Summary: Failed But Amazon Has Compensated Me Well
Review: I purchased a BEFW11S4 from Amazon/LinkSys on November 18th and the wireless portion has never worked (I also purchased a wireless CF, and wirless PC card). I thought that I just couldn't figure out the proper configuration until I finally got a hold of LinkSys technical support this weekend and they walked me through numerous setting changes. In the end they told me that I need to get a new BEFW11S4....

Summary: extremely easy to setup
Review: I've had no problems at all with this device. The setup/adminstration is web-based and intuitive. Occasionally the router needs to be rebooted but I'm not sure if that is due to my DSL modem or the router.

Summary: Hit or miss
Review: This appears to be a great product if you can get past the setup. I bought this on the recommendation of my father-in law who set it up in his house and had no problems. My experience was far different.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and use Pac Bell DSL. It appears that Pac Bell originally gave me an IP address that worked with my desktop Windows 98 but wouldn't work with the Linksys product or my new Dell laptop with Windows XP. XP identified my IP address as invalid despite the fact that it had worked for two years on Windows 98 on the desktop. So after a very short time I was dead in the water regarding the setup and Pac Bell had no answers
So a long story short, I had my IT guy at work come home with me and after 4 long hours and two Pac Bell technical people on the phone (the first rep was stumped and had no answers) we finally got it working on the new laptop. The desktop never did work and we finally just swapped out of Windows 98 and into Windows 2000 and then we were finally able to raise the browser. The Linkys had pinged the internet on the desktop 98 but we weren't able to get it to open the browser. I took my IT friend to a very nice dinner afterward for his help.
Bottom line, easy if you are lucky, but it can turn into a disaster if you don't have networking IT expertise or access to it. Be prepared if you buy it that it could take a while to get it right.

Summary: The Perfect Home Networking Solution
Review: This product is great. I recieved and my 12 year old son had it running within 1/2 an hour. We bought a Linksys wireless card too. That also works great. My broadband ISP used to charge me for two computer names but now I only need one because the router is the one that needs the name, not all of the computers.
By the way if you are using Windows XP, use the Windows 2000 drivers. I found that out from some other reviewers. The reception is gret and the speed is great. So if your broadband ISP charges by the name and you want wireless, GET THIS PRODUCT!

Summary: so far so good
Review: I bought the BEFW11S4 before Christmas and the only complaint I have about it is that the range of 300ft advertised is questionable. I have the device in a corner of my house and when I am on the opposite end of the house (as far as I can be away inside) the signal quality is poor, almost to the point of non-functional. This is no where near close to 300 feet distance I am talking about, maybe 80 feet.

Other than that, the support was good, the setup was easy, and I have two PCs running through mine and can add a couple more, so I'd say this device meets my needs and the company stands by it.

Summary: Best Choice for SOHO, Home, or Small Office Use
Review: This Linksys product is superior to several other similar products I have installed. It is THE one I recommend to all my smaller clients. It is easy to install, highly reliable, and works great! 100% of those that I have purchased and received have worked excellently the first time I installed them. It is well built and the installation materials are superior to its competitors. As an IT consultant, I do a considerable number of personal, small and medium size business installations of broadband sharing networks. This is not only the one I recommend for 4 or less computers, but the one I use in my own home office! Excellent product at a reasonable price. Definitely works as advertised! One more note, the non-wireless based model, the BEFSR41, is also excellent for those that don't need wireless capability!

Summary: Works Great, Easy Setup
Review: I had this thing set up in under 10 minutes. I forgot to unplug my cable modem and plug it back in ro refresh settings after hooking up to the router, my mistake and what caused an extra 5 minutes. This was about the easiest piece of electronic equipment I've purchased. I too am not a newbie but the Quick Instruction Sheet is easy to follow and setup is easy even if you are not at all tech savvy. Now I have more than one computer set up on my network and wireless! I recommend highly!

Summary: Best one we found yet
Review: We had a "cheap" router before to hook up to the cable modem, and it was always losing the connection for some reason. We bought this to replace it and add wireless connectivity to the house, and we are very pleased we did.

Summary: just didn't work
Review: I got one of these bad boys and plugged in the ethernet and like it didn't work. I could load the admin page, but it took like minutes with frequent timeouts. Completely broke for sure. I returned it and then tried netgear, you know what, it ... too. If I turned off my wireless, had to restart the netgear to issue new DHCP addresses, wack. So I got the D-Link DI713 and it was truly 5 minute setup. Zero problems. Top of the line. Quality. ....Oh yeah, same price. Take my word for it, go D-Link.
