Summary: BellSouth DSL Subscribers Beware
Review: After multiple phone calls to tech support I discovered that this product has not been working in the least for BellSouth DSL customers (90% of users can't even get it installed).

Summary: Great Router - Works like a charm right out of the box.
Review: Just recently invested less than 50 bucks to set up a home network using the DI-604 router from D-link. After using it for a while I wanted to unleash my HP Laptop from my office desk in the evening and join the rest of the world outside my basement. I picked up the DI-614+ router and a DWL-650+ wireless card to go with it. Following the instructions carefully I plugged the router in, moved all connections from the old router to the new one and ran the set-up wizard. Everything worked like a charm. All three of my computers worked exactly as they did without any needed changes. Next I installed the DWL-650+ card drivers on my HP PIII laptop (1.06 Ghz, 512 Mb, Win XP). Turned off the laptop, installed the card, turned on the laptop, finished new hardware installation and my instant messenger programs logged on the second the install ended. I am now sitting in my bedroom typing this review. I have the router in the corner of my basement and get no worse than 55% signal strength on the opposite end of my 3 bedroom brick ranch. I also upgraded the firmware from version 1.1 to version 2 on the router just to make sure I get the best performance. I can tell no difference in my speed between the wireless card or having it plugged directly into the router. I have noticed the need on both this router and the DI-604 that the cable modem I have (Toshiba) needs to be turned off and turned back on twice every time the routers are reset or turned off. My Roadrunner speed right now is hovering between 275-320 Kbps. Only issue I have with the thing is the plug is on the side of the transformer and is a space hog on a power strip. I like them alot better when the transformer is in line with the cord and has a regular plug. Overall I'm extremely happy with it!!Update - 2 months later and this router has never lost a connection. Only time down has been for a power outage during a storm. Wireless signal is great. I moved the router more to the center of my basement and fiddled with the location of the antenna's and have fantastic coverage everywher in the house. I even installed a 230 foot cat5 cable to my parents home and hooked up my dads computer next door with it. Now have 3 wired computers and my laptop hooked to it without any problems. I also received my rebates already from D-Link. Extremely pleased with this product

Summary: Could not get PPPOE logon to work
Review: Could not get PPPOE logon to Earthlink to work. Tried upgrading the firmware based on an FAQ on the DLink support site. Finally gave up, returned it and purchased a Netgear unit. Got the Netgear up and running in no time.
I would suggest either a Netgear or Linksys router, but no DLink products.

Summary: Warning - Do not buy!
Review: This product is horrible. I should have listened to the other reviews. While setup is easy, performance [stinks]. This router (combined with the 650+ card) slowed my Internet access to a crawl. Even after up dating the firmware it was as slow as molasses. Now that I have disconnected it - I am at full speed again. The worst part is D-Link service. Half hour on the phone, 3 emails - all no response (promise 24 hour turn around on the email.) It is clear that D-Link released this product before it was ready.

Summary: Inexpensive != Good
Review: For the first day I was very impressed with this box. However, wireless didn't work reliably until I upgraded to revision 2.0 of the firmware, and the clock didn't work reliably until Revision 2.0f. There are still several issues that may concern the networking savvy user: (i) not forwarding ICMP packets that are generated in response to a hosts UDP or TCP packets. Unix traceroute does not work out of the box, host unreachable messages don't get back, etc. (ii) when you don't specify an NTP server in the config, it picks a stratum I NTP server from a hardcoded list in the firmware. Stratum I ntp servers are *not* intended for this purpose. (iii) when you configure logging to send mail, it will include your PPPoE username and password in cleartext. Since this is also the username and password most ISPs give you to administer your account, this is a serious security risk. If you buy this product, I hope it works flawlessly for you. Otherwise you will have to deal with D-Link's abysmal technical support. They set the standard for disinterested support. Your report will be skimmed, a word picked at random, and then a stock answer from a database will be forwarded that happens to contain the word at hand. This word can be as short as "a", but rarely exceeds the length of "the", never mind the other 150 words and documentary evidence in your message. Largely because of this experience, I will be avoiding D-Link for my personal and professional networking needs. I regret not spending more money and getting a half decent product and support.

Summary: Doesn't support Earthlink DSL
Review: I bought this product b/c it was cheaper and faster than other wireless alternatives. However, I kept getting an error when trying to connect to Earthlink DSL. Tech support contradicted the web site's instructions to upgrade the firmware, then sent me to another tech support number, who agreed with the web site but still could not make it work. Finally they told me to return it. I've since found others on the newsgroups who had this same trouble. I'm not sure if there are just a bunch of faulty units, or if the firmware just flat out does not work.

Summary: This is a great Router
Review: This router is great and worked right out of the box, unlike the Linksys wireless router. The connection is strong and solid. I am able to use quite well in a two-story house. It is a great intro router and a great price!!!

Summary: Great Performance, Great Price flash the bios
Review: I got both the 614+ and the 650+ card. Setup of both was very easy. The internal network speed was great, but the external Internet speed seemed slower. I flashed the bios with 2.0 and the speed doubled immediately. I didn't detect any reduction in speed when I increased the encryption level. The speed was constant throughout the entire house.

Summary: Flaky, no support
Review: Very flaky product. Router crashes often and you have to power cycle to reboot. Tech support is non-existent. The people at the 800 number gave me another number to call which is a toll call. After 20 minutes on hold with toll charges and no answer, I gave up. I tried email. Got an automatic mailing telling me they'll respond within 24 hours. 5 days later, still nothing. Save your money.

Summary: Before you buy the DI-614+
Review: Consider the following before you buy most 802.11b products:
1. Performance on the wireless LAN is disappointing - hard to get a signal more than 25 feet from the base unit through any wall.
2. You must flash the firmware with their recent v2.0 in order to get reasonable PPoE performance.
3. No "send keep alive" option for PPoE DSL users. If you can reconcile with the unpredictability of wireless, this is still a good product at a reasonable price that is easy to configure.
