Summary: Does not work for me
Review: I bought this Hawking Tech Bluetooth USB adapter because I wanted to surf the web wirelessly from my Sony Clie PEG-TG50 running Palm OS 5, sharing the Internet connection on my laptop.

Installation was easy enough, and WinXP had no trouble recognizing the adapter once software had been installed. But after spending the next 3 hours trying and trying, including reading all the reviews here and downloading the "latest" driver from Hawking's website and reading the guides on geekzone.co.nz, I still couldn't connect my Clie to my laptop.

I resigned to the night and tried again the next day, but still to no avail. I've e-mailed Hawking's tech support for some guidance. But any device that requires tons of tinkering and hours and hours of trial-and-errors is just not right. Regardless of what the eventual outcome is, the Hawking Tech Bluetooth USB Adapter deserves just one star.

I guess to be fair to Hawking, their hardware is ok. It's very small and has an indicator LED. The problem is most likely the BT driver software from Widcomm they include. It's totally useless, and the electronic help file is totally useless. For example, no support info is available for Windows XP.

Totally disappointed.

Summary: Great product
Review: I bought this to connect my laptop with my Tungsten T. It works great. I run Win XP and can even connect to the net through my computer. Easy to install and configure. I highly recommend it!

NOTE: If you want to surf the net with your Palm and are using WebPro for Palm, you need to download the update from Palm. Otherwise you will receive an error!!

Review: I bought this to connect my Windows XP laptop with the Nokia 3650 and it works like a charm. Comes with drivers, software, and a short usb extension cable. Can't beat the price!

Summary: works like a charm
Review: I connected my pc (WinXP) & my Nokia 3650 in about 10 minutes, right out of the box. I didn't bother downloading anything, I just used the cd's that came w/ the Hawking adapter and the phone.

If, after you install Nokia's PC Suite, you get an error message that says something like "Error creating Bluetooth connection" - just ignore it. You can see the mRouter icon in your tray is active. It's a "known issue" w/ Nokia but it's only a display - the connection's really there.

I gave this 4 stars, not 5, because while it was easy to set up, the 'manual' is practically non-existant. I followed the step by step instructions. ...

Review: I dled the latest program and drivers (never use included drivers)
since bt is new to me, I have to take about 45 mins to figure out how to make connection
the first step you have to set up name and passcode (on both side)
then YOU MUST GO TO "my bluetooth places", find bluetooth serial port, connect it (every time when your phone gets disconnected)
then check mRouter, find and check connected COM port
after that, your phone is hooked up, BANG!!!
it works nicely with n3650, just don't separate too far, or you have to connect bt serial port again
tip: if you don't want to get annoying prompt again and again on phone when you connect, just go to Menu->Connectivity->Bluetooth, then go to paired device, authorize the host device, that's it, no more annoying prompt

one more, if you use realplayer, YOU MUST disable bttray.exe upon startup (use msconfig), it don't affect the connection, because this prog screws up realplayer

Summary: Worked with Tungsten T3
Review: I first bought the iogear bluetooth dongle - it claims a greater range - but it didn't work. Intending to suprise me, my husband bought me this one from Hawking and it worked right away!

Palm support claimed the web pro client couldn't use the bluetooth connection for websurfing (idiots) lots of folks do. Palm just doesn't make it easy and its not written up anywhere. Several different solutions are out there if you search, I tried 4 before landing on this one and it worked for me - http://www.whizoo.com/bt_setup/

Summary: Connectivity problems with Nokia 3650
Review: I had a nightmare trying to connect my Nokia 3650 to my PC running XP. The adapter comes with Widcomm Bluetooth software 1.2.2.18. There was no update available from the Hawking's website. Installing the software and the bluetooth adapter was straight forward. However, trying to get a connection established between the PC and the phone was a huge ordeal. Every time I initiated a connection and enter all the passcodes, I get an error message saying the phone disconnected. There is no explaination why this error occured. When I tried to reconnect, I get another error message. It took me a while to realize I needed to unpair both the phone and the pc before a new connection will work. I tried connecting from the pc, the phone and reinstalling the software. Nothing worked. During the reinstall, windows couldn't find bluetooth device driver. Pointing windows to the cdrom didn't work. Only pointing it to c:/windows/system32 got me past that one. After pulling my hair out for 5 hours, I finally found the solution using a google search.

1. unpair the phone and pc
2. find the COM port used in the bluetooth setup->config->local services->bluetooth serial port
3. configure mRouter to use the COM port found above
4. connect/pair the phone and pc
5. you still get the connect error message
6. start PC Suite

Steps 2 and 3 are very important. Once I did all that, the connection worked. I don't know if the problem was because of the phone or Widcomm's software, but I got it to work. I hope this helps anyone else who may encounter the same problem.

Summary: A pain at first but....
Review: I had the dreaded connectivity problems with my Nokia 3650 as others have had. But here is my solution because the one that the previous reviewer had didn't quite work for me. Ok, here are my steps:

1. Install the bluetooth software on the CD (not from the website - version 1.35 I believe).
2. Install PC suite from Nokia website. (On the reboot, there should be the mRouter icon in the system tray. Right click it and select properties and make sure both COM3 and COM4 are checked.)
3. Make sure bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
4. Open "My bluetooth places" icon.
5. Click "Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood" and your phone should appear.
6. Pair the pc to phone (any code will do).
7. Right-click the now-paired phone icon and select "connect bluetooth serial port". An error may appear, check to see if the mRouter icon changes. If it does, then you can now open PC suite. Done.

Some problems I have encountered were on the reboot of my system. My PC "forgot" what the bluetooth dongle was. I simply unplugged it and plugged it back in and that worked for me. Also if you have problems re-establishing connection, unpair the phone AND pc, turn off phone, reboot PC,and then start at step #3 again. This may not be the ideal solution for everyone but it worked for me. Hope this helps!

Summary: It works but not compatible
Review: I have a Nokia 3650 cell phone that this adapter is not compatible with. The adapter was able to pair with the phone, but the adapter did not support bluetooth serial port profile. It would be nice if Hawking technologies would list in the description which profiles it supported. It obviously doesn't support them all.

Summary: poor product quality and poor support
Review: i have a nokia n-gage which runs on the symbian OS. upon installing this i realized that this product does not support the profiles required to run the mrouter program for the phone. so i called the company, which doesn't have a 1-800 number, to see what they could do about it. I spoke to the rudest customer support rep i've ever encounted. he barely spoke english and when i asked him what kind of profiles did this bluetooth usb adapter support and he didnt even know what i was talking about. i will never even touch another product made by hawkin ever again!
