Rating: Summary: Everyday people... Review: ...should love this card. No matter what others may say, this card is in fact a great value. True, other cards perform better, but they also cost more and you have to decide what you are really looking for in the end. If you are simply looking for some portability around the house, you've got the right card. The every day Joe will be happy (I'm an every day Joe, and I've been happy with this card for 6 months - buying a second one today). One caveat! Linksys support is marginal. Initially, I had trouble with my card during setup, and 1 out of the 4 reps I talked to actually knew what was wrong. The rest were simply robots going through the step by steps common on technical support lines.
Rating: Summary: PC Card works great. Review: I was a bit worried about what version of the card I would get based on other people's reviews. I got version 3 of the card and the range on it is fantastic. I have a 2600 sq. ft. house and the Linksys hub/transmitter is in the basement, I got 80-100% signal strength on the second floor of my house.Install was a bit tricky with Windows 98 because I did not have the original OS cd, but Windows 2000 Professional worked with no problems. I highly reccomend this product!
Rating: Summary: Use it right, and it treats you right. Review: It took me about 5 minutes to set up the card (installing, configuring, etc.), and another 5 to set up the wireless router. Everything went as smooth as could be, and I was surfing the net at high speed while walking around my house in under 15 minutes. I'm figuring most complaints stem from someone who might have missed a step or two. Though technical know-how would help, it's not rocket science....true plug-n-play here, folks. (I run a Pentium 300/128Mb RAM laptop with WinME).
Rating: Summary: Poor range - even worse with XP Review: I have a small house (less than 1000 Sq. Ft.) and there are areas I do not get a signal. Usually I get a weak signal at best unless I am in the same room as the Access Point. I have XP on my laptop and had to use the Win2K drivers because the XP drivers were not available. I loaded the XP drivers when they were released and it acutally decreased my performance even more. I reverted back to the Win2K drivers it was so bad.
Rating: Summary: ATTENTION XP USERS!! Review: I have the following products by Linksys: BEFW11S4 - Wireless Access Point DSL Router w/ 4-Port Switch (2) WPC 11 - Version 2 WDT 11 -Wireless PCI Adapter I have 2 desktops and a Laptop, ALL RUNNING WINDOWS XP PRO. One desktop is wired to the Router via CAT5. The other desktop has the PCI Adapter and WPC11 card. The laptop has only the card, obviously. Bottom Line: After 5 hours on hold with Linksys, and several hours on the phone with Tech Support, I am awaiting a RMA, Return Merchandise Authorization. We could get shared DSL to work with the wired desktop and the laptop, but never on the wireless desktop. In fact, the configuration utility showed that the device never even fired up. Nobody at Linksys has a clue, but the tech support guy at least admitted that 90% of their calls are regarding the WPC 11 card. He acknowledged that every single day, he has unresolved problems with XP compatibility. I'm currently left with an unstable operating system on my best machine, after installing a driver that wasn't yet approved for XP, at the direction of Tech Support. I'm off to search for a wireless solution that works. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, YOUR TIME. This product is not ready for XP as of March 24, 2002. UPDATE: BOUGHT NETGEAR DEVICES - HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!
Rating: Summary: Effortless Review: I was expecting a hiccup in the installation, but installing this in an IBM Thinkpad in conjunction with a Linksys Wireless Router, it installed with no problems or errors. Immediately after installation, I had an IP address in Windows 98. Signal strength is pretty good in a pre-WWII style apartment.
Rating: Summary: Ver. 3. worked well with me. Noise coupled to speaker. Review: It works fine for the first time... Only minor problem is that there is a few noise heard from the laptop speaker. 4 stars.
Rating: Summary: Might as well use wires Review: Not too long ago I purchased a Linksys wireless access point + cable/dsl router, and a wireless pc card. The advertised range on the pc card states "over 300 ft. indoors" - which is an outright lie. To be more realistic the linksys people should have said "over 15 ft. indoors" - as not to mis-lead their customers. If I sit in front of the access point I get a great signal (around 96%). However, if I put my hand in front of the pc card - It diminishes signal quality almost 50%. Therefore, if there is a wall between you and the access point - don't expect to get a great signal. If there are two walls, don't expect to get a signal at all. I'm on a second floor, less than 30' away from the AP - and I get nothing. If you plan on using this product for what it is advertised to do, don't bother - it's a waste of money and you might as well just use wires. If only plan on roaming 30' or less from the access point, and you're in the same room - with no walls in between; this product is for you. And from now on as a general rule of thumb - divide the advertised range on any linksys wireless product by 10.
Rating: Summary: easy to set up and use but it stopped working after 6 months Review: i bought this and was happy w/ it for six months. then it totally stopped working.. the laptop cannot recognize it anymore.. linksys has pretty good support. just tell them and the cross ship one to you in a few days. conclusion-- decent card.. but w/ the short range and other problems.. i will much prefer getting the orinoco ones, which is only a little bit more expensive. but if you don't mind the short range stuff.. then sticking w/ this is fine since they have pretty responsive tech support. i did not called.. email seems to be a pretty quick communication tool for me:)
Rating: Summary: a so-so wireless card Review: I bought a Linksys Wireless AP+4 port switch and it works well. This Linksys card works with it also. But after reviewing the reivews for Linksys PC ard and Netgear PC card I decided to try Netgear also. Yes Netgear does better than Linksys. I used to get fair, sometimes no singal at upstaires. But with Netgear (WA401) it's always good connection! I strongly recommend Netgear plus Linksys AP! (As for AP, I also tried D-link 713P. I even tried 2 of them and none of them worked. It had cost me 8+ hours before I tried the Linksys, which plug and play!)
