Summary: 2 down -1 to go?
Review: I purchased this unit after considering alternative such as linksys and hearing that it was the best product in terms of reach for wireless devices. I tried to get the unit going and after running into some random errors (one of the systems connected via ethernet cable kept getting knocked offline) i decided to upgrade the firmware w/ the patch on the sight. Oops. Once i did that the system went into a state in which it was unreachable (flashing lights). Second unit was sent out to me. Wireless was working great, still having a problem w/ a (different) connection that kept getting knocked offline. OK, let's try the firmware upgrade again. Upgraded, 100%, successful (so the software said). Then, slowly, each machine lost its connection to the web. I looked at the unit and noticed the system lights were not on -the firmware upgrade seemed to put this SECOND system into an unusable state -couldn't reach it in any way, resets didn't work. dead unit #2. (and pls. believe me, this was not user error -i've been pretty meticulous about it). No idea what i'm going to do next --i suppose i'll see if 3's a charm and let you know. After that, i'm taking suggestions on another brand for this wireless thing!

Summary: D-LINK 713P P is for Perfect !!!
Review: I have had my D-Link 713p for 4 months. The install and configuration was so simple. The product works as advertised.

I have 3 ports hard wired into the router unit. I have 2 workstations and 1 laptop connected via ethernet. The machine only need to have DHCP checked in the network settings for win 2000.

Another coonection is wireless and is a laptop in our family room downstairs from my office. The laptop is connected via the D-Link wireless PCMCIA. The signal strength is 80% going through the floor and 1 wall. Pretty impressive.

I have done extensive testing of the download speeds from my connection and average 2600 KBps through the ethernet connections and about 1100 KBps through the wireless connection. I have done all of the tweaks recommended on DSLREPORTS.com.

The Print Server feature is awesome because it allows me to print from the wireless laptop to my highspeed HP4050 laser printer upstairs in my office.

The only negative I have found is the wireless connection locks up occasionaly. I have researched this and found that it is documented in the owners manual. This occurs when a hacker tries to probe my cable connection. I have confirmed this with both Tech support and viewing the firewall log when this occurs. This is fixed by re-cycling the power on the router. I would like to see a firmware upgrade to fix this

The firewall has been tested on DSLreports.com and Gibson and comesback with high marks.

The firmware has been updated after searching the dlink support site and I am no longer having any lockups. This products is very good. I now have 2 wireless laptopss and a hardwired connection going upstairs to my office supporting a Netgear 8 Port switch that supports 2-4 laptops & servers.

Enjoy !!!

Summary: will NOT work with Cisco Aironet Card
Review: It works great in other parts so far, just everytime it tried to establish connection with Cisco Aironet Wireless Adapter, it reset all configurations back to Factory default, and then no luck.

Summary: This product is no good !!!
Review: This product is, at best, an engineering prototype. Do not buy this if you are not very well versed in computers.
When this unit freezes, the only way to bring it back up is to connect a null modem cable, reset its ip address (192.168.0.1) and then reboot (via a terminal window).
When my computer is connected to this, using an ethernet connection, if I were to unplug the connection this unit freezes.
It is very unstable and this is with the firmware upgrade !
Mine is on its way back to Amazon... VERY DISAPPOINTED...

Summary: DI-713P: A Very Fine Broadband Router. Highly Recommended.
Review: I will keep this review short and to the point. I current use a D-Link broadband router, model is a DI-713P. This
router has a broadband uplink, ports for local ethernet plus wireless and print server support.

It is fully configurable via a web interface and everything works great. I could not be more pleased. I currently have 4 wireless platforms (servers, notebooks and desktops) and a few "wired" platforms running off the device, plus a print server set up that works super! DHCP and all other services work great.

I highly recommend this product and have an incredible wireless network connected via our cable model, with shared print services for everyone in the house. This is a great device and highly recommended for folks with a cable modem. Wireless is the only way to go, if you ask me, and this product does it all.

I would like to see the range and speed better, but I think this problem is common to all wireless devices of this FCC class. The bottom line is that it works completely in my home/office, from basement to top floor, flawlessly, at 11 MBPS (as advertised), it is easily configured (both router and clients), and is very reliable.

