Summary: Difficult but excellent
Review: This wireless online process was much more compicated than I thought it would be. I followed the instructions to the T but couldn't get this thing to work on the internet. I had to call tech support and wait entirely too long for help. The man who finally ended up helping me didn't speak the best English but he was very nice and worked hard to get the problem fixed. It took about 4 hours to get up and going but now that I have it, I absolutely LOVE it! Excellent signal and speed- I just wish it had been easier to install.

Summary: Good product,
Review: I bought both the 54g router and card. geat products. Turned the router into an access point becasue had another router. Took a few changes to the router setup page, but works great. I get about 24 MBPS while sitting on my toilet other side of house - lol, otherwise I get a strong signal about 50 feet away. Don't worry about the "draft" IEEE 54g standard label. Just buy the card and either access point or router and be happpy. Card worked first time I fired it up. I have A DEll.

Summary: Great Product/Watch for XP Conflicts
Review: First, hats off to Linksys for a great Web site! Everything you ever wanted to know about their products or networking is there. I hooked up the house with a wireless network. At the center of it all is the WRT54G Router. Works incredibly well, except it may be helpful to know that I experienced problems when I first hooked up the wireless card on my Gateway 600X with Win XP Pro. The signal kept dropping out every 5 minutes. After much frustration, I called Tech Support. While it took over an hour, the rep relentless to figure out the issues, instructed me to disable the XP Wireless interface and use the Linksys interface. Seeems there was a software conflict causing the issue and while Linksys should look into this, my wireless network is humming along beautifully now. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to get unwired.

Summary: Excellent product! Setup in 10 minutes.
Review: I just received the Linksys 54G router and network card and within 10 minutes I was surfing the net. I couldn't tell a difference in connection speed between my old hardwire cable modem and the 54G wireless system. I did have some issues getting connected via my secure company connection though. Other than that, it was instant and fast. Now I can work on the back deck with a beer at cable modem speed without wires. The freedom is well worth the money.

Summary: Nice product, great management options
Review: I acquired this product from Amazon two weeks ago, and I am well pleased with its operation and setup. My situation is somewhat more complicated because my internet access is through a StarBand SatModem 360. For reasons that I can't get into here, installation in a StarBand enabled network is decidedly nonstandard. But after a little head scratching and experimentation, it came up and ran perfectly. Installing a 54g card in my Dell laptop and an 802.11b card in another PC went smoothly once the router was properly configured. The only cavet I'll offer is that you reall yneed t oknow your stuff if you wander of into the weeds of unique network configs. Integrating any router with decent management capability into a net is seldom a non-trivial exercise. But the flip side is that it took less than five minutes from powerup to get a PC recognized on my home net and fully operational. Very cool. So, Id recommend this product on the basis of its low cost, good build quslity and a respectable management suite. ... change the admin password pronto. USe anything except 'admin', for crying out loud. Most hacks that succeed do so because someone got lazy or careless.

Summary: Worked Prefectly with Compaq W200 802.11b
Review: Purchased the Linksys WRT54G and had it up and running in 5 minutes!! It worked perfectly with my Compaq Evo N800c w/ integrated W200 USB wireless 802.11b LAN adapter. I had no problems at all with this unit (tried both the December 2002 firmware that shipped with the unit and the newer January 2003 firmware).

Linksys is a solid company with great products! Another satisfied customer...

Summary: SHAMEFULL!!!
Review: I would be willing to bet everyone who likes this product has no knowledge of networking or bandwidth. I only get 0.5 to 0.8 Mbits 15' away! The bandwidth rating of 54Mbits is a complete lie. Most of the time the system tray icon will say that you're getting 54Mbits. Howevever, I'm an IT professional so I tested the bandwidth with networking tools which reveal only 0.5Mbits. To make matters worse Lynksys tech support gave me the run arround and then hung up on me!

Summary: Starting new broadband sharing network?
Review: Then this is the way to go. Setup in XP was instant and intuitive. However, your PC cards should also be Linksys "g" rated, as interoperability has been a problem on some "b" cards.
The main advantage of this system over its predecessor is the ability to open a wider pipeline between clients. Therefore, if you have a really robust connection (like a T3), this will help. If you are sharing a cable modem or DSL, it's probably not going to be noticeable. Linksys quality and tech support have been outstanding.

Summary: Great product, as long as you don't need tech support
Review: Nice and fast; strong signal. Even 802.11b cards got a stronger signal with better signal quality, than with the Linksys 802.11b wireless router. Has worked with Linksys, Netgear, US Robotics, SMC and other generic name cards.

I tried to bridge two of these to support a remote network. LinkSys tech support kept me on the phone for 75 minutes trying to come up with a solution (they said it was possible, they were just trying to work out how). In the end, they gave up.

Summary: Linksys wrt54g Should be recalled!
Review: I say that becasue on the box, it says it is backward compatible with 802.11b devices. It isn't, plain and simple. To get it to work with b devices, you need to download and install updated firmware. IMO, a product that doesn't do what the box says it does until you upgrade it, should be recalled. Also, this is a common complaint of users of this AP. It wasn't an isolated experience that just happened to me. Secondly, the range is about one quarter of what it was with the router/AP I had before this one. There may be ways to improve range, but I didn't buy this AP to spend time tweaking it. I was hoping it would work well out of the box. I was way wrong. On the upside, it has plenty of features, and I'm sure linksys will get it right eventually. I'd avoid this product though.
