Summary: Works real well, with a couple of oddities...
Review: I got two of these, and a Linksys wireless access point (to go along with the Linksys cable modem and the Linksys router/switch). On a laptop running Windows ME, it installed perfectly just as advertised. On a desktop system running Windows 98SE, it had some installation glitches although after uninstalling and reinstalling four times it did work -- and once it worked, it works great. I suspect there was a conflict with some other software, although nothing told me so and only a little trial and error finally fixed it. Through several walls and a floor/ceiling, I'm getting 100% signal strength, 97% link quality, and 11 Mbps.

Summary: Works plug and play
Review: I installed the software on my Sony Viao then plugged in the wusb11. It connected immediately to my Apple Airport without a hitch. This product works.

Summary: Don't Buy WUSB11 version 2.6
Review: I received my my wireless USB network adapter, Linksys WUSB11 ver. 2.6, from Amazon.com a week ago and spent many hours to get it working.

1. The adapter comes with a USB cable, which has a "To USB Adapter" label at one end of the cable. After installed the adapter software, I connected that end to the wireless adapter and the other end to my computer. The adapter's Power LED lighted up, but my computer cannot detect the new device. Before I gave up this defect product, I reversed the cable connection to make my computer to recognize it.

2. Encryption WEP with 64 bits does not work. Under this encryption scheme, DHCP gets wrong IP configuration. I had to use either no encryption or 128-bit encryption.

3. Software installation is straightforward and easy. The graphical user interface looks nice though. That worths one star.

4. I have spent enough time with this Linksys product which should be classified as a defect. I will not buy any Linksys product again.

Summary: You can't go wrong with this device!
Review: I just purchased this wireless USB adapter (WUSB11 - ver 2.6) today - to go along with my Linksys WAP router. It was truly Plug-n-Play - I followed the (easy) instructions (for Win 2k - on a Dell Latitude) and it came up and connected as soon as I plugged it into the USB port. I'm in Heidelberg, Germany and live in a concrete 4-level house - and my router is located two floors below the laptop location. I have a consistent 97-100% signal strength at 11 Mbps - which is much faster than my DSL connection. I saw some reviews here on Amazon which suggested that you be sure to get ver 2.6 if you're using Win XP. This is a fantastic device - I can't believe I waited so long to get one.

Summary: Problem with WUSB11 v2.6, Win XP Pro, and SSID Broadcast
Review: I have a linksys usb wireless WUSB11 v2.6 attached to a Win XP Pro machine, accessing a linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router/switch. I installed the WUSB11 following the directions in the box for XP - a little confusing, but not bad.

Everything works (including WEP) as long as I leave
Broadcast enabled at the access point. However, if I
disable broadcast to hide my network from outsiders the WUSB11/XP machine can no longer see the network (my other machine using linksys wireless PC card and Win 2000 works whether Broadcast is enabled or disabled.) I actually tried using both XP Home and XP Pro - same results.

I read an article in the linksys knowledge base about
"Securing Your Wireless LAN" which mentioned a problem
of XP machines not seeing the network if Broadcast was
disabled because of the XP zero config utility. The
article said something about manually entering your
SSID, but that didn't seem to work.

So, I called linksys tech support. I called 3 times and got 3
different answers after waiting 10-30 minutes:
1) that's interesting, let us check and we'll get back
to you - of course nobody ever got back to me
(although the guy was very helpful on the phone in
getting my WEP enabled, just not with the Broadcast
issue)
2) you have to reinstall the WUSB11 using linksys
utilities instead of the XP zero config utilities - I
tried, but didn't have detailed enough instructions to
get it to work so went back to the zero config install
3) it cannot be fixed.

So, at this point I still don't know if the WUSB11 can be used with XP Broadcast disabled at the access point - I just know that nobody at linksys tech support can give me a straight answer.

Summary: Defective Unit
Review: After reading (at least one other) review(s) about a defective unit, I was apprehesive about purchasing the Linksys USB. However, I also heard that in home wireless networks, you are wise to be brand-loyal...that there are interoperability issues from vendor-to-vendor.

I have a Linksys Wireless Router with which I am quite pleased. Also, I have a Linksys 4-port wired router which has performed flawlessly since the day I bought it almost two years ago.

However, when I plugged in the Linksys USB adaptor, it simply didn't work. That is, when I physically plugged-in the USB cable to my laptop (HP Pavilion running Win98SE), absolutely nothing happened. I did the same on my home-built ABit-based Win2000 server, with the same result.

Disappointed, I returned the Linksys for a Netgear USB and it installed and performs flawlessly.

I have also had bad experience with Linksys' PCMCIA wireless adaptors...the antenna seems to be of poor quality resulting in horrific range (lost connection ~100 ft in an open-air office!). My guess is that Linksys has nailed their larger WIFI products, but has not maintained good quality control on their smaller WIFI offerings.

By the way, I have NO interoperability problems with my Netgear+Linksys wireless network.

Summary: Wow ! Wow ! Wow ! Umm!
Review: Wow ! It is small. I thought it will be the same size as a regular modem. It is so small that I can hide it inside my palm.

Wow ! I set it up in 5 minutes. I follow the instruction and it is up in 5 minutes. I thought this will be a long process as I read from most of the reviews. One GOOD hint, make sure you are getting the new release 2.6. It is compatible with XP. I heard most of the problems are with release 2.5 or older. If you visit the linksys web site and bring up the release 2.5 specification. It never said it will work with Windows XP. If you look at the specification for release 2.6, it said it is compatible with Windows XP. I just got my USB adapter from Amazon.com and it is version 2.6. The diagram it displays is version 2.5.

Wow ! It works with different brand router right away. I got a Dlink wireless router DI614+. I plugged in the linksys USB adapter to my desktop. It detected the device. I chose the driver from the CD. It copied the files and it detected my SSID right away. I entered the WEP key and it is up and running.

Umm ! It takes slightly longer to find my LAN after I reboot.
I powered up my machine. The windows was up and running but I still didn't see the network connection icon at my system tray. I waited for about 2 minutes. The network icon finally came up and I am connected to the internet.
It is too bad that Dlink doesn't come with it's own wireless USB adapter. Dlink can provides 22mbps connection. Linksys provides only 11 mbps.

... It has been two weeks since I bought my USB adapter. It is still up and running. The DLink wireless hub and the Linksys USB adapter are on different floor, I got 100% signal strength.

Summary: Doesn't work
Review: Bought it for my son's computer (home for the winter break from college), simply didn't work. Linksys support had nothing to offer, turned out to be defective. Returned it, bought a Netgear USB adapter, plugged it in, and had him online in minutes.

Summary: Works good after replacement
Review: I got a version 2.6 wireless USB adaptor and it didn't work after installed the driver on WinXP. Bascially the adaptor was able to detect the internet connection and see the computers on the network but the connections are super slow. I spent 45 min waiting for tech support from Linksys and they told me that there's something wrong with the board and asked me to fill out a RMA online. The next day I dropped by the Linksys office and got a replacement of my bad board. Good customer service. The replacement works good although it's a refurbish unit. I'm still having problem playing Divx file through a network PC.

Summary: Excellent Product
Review: Does what is says and reception is great. Less than 2 minutes configuration time to connect to the Linksys WAP\Router and get working.
