Summary: Buyer Beware
Review: I myself am planning on buying an wifi-G router from linksys -- eventually, but not right now. If you are going to buy a wifi-G access point (this is a router + access point) then this is the best one to date, and leaves the access point only version in the dust. But this is a broken standard they implemented this on, and ther eis no garauntee it will ever work properly in a properly implemented wifi-G netowrk. When you make the choice to buy a linksys wifi-G acces point, you are obligated to buy linksys for everything wireless. DO NOT MIX AND MATCH VERNDORS!!! it will slow your netowrk down to a crawl, even slower than wifi-B.

Summary: fast and easy
Review: I set up the WRT54G with an ethernet cable to a cable modem (roadrunner broadband service) and a desktop running windows xp in the basement of a 4 story brownstone. Installed a WPC54G notebook card in a laptop running windows 98. Can connect with the laptop anywhere in the house. Installation was fairly painless. I did need to make a quick call to linksys technical support (15 minutes) for the laptop (win 98 issue). The end result is fast, easy, wireless broadband.

Summary: Wonderful, fast, easy to setup and very secure
Review: The 54g router is a great centerpiece to any home network. It is very easy to setup (at least in WinXP) and quite easy to make secure. The 128bit WEP is good, but adding MAC address filtering is a real plus for securing your network and, with the 54g, it is a very easy thing to do. Simply enter the MAC addresses for all the devices on your network into the 54g setup screen and you're done. I will say that the speed provided by the 54g is not really needed for a cable or DSL connection, but if you transfer files between computers, send video or audio streams, or plan on doing such, then the 54g is a great device. Most of my computers had 802.11b cards, and some still do (the 54g communicates fine with them). But two of my computers have 802.11g cards now, and sending files between them is a breeze. Even video can be streamed at a very high resolution without drops. Finally, I will say that all of the Linksys products I have tried are easy to use. Now I am waiting for an 802.11g wireless bridge.

Summary: Good but may not be what you want
Review: This is a router it wants to be connected directly to the internet connection if you plan on using this to serve up multiple devices and want to use I.C.S. for N.A.T. buy yourself a "Linksys WAP54G Wireless 54g Access Point" it will work out better.

Summary: Good product
Review: This is a good product, but the Linksys 54g desktop card is not. I'd recommend this is you want to wireless network your laptop, but if you want to wirelessly network a couple desktops together you might want to wait until Linksys improves their desktop software/hardware.

Summary: Very easy to install
Review: I ordered in a month ago when I hooked up to the internet via a cable modem. It was very easy to set up. Since I am not network savvy it did take me awhile to connect my laptop, but within an hour I was able to connect. I am only giving it four stars since I am waiting for them to fix all the compatibility issues with 802.11b and 802.11g.

I have optonline cable modem broadband service. I went to the linksys site and they have an article on how to configure the device for optimum online. I think they have a great webstite, but flimsy help is included with the router. If you have trouble installing, go to the website and search the knowledge base.

Summary: Works ok but lacks UPnP, signal quality
Review: This product lacks UPnP feature at this time. Signal quality in second bedroom is very poor.

Summary: Excellent Product
Review: First let me start by setting the record straight. Another reviewer mentioned that if you use this router with both B and G products, that all products revert to B speed. NOT TRUE. I have a B card in my Pocket PC and a G card in my laptop, the laptop works at G speeds while the Pocket PC works at B speeds. No problems there. This router was easy to set up. Just follow the wizard and then go back and make sure you have your security up and running. Use the MAC addrsss filtering, use the WEP and disable SSID broadcasting. That should be more than enough security for home use. In no time at all I was sharing files, printers and broadband access. I have a desktop and PS2 wired in and a laptop and pocket PC with cards. For the money you can't go wrong. I ordered from Amazon and had it in four days.

Summary: Easy Setup, so-so uptime, inconsistant connection
Review: Bought this router along with two PCMCIA cards for laptops and one PCI adapter for a desktop.

Setup couldn't have been simpler. Plug the cards in, and run the software.

My only complaints are that first, I have no 2.4GHz phones in the house, and without running the microwave I still experience loss of signal. I can't figure out why so I'm going to have to keep moving the router around the house until I can find a better place for it.

Second, I use my laptop on the desk next to my desktop and at times I'll loose connection on my desktop but my laptop will still have a solid 60%+ signal.

Overall weighing the (roughly) 15% downtime vs. living in a 3 story house where running CAT5 is not an option, I am satisfied enough that I will not be returning this networking setup.

Summary: Not backwards compatible
Review: I bought this item and had to return it. It is not worth buying a non-standard device. I already have a wireless set up running through my house using the Linksys BEFW11S4, and it worked just fine.

I decided to try out the new Linksys WRT54G. Without the standard being set for the "g", 3 of the 4 wireless "b" cards that I have did not work with this unit. My linksys wireless bridge (which connects my XBOX to the internet) did not work either. I also bought a linksys "g" card that worked, but that set me back another $100.

I suggest if you already have a wireless network set up, stick with it. Or if you are wired, stay wired until summer, when the IEEE and FCC settles on the standards of "g". Prices will surely go down when it does get standardized, and products should hopefully work better. But for now, I will stick to what works and wait for the "g" to get better.
