Rating: Summary: Great print server for size and cost Review: 5 Stars for the print server, 1 star for the Instructions. I decided to give this print server a shot. I must say, the setup instructions are quite lacking. If you have never setup network printers before you will have problems. I have an IT backround, so I had no problems figuring it all out. All in all it took me 5 minutes to setup. It works great with my HP 960C. The origonal drivers only work when the printer is attached to the PC, but I downloaded the latest drivers from HP and setup was a snap. THe HP install program recognized the Print servers port software. I have been running with DHCP, and so far have had no problems.
Rating: Summary: Give a Static IP Address Review: As the documentation is really poor (why the 4 stars), you'd better plan to assign a static IP address to this device before installing the SW. You may do that with your router based on the MAC address of the device (see sticker on the back). Then install the software, and so wheter you use dynamic DHCP with your computers, the IP address of the said printer server will remain the same, precluding then lot of nightmare afterwards :)
Rating: Summary: Good Bang for the Buck Review: Got it working half an hour after I took it out of the box, BUT on the second time around. Turns out the first one I received was defective--wouldn't pick up an IP address nor broadcast its MAC. You need to launch the included PSAdmin utility to initially see the unit. The initial config. is not to use DHCP, which doesn't make sense. Anyway, after assigning it a static IP, it was up and running. Noticed the Network Print Port was not supported in XP Home, though Standard TCP/IP (LPR) is; in Win2k, I was able to use the Network Print Port. 3 stars because of poor documentation and web support, plus questionable quality control. Hope this helps.
Rating: Summary: Not for the novice Review: I finally got mine to work, but only after a struggle. All the comments are right - the documentation is of little value, especially for XP users, so you end up puzzling it out for yourself.
For what it's worth, here's what I found (I was plugging the print server into a Microsoft wireless router, and using it to drive an Epson 2200 printer.) The device picked up an IP address from the router's DHCP, but after all the warnings I'd read, I decided to play safe and assign it a fixed IP address. The XP firewall (I'm using XP2 Professional) did not affect it (BTW, the firewall automatically assigned port 9100, which is standard for printing.)
The instructions said assign the printer to a network port, but I'll be damned if I could find that as an option, so I chose a TCP/IP port instead. I chose LPR as the protocol. However, by doing this, I found that I had to assign a port name and a queue name, which I got from the printer server's Admin program.
Having done all this <phew!> it works fine - much better than my old configuration where I was using an old Windows 98 computer as a print server. No problem printing big Photoshop files etc.
Hope this helps you.
Rating: Summary: Not happy, tried really hard to be Review: I first purchased the 802.11b version of this USB printserver. It didn't work. I tried serveral access points including the Cisco CS1100, and the netGear MR812v2. Ended up sending it back to get the wired version in hopes it would clear up the problems. After hasseling with their support they finally granted me an RMA, but I had to fight for it. Two months later, I got a replacement unit. Then they billed me for a new unit! More problems I didn't need. The thing did work for a while, and is now on the fritz again. I'm not going to bother with it anymore. I could have built a print server for the amount of time I have put into this afair. Stay away from these jokers, unless you have a lot of time on your hands, and money you like to give away for products that are not ready for prime time.

Rating: Summary: Lame Duck! Review: I have had nothing but problems with this product. I bought it a year ago and tried throughout the year to get it going. I tried emailing technical service, but still have not heard a response from them. My wife and I just moved into our new home and I was setting up our home office. I decided to try this product one more time. Didn't work. Could not recognize the IP address. I went online to Amazon and found Chris and Online Techie's information very helpful. One more try for the gipper. It worked! So for one day, I have a print server. Let's see if it continues to work.
Rating: Summary: It's Great Review: I have just purchased and installed this print server and I am more than satisifed. I followed the instructions which were complete and easy to understand and was up and running in less that 1/2 hour. There was no trouble with the network recognizing the server and it works flawlessly with my HP 1300 mutifunction printer. Great buy!! Would highly recommend to all.
Rating: Summary: Terrible terrible service, incorrect web site Review: I purchased this (not at Amazon but at a brick & mortar site) item as their website listed "incompatible printers" and mine wasnt listed. I opened it up and tried it out and it didnt work. I tried many things (updating drivers etc) and still nothing. The only way to contact IOGEAR for help was email. I emailed for help and no reply. I returned the item and lost 15% restocking fee. A MONTH LATER IOGEAR replied saying I should have known it was incompatible. HUH? What am I? A mindreader? No further response, apology, explanation or even my lost 15% was given. CRAPPY service, slow response and unreliable information. Spend your hard earned cash on a device made by a more reputable manufacturer.
