the cedar shingle roof was wet by rain.

The signal had to pass through the wet roof twice to get from her study to my study.

Tried high gain directional antenna, did not help.

Summary: Do Not Buy This Router
Review: Like others have said. it loses its connection every 30 minutes and needs to be restarted.

I strongly recommend you not buy this router.

Summary: Beware - unreliable!
Review: Linksys has released a product that is buggy and unreliable - dozens of users report freezes and inconsistent internet access. To compound the problem, they refuse to acknowlege that the product is flawed, or to give any decent support to resolve these issues.

Don't waste your cash!

Summary: Buggy, Buggy, Buggy, Nothing but Problems
Review: This router has been nothing but problems.

In short, it hangs on streams and downloads. It also likes to assign IP addresses when you follow the directions to use a fixed IP address.

Tech support is useless, suggests adjusting the "MTU" and setting a fixed IP address (see above).

There are -dozens- of people with these problems. See the issues at DSLReports.com, search for BEFW11S4. Until this is fixed, BUY ANOTHER BRAND.

Summary: no go. I expect better from Linksys.
Review: I've tried 3 of these routers, all hardwired AND wireless, and all have the same problem - download windows freeze after a few minutes. It's quite intermittent, which makes it even more annoying. Sometimes it's at 1% complete, sometimes 99%. On average, though, pretty much all downloads lock up. DO NOT BUY. I have Windows XP Professional on a Dell Dimension 4300, and I couldn't get this thing to keep an internet connection, it dropped Yahoo all the time, and downloads froze up. AVOID! i can't say it enough. Linksys, it's a shame you've destroyed your good name. My old Linksys wired router works fine. This product is a useless piece of plastic. I feel horrible saying that, but it's true.

Summary: Dreamy
Review: Set it up and connected a wireless USB connector to my TIVO in under 10 minutes. Worked like a dream with little to no adieu. Dreamy.
