Summary: Easy installation, great value
Review: I bought this card to hook up my recently purchased DV camcorder. Installation was surprisingly easy, and didn't require any installation of drivers (since the card is OHCI compliant, the drivers are already part of most flavors of Windows). An added plus is the 4-6 pin Firewire cable included in the package, especially since most DV camcorders don't come with one. Definitely recommended.

Summary: works great
Review: I bought this for my PC so I could use my new iPod--which is also awesome. This card installs quick and easy on XP and there are no drivers to install. Buy it and you won't get disappointed.

Summary: So far so good
Review: I can't rate the product any higher yet as I am waiting for a DVD burner to use it, but I must have gotten a different package than the other reviewers. The CD with mine has NO drivers-not that you need one, the plug and play works fine-but the disc has only the myDVD editor, Acrobat, and Quicktime on it-no drivers. The real negative with this is that when the hardware installs, it installs as a Texas Instrument product and driver and the directions specifically tell you to look for the "AFW host controller" in the device manager list which is no where to be found-not in windows or on the CD. Not that it is unusual for directions to be misleading. Going to the Adaptec website there is a support FAQ that explains that sure enough the Texas Instrument info will show up and that is OK. It would be nice if there was more attention paid to getting the instruction sheets right.

Summary: Dead simple with XP
Review: I decided to pick up the 4300 to connect my video camera to my Windows XP box. So far, it has been absolutely trouble free.

Installation was as simple as dropping the card in and rebooting. Windows recognized the new hardware and installed drivers for it, not even needing drivers from the included CD. After that I simply plugged in my camcorder and everything just worked. You can't ask for easier than that.

A couple of notes:
- This card comes with a 4 pin -> 6 pin cable, which is nice if you happen to need one to connect your device.
- There is no way to relocate the ports to elsewhere in your case. If you were hoping to wire up some firewire ports on the front of your case, this card isn't your answer.

Summary: Great Value
Review: I don't have much expirience with FireWire cards.
This one works great for me, not problems during
installation, no problems for a month so far.
Also free VideoWave 4 software.

Summary: 1-2-3 Easy
Review: I got a Dell Dimension 2400 for Valentine's Day and it didn't come with any firewire ports for my ipod. So I asked my Dad what he used, and he told me about this handy little card. I have XP, so maybe that's the difference maker, but this card was SO easy to work with... seriously, having never seen the inside of a computer before, I installed it in 5 minutes while I was talking on the phone with my girlfriend. After that, a simple reboot and I had three firewire ports ready for use! Highly recommended for XP users.

Summary: Doesn't work with my PC
Review: I installed the board and my PC (running XP Pro) won't boot. I tested all the PCI slots with other cards (and mixed them up too) and the PC boots fine. I returned the card and got a new one. Same problem. I removed all of my other PCI cards and left this one in there alone ... same problem. I'm speechless. I guess it's not compatable with some systems. By the way, I know my set-up is fine. I have 3 PCI slots filled and 3 additional USB devices and all is well. I never had a problem like this before.

Summary: Easy to Install, Works Great
Review: I just installed the card and had no trouble installing and starting FireConnect on Windows XP machine. Existing driver in XP was recognized without having to install the driver from the CD. The included cable was a plus. To test the card I connected a camcorder and had no problem with transfering videos to my computer.
I wish all installations were this straightforward.

Summary: Does not recognize my sony camcorder
Review: I purchased this card based on the positive reviews here. However, my sony camcoder (TRV20) was not detected. I'm seeking technical support now. After I get their reply I will update this review. I use Windows XP pro.

Although this is a good card (according to reviews), it may not work for certain camcorders.