Summary: * * * Wireless is the Future * * *
Review: I have just recently purchased this router. Although I have a minor problem with the setting-up, this unit all together is fantastic! My problem is the wireless pc card inwhich I have to take out of the pcmcia slot adapter from the desktop when I load windows. It appears my Window98SE version does not load up properly with the card in placed. Manual said the card can be inplaced when shutting down and loading up. Techinical support could not find the problem. Nevetheless, this is a minor set back. The overall performance of the router is great. I haven't utilize all the features of the 713P, for instance, the printer server. I could only imagine it to be an asset when I have multiple connection sharing the same printer. Other features include: 4 wired port for desktop connections; WAP settings for privacy; and up to 135 shared wireless connections in one router.

I would like to add one new item Dlink just came out. This is for people who has a pocket pc (PDA). Dlink came out with a model DCF-650W wireless lan card for the pocket pc. I have the IPAQ 3635. This cards works great. It connects up to 11mbps duplicate of the dwl-650. It is a bit pricy but since you are thinking of getting this 713P, you'd might aswell get this card. It has been tested and is compatibile with: Compaq IPAQ; Casio E115 and E125; Sharp Telios; HP Jornada 720; and Intel Pentium/X86 CPU. It has not came out of the market as of 9/01; however, you can pick one up at Dlink.com.

Summary: Quick and Easy - Great Range
Review: I was thinking of just trying this product out, and later returning it or selling on ebay. But after about 3 days of using this, it has grown on me.

I don't want to take it back now. It was so easy to set-up and administer, i want it all to myself. The Signal Strength is awesome, as it covers every inch of my home and then some. The out of the box solution is a great advantage. I didn't need to configure anything on my DWL-650 or this DI-713P.

Oh and I couldn't forget to mention the fact that this thing has a built in Print Server. That saves clock cycles and hassles of the main computer being on all the time. I use 3 or the Wired Ports and my laptop is on the wireless portion, and everything is seemless. No difficult configuration. Same settings as if I was wired.

Highly Recommended

Summary: Good range, but update firmware
Review: The 713p is a lifesaver, it does all it is supposed to and I am very pleased with the range of the radio. I've managed to ping the router from over 100 meter away; through one wall!. I writing this review in my basement, that's 2 floors down from where my router is. The link quality is "Fair (33%)" and I'm happy. Works perfectly with my DSL line. (Norwegian provider over PPPoE) Using D-link 650 radio PCMCIA card for my laptop.

Advise 1: Upgrade to the latest firmware (VERY easy through Web-interface) as that support security on MAC level and it works without any errors. Currently running 128-bit WEP.

Advise 2: I've tried to compare this unit to the comparable Linksys model.....BUY THIS ONE!

Advise 3: Documentation is beginner+ : Know what a router is before you buy.

Summary: Not impressed but works after firmware upgrade
Review: Hi All, I wanted to share my cable internet connection with my laptop I use downstairs and bought the DI-713p Broadband router and DWL-650 PC card. I got the router hooked up and working right away and then loaded the software and PC card into my laptop...it worked for 4 minutes and then quit.....I then reinstalled it all and the same thing happened. I upgraded the firmware for the laptop and nothing.....I tried all the fixes in the manual with no luck.....then after hours of this I read something on the net again about firmware again and upgraded the routers firmware.....then boom! It worked.....until I rebooted...I upgraded the firmware a second time and boom! it worked again and then kept working. When I reboot my desktop with the router I sometimes have to go to the setup page and renew the IP setting to get it to work again with the wireless pc card....this will happen if I turn the power off to the router and modem too at shutdown but it seems to be a reliable connection otherwise. I love having my cable speed on my laptop. I don't like the way D-Link ignores the common firmware problem and still sells it's products with old firmware and no notification. When you go to the homepage for help you don't see anything about upgrading firmware as a fix and I learned of the firmware fix here! When you go to D-Link's page it should be written in large fonts.."...You must upgrade the firmware!" .....I believe that products should work right out of the box......I'm not sure if I'm keeping it yet but so far so good......

Summary: Easy as Pie to Set-Up and Signal Throughout Entire Home
Review: This Router is a blessing in disguise. Once I upgraded to the latest Firmware, like everyone suggests, I was up and running in no time. I have a DWL-650 in my laptop and it worked out of the box with this router.

I have all the features I need with this router including the ever so convenient Built in Print Server. This is a lifesaver. I have one computer set-up kind of like a server and it isn't the most up-to-date PC in the world so handling all the Print Jobs in my Home Office bogs it down every once and a while. With this Print Server the Router Processes all the Print Jobs.

And the Price on this is like no other Wireless 3port router with Print Server out there.
