Rating: Summary: I Love it! Review: I bought this adapter along with the Lynksys wireless router. Both work great!! Easy to set up and works as advertised (Be sure to do the firmware upgrade). Great Geek Toy!
Rating: Summary: WUSB11 Review: The device work flawlessly and fast.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic product! USB,Linux-compatible,with MMCX connector Review: This review is about version 2.5. Version 2.6 sold now... stinks. Version 2.5 is a fantastic product: 1. It works great with Linux as it is true Prism2 device (v2.6 does not as it is ATMEL AT76C503A device) 2. It is USB - you can extend the cable up to 25m! 3. You can disassemble it (voiding warranty of course) and inside you find popular (used in cisco) MMCX connector for external antenna!(this is also not true for v2.6 which has antenna soldered directly to the board) The only small problem is range but for [price] v2.5 it's a great deal anyway.
Rating: Summary: USB wireless adapter. Review: A piece of cake to set up and use. First install drivers, reboot and then plug in adapter. Windows "finds" usb adapter, installs drivers, case closed. Make certain you get version 2.5 with the small antenna that stands up. Earlier version should be all gone by now but... Excellent product.
Rating: Summary: Works but watch where you put it Review: Careful to put the adaptor at a high place like on top of your desk hutch. Do the same for the wireless access point. It makes a much better signal.
Rating: Summary: Linksys WUSB11 Wireless USB Review: I was a little skeptical going into this purchase because all of my systems run XP and I've read negative reviews about this Network Adapter running under XP. I followed the manufactures recommendation and DID NOT use the driver that shipped with the product, opting instead to let XP automatically detect it. After fine tuning the encryption settings the card has ran flawlessy for about 4 weeks now. My access point is about 45 feet away and I'm still getting 100% signal strength. One thing to note though is that with encryption tuned up to 64 bits, my actual through put is around 3.5mb/sec. Plenty for surfing the net and occasional file access.
Rating: Summary: Very often, the connection is lost. Review: The installation was fairly simple, after being gone through the experience of the installation (and trouble shooting) of the main router(befw11s4). However, my remote PC was only about 20 feet and a drywall away from the main router, the connection has been very unstable. The wireness communication between the remote PC and the main router only works, in average, one out of five times. I heard that the newer version (ver. 2.5) works better. I am going to replace mine with the new version (specially with the newly-attached antena) and see if it improves the wireless network performance. I do not recommend the older version that does not come with the attached antena.
Rating: Summary: If only "Zero Stars" was an option Review: LinkSys's Quality Control has gone to hell in both firmware and hardware. Customer support is abysmal at best Even LinkSys tech support encourages users to strongly consider using the 2.5 Version of this Hardware (which has an external antenna). The XP driver is highly problematic. Suffice it to say, I will NOT recommend another LinkSys product to clients, colleagues, or friends... Bill Machrone of PC Magazine and ExtremeTech.com has also written about some problems with LinkSys products ...A LinkSys tech support person actually told me that articles and reviews by users will make no difference, because they keep getting editorial awards from publications. I assume they won't mind this review then.. Keith
Rating: Summary: Exellent Review: Works flawlessly. I had a minor challenge to overcome in my set-up (see below), but once I figured it out, everything works superbly. A very nice feature is the ability of the WUSB11 to search for all broadcasting stations in its area. Here's my set-up and my lesson learned, using 2 WUSB11 and a BEFW11S4 Linksys Cable/ DSL Router w/4-Port Switch. I have a cable modem and my main computer (a Dell laptop with Windows 2000 Professional) hooks to the router via hardwired ethernet. That part was up and running in minutes, just using the defaults. Web-page set-up is very practical. My 2 other computers (both less than 20ft away in 2 bedrooms above the office where the router sits) are desktops with Windows 98 SE and were successfully connected using the WUSB11 wireless network adapter. The only problem I encountered there in the set-up was due to the fact that these computer also had a NIC network card in them (unused) and during set-up it defaulted to imposing a static IP address. Linksys tech. support didn't figure the problem out, although I was lucky to be connected to them only within 15 minutes and the trouble-shooter was fairly knowledgeable. I found the problem myself the next day after a good night sleep. Not a typical problem and was readily resolved. If you have the same issue, make sure you check the settings for TCP/IP of your interface card to ensure that it has the settings you want (in my case it had to be "obtain IP automatically"). Even though it's not part of the network I use (since I use the USB adaptor), it seems to cause conflicts if not set-up properly. I can't complain about the wireless range, but my needs are very modest since all three systems are less than 20ft from one another. I routinely get the 11 Mbps with 100% quality and between 80% and 100% signal strength.
Rating: Summary: value for money Review: Cheap, works perfectly... what more do you want? It can't do miracles (i.e. send radio signals through lead) but in a typical wood frame house like mine it almost always keeps the signal fast and clear over about 15m.
