Rating: Summary: Easily Configured Review: I purchased this router back in November of 2002 when I was informed I was going to be receiving notebook with a wireless card. The unit has worked flawlessly. The encryption works perfectly with my HP (DLINK Non Proprietary) card. Windows XP recognized the connection and away I went. I will be purchasing another one for college because the router has worked so well that my family wants to keep it for a firewall. In addition, I have also used it to setup a Hard Wired Dell Computer and an old computer that I used for a web server. The router could be reached from any place with internet access and the permissions for the ports are very easily configurable. If you are going to buy a wireless router, purchase this one.
Rating: Summary: Encryption, MAC filtering, XBOX Live, ... it ALL works. Review: Everything I've thrown at this router has worked just the way I want it to. Correctly. I have been playing XBox Live with it since I got it a month ago, I've kept intruders out thanks to the MAC filtering, and I've been able to encrypt my data flying through the air with 128-bit WEP encryption. I feel safe knowing that if someone wants to join my network I need to enter their MAC address, plus they need to know the 128-bit encryption code.I also feel comfortable knowing I can play, install, or implement anything I want on my home network. This is because if I need to adjust my router's firewall or any other settings with the router I feel confident enough to do so because of the ease of use. I also get a wide area to access the AP with when I have the dwl-650+ plugged into my latptop. I can even go outside my home and access my network. I am very pleased with this product and feel confident that it will be in my network for a long time to come.
Rating: Summary: Encryption problem Review: The WEP Encryption did not work for either the 128- or 64-bit encryption. The laptop and wireless card I used worked just fine on another wireless network I set up, so this router was the problem. I called up D-Link's not-too-helpful tech support and received the suggestion that I try typing the encryption key again.
Rating: Summary: Great router... Even bought one for mom! Review: This has been a great router. I have had no problems with it whatsoever. One drawback is that even with the "AirPlus" reciever PC card, I haven't seen the promised 22mbps speed. You don't need 22mbps to surf the net though... Overall, a fantastic investment. I share my cable internet access with 3 roommates and even let the neighbor piggyback! Config settings are straightforward and easy to use. Bought one for my mom to use with her laptop... she has had no problems. I highly recommend this router!
Rating: Summary: Reboot AGAIN????!!!!!!! Review: I ended up having to go through 2 of these routers and ultimately returned both. The first one would never even connect and after calling tech support, was advised the router was bad so back it went to the store to be replaced by what looked like a "updated version". The second one actually installed seamlessly and I was up a surfing within minutes. Unfortunately, if I left my computer idle for more than 5 minutes, I would lose connectivity. Everything was fine if I continued to surf online non-stop (not very practical). After calling tech support again, they blamed "interferance" from my monitor or CPU. After moving it about 4 ft away from my puter, nothing changed as far as maintaining a connection. Two e-mails and another call to tech support had me trying to upgrade my firmware (I already had the latest version) and then blamed the wires to the router. I was sick of booting and rebooting so back it went to the store.
Rating: Summary: Flakey operation, poor range Review: I've not been terribly impressed with this box. DHCP has been flakey at best (about half the machine in the house have required manual IP selection--AT THE LEAST), and the range of the router is ridiculously poor. At my fiancee's old apartment, my TiBook could connect to the wireless networks of two of her neighbors, at my band's rehearsal space, I can get to the next apartment no problem, I've been able to war drive. With this base station, I'm 15 feet away from the base station and can't get a stable connection. Tech support, at least, is reasonably helpful, but I would definitely consider a different wifi router if I were doing it all over again.
Rating: Summary: better than I thought... Review: I expected to receive no more than 50% of the signal, because I read one comment that said, that the guy only could receive 0-30% of the signal. But when I intalled the D-link, I received around 90%, thats a lot, my net still really fast. I am using the iBook (Machintosh) and it works perfect. For me, it is the best wireless sytem ever. But I also bought the 800+ the range extander, it did not work well, this i wouldn't buy it.
Rating: Summary: Just excellent! Review: Easy to install, easy to configure, extremely versatile and just a great value in general. I loved mine so much I talked most of my friends into getting them and they all agree it's a great way to 'unwire' your home.
Rating: Summary: Cheap Price = Cheap Product Review: I purchased this with a mail in rebate. At first I had a little difficulty setting it up, Tech support was semi helpful and did get me working. Then I had my laptop with a D-link dwl650(paid $ after rebate) and a d-link CF DC660 802.11b card for my ipaq and now both wireless connections drop their connection ever few minutes. If I leave the ipaq off the laptop connection is stable. I also have a problem with the DHCP refreshing from the 614 router and read that others had the same problem. I agree with others who sense that the 22mbs is BS and can't see any speed increase. The whole world of WiFi is GREAT and surfing the net while having a Jamba Juice at the local mall is fun. The dropped sessions and DHCP problems have me wishing I had paid the extra money and got a better router. You really do get what you pay for!
Rating: Summary: Had to be rebooted too often Review: I bought this router and the D-link card. The set up was easy, and it worked fine for a while. But after every couple of days, I had to re-boot it. I found later that a firm ware upgrade would obviate the problem. But why should I need to upgrade firmware for the basic functionality. My recommendation would be to go for a tested 11 Mbps. Most people do not get internet connection over 1.5 Mbps anyhow so there is no bandwidth you are losing.
