Rating: Summary: Great product but room for improvement Review: I bought this product so that I could setup a wireless network in my apartment. I am using a linksys wireless card on my laptop to communicate with the wireless access point. The transmission quality is not the best, and it doesnt reach the advertised distance. You can setup WEP between the accesspoint and the laptop with a minimum amount of difficulty, but the main point is that it doesn't go the advertised distance. But if you have the 2.4 Ghz wireless phone it rarely interferes with the communication. I hope you find this review helpful.
Rating: Summary: The Best and the easiest Review: Hello There I'm new in the network communication environment. I'm a soldier stationed in Germany where Internet service is REALLY expensive because we pay telephone plus Internet charges. I decided to move to wireless because of the infrastructure limitations and the cost that we have here. I bought the LAN/DSL 4 Port router, the WAP11 instant wireless, 2 network card adapters and 3 PC Wireless cards. The result is just FANTASTIC. The set up is so easy that you cannot imagine plus if you have a question customer service is really helpful. I have 2 HP 1.6 G Pentium IV, my printer and my laptop working together. I pay just for one Internet connection, and I can read my news on my laptop on my bed without no cables at all about 50 meters away from my WAP11; of course when my girl friend let me.(^_^).
Rating: Summary: Cheap and reliable wireless network access point Review: It is a great product and very easy to use for home or small business. I'm using cable modem at home with two desktop computers and a laptop. The laptop has PCMCIA wireless card (from Lucent) and desktops have Linksys wireless USB (WUSB11). It took me less than two hours to set up and benchmark results of the whole network. It is a totally wireless solution for me, no more ethernet cables between walls or rooms, the laptop works anywhere in the house including the patio area. (...):Direct connection: 1. From the cable modem is around 2.0Mbs (megabit per seconds) Wireless: 2. From the same floor: 1.8Mbs 3. From the different floor: 1.5Mbs 4. Backyard: 128Kbs Besides having the accessing to cable modem from anywhere in the house, I also can share information between computers.
Rating: Summary: Work fine with Windows 2000 Review: I first bought this thinking that it's going to take awhile to get this to work. I bought this plus WPC11 from Amazon. I also got an Orinoco PC card silver from another vendor (...) Anyway, the entire setup including unpacking the box and installing the software took only 4 minutes. I was able to surf the Internet and browse my local network. I'm running Windows 2000. USB runs fine. Pop the Orinoco card in, install the driver, and change SSID, Done. I was up and running with both PC card on two different laptops running Windows 2000 in under 10 min. The manual looks a little scary and confusing. So I didn't bother with it. I was able to do the entire install and setup without the manual. I have not try the range test yet, but sharing the hub (within couple offices on the same floor,) the speed and connection seems to be fine. Good luck.
Rating: Summary: Do not buy this product Review: I've had this product for a few days, and it's going right back into the box it came in and being sent back. For one, the device needs to be rebooted once a day, or the clients will lose the signal. I've tested this on both Windows2000 and Linux clients running two different Orinoco Gold Cards. Second, the signal strength isn't even close to the advertized specs. I start losing signal about 30 feet away from the device, with a clear line of sight! Third, support is non-existant. I've waited on hold for over a half hour to be disconnected. I think the only reason they set the retail price so high is so it'll compare with Lucent/Agere and Cisco solutions price-wise. Some people believe that a high retail price constitutes a good product, and this access point will prove otherwise.
Rating: Summary: Easy setup, serves most needs Review: The base unit was easy to set up and I was online with a minimum of hassle. The throughput wasn't what I expected it to be, but for most of my purposes that's not a problem. The USB setup procedure was fairly straightforward. I changed the default security information just because I didn't want to be using the same defaults as anyone else in the neighborhood, although I suspect the range is limited enough that it shouldn't be a major problem. The link works well except for things like network backups which can take all night.
Rating: Summary: Works okay with Apple's Airport Card Review: I got this for my Mac because Apple is charging twice as much for the base station. I set it up pretty quicky with a PC but it took me a few hours of researching online to figure out how to enter the WEP password in my Mac (dollar sign "$" plus "Key 1"). The signal is good; it gives me good speed (I have dsl) throughout the house (3 levels). One Problem thus far: The signal seems to disappear if I don't use it for a long time (in the morning or when I came home from work). I have to restart it twice a day and it's annoying. I will exchange it this weekend and if the problem is fixed, I will post another review.
Rating: Summary: Cheap Wireless Review: The LinkSys WAP11 is very neat looking. Its performance however isn't as attractive. For the most part it works fine, however it need periodic power cyclings which make use exceedingly annoying. Useful if you don't have the money to spend on other products, but you pay for the cheapness with a few quirks.
Rating: Summary: [Affordable], Reliable and Easy To Use! Review: I've been using this product for over 6 months now. The only annoying thing about it is that [I paid more for it than what it costs now]! Oh well! I've found it to be very reliable, and setting it up was very simple. Take my advice though - use a decent wireless card with it. I only use the Orinoco Wavelan cards (Silver and Gold) on my wireless network. I have four machines (3 laptops and 1 desktop) connected wirelessly located throughout my house. All get great reception through multiple walls, and my AP is even located next to my home theatre system.
Rating: Summary: Linksys WAP11, Limited Range Review: I configured this wireless access point on a 3-Com cable modem, along with its companion Linksys WPC11 card in an IBM i1400 Thinkpad laptop. The WPC11 PC card caused many problems in setup and operation of the laptop. When I did get everything running the range was limited to about 20 feet (line of sight, no obstructions). This is far below the published specifications. Technical support from Linksys was essentially unavailable. I returned both products as unacceptable.
